    Hint for drinking soda..

Wasted calories? Most diet sodas have very few...even 0 calories. I consume more than that in flavored waters. I was told no carbonation, but silly me tried a couple of days ago. Never again! It hurt too much.

Should you only eat when you get hungry?

I had the same problem...never hungry (which I still don't see as a problem) and then the acid reflux. I was too tight. I went today, and they took .4 cc out of my band. I feel so much better. I wish I had done it sooner. I was miserable for a month.
  4. Everyone is different. I felt very little restriction after my first fill with 5 ccs in a 10 cc band. I feel too much restriction at times now that I've had a second fill with 7 ccs total. I'll probably have them remove a tiny bit this month. Good luck.

    Did you tell people???

I told all of my family, friends, and coworkers. I don't make it a secret at all. I eat lunch with several coworkers though and felt the need to tell them. They do get a kick out of my lunches. Some of them have told me they didn't know you could buy bowls as small as I use. Everyone has been very supportive to my face. However....they sometimes drive me crazy because every time they see me they ask how much I've lost.
  6. Mine's in the middle...couple of inches below my bra line. Never really bothers me.
  7. I have 7 ccs in a 10 cc band. I think I'm going to have a slight unfill next month. I think I would like to be a bit looser and not have to be soooo careful all the time. Bread and eggs (which I forgot to mention before) were the only things I had problems with before this fill.
  8. Since my last fill 2 weeks ago, I can't eat these: bread, nuts, peanut butter, dry meats, breaded chicken and fish are hit and miss, grapes, cantaloupe if it's firm at all, cheese that isn't melted can be a problem. I'm sure I'll find lots of other things that are too much trouble to even try to eat, but there are still plenty of things I can eat. It's a shame that ice cream still goes down with no trouble at all. I just stay away from it.

    Public Service Message

This is so funny. I have to admit that I was waiting for the haters or the ones who seem to be experts on everything to reply. I don't post often for fear of being enlightened by those very people.

    Nervous-1st fill tomorrow

My port is up high too. It was nothing, but I did get a numbing shot...just a little sting and burning, then nothing. It was kind of freaky sitting up with a needle sticking out of me while I was drinking the water. I felt just a little pain when the shot wore off...very little pain. It was strange the way it worked with me though. I felt the restriction at first for just a few days, then I didn't feel any restriction for about a week, and then WHAM...good restriction. The only negative thing has been having to crush my meds...yuck! Don't be nervous, be excited. And good luck!!!
  11. I'm losing faster now that I'm eating more. Sounds crazy I know, but last time I went to the doc they told me to eat between 1000 and 1400 cal a day. It's working.
  12. I'm so glad you posted this. I'm the same way. I've been relying on willpower too. I'll be so glad when I finally get real restriction.
  13. Just 10 days post-op and I'm messing up by overeating. I have to stop this. I was put on mushy foods on the third day after surgery, and I was allowed to introduce more solid foods into my diet during the first week. From what I've read on here, that's not very common, but that's what my book I got from the doctor told me to do. I followed the pre-op diet to the letter. I had no trouble at all following those strict guidelines for two weeks--even when it was all liquids the entire week before surgery. The problem came about 3 days ago. The swelling is apparently gone, and I have absolutely no restriction. On top of that, it's time for my period and I'm starving! I don't get my first fill for another 3 weeks. I have stupidly been eating a lot more than 1/2 cup at a time--a lot more! It's not a lot of calories, but too much food. I'm blowing it already! Have I stretched my stomach out already, or is it okay because there is no restriction yet? I'm really worried. I swore I wouldn't be one of those people who went through all this and failed, but this is not looking good. I wonder what kind of damage I've done by eating so much food so soon after surgery. I've cried and prayed and asked myself why I'm doing this. I've got to get a handle on this. I thought maybe it would help just to write it down. I will do better from now on! Should I go back on all liquids? Will that even do any good at this point? Thanks in advance for any advice or encouragement. Tammy
  14. I had the same problem. I was banded on 3/24. There were 2 or 3 days last week when I ate more than 1/2 cup at a time, but then it passed. 1/2 cup is satisfying me again. I wished that I had just hung in there, but I gave in and ate more than I was supposed to those days. Maybe you'll start feeling satisfied again in a couple of days. Good luck to you! We can do this!

    What is wrong with me?

Nice to meet you guys. I had 2 or 3 scary days before I started this thread, but I'm doing much better now. I wish the doc would give me a fill on Thursday, but he said it would be a month after surgery before a fill. I'm not craving anything, which I find surprising--especially at this time of the month. I just can't believe that I'm eating this little and feeling satisfied. I wish I had done this years ago. I'm so anxious to get this weight off and have a life! Good luck to you guys!

    What is wrong with me?

I'm pretty sure he is in the same office. One of his patients was right next to me right before surgery. I probably won't go to the meetings since I live so far away. It takes me an hour and a half to get to Nashville from Cookeville. I have a friend at church who has lost over 130 lbs in 15 months with the lap band. She's my support. I'm also thinking of going to WW just to face the scale weekly.

    What is wrong with me?

Thank you all so much! I feel better today. I've done better today. I just have to keep my focus. I am going to start a journal and keep track of my emotions, and I'm also going to see a counselor next week. I am not going to blow this! And by the way, I weighed on my scales today and had lost. Whew! Now, I just hope I haven't messed something up in there. No more screwing up allowed....well, at least not as much. I can't expect to be perfect, but I will be better! Megster27, I was banded at Baptist by Dr. Spaw. How about you?
  18. I was banded on Tuesday, March 24. I don't remember much at all. I remember putting on the gown and having the IV put in my hand. They put the stockings on my legs. I had to take some meds with a baby cup of water. Then the doctor and nurses came to talk to me. I got hugs and kisses from my mom and best friend just before I was rolled into the OR. I remember seeing the people in there, but then I was out. Next thing I know, I was waking up in recovery with an oxygen mask on, and the nurse was telling me to calm down and take deep breaths. I'm claustrophobic, so I had her take the oxygen mask off and she put the thing in my nose. I was a bit nauseated so she gave me something in the IV for that. They rolled me down to x-ray for the UGI and everything was fine. They then rolled me into a room where my mom and friend were allowed to come in. The nurse walked me to the restroom. After that she took out my IV. I put on my clothes and went home. No problems at all! I checked into the hospital at 5:30 a.m. They rolled me back to the OR a little after 7:30. I was out of surgery in less than an hour...even with a hernia repair, and we were home before 1 pm...and I live 1 1/2 hours from the hospital. I have been a bit sore, but the pain medication has been great! I sleep a lot...hope that's normal, but I am able to get up and move around quite a bit. I am so excited about being banded! I know this is going to work for me. I am very glad that I made this decision.
  19. Thank you all for your support! I know it will be worth it.
  20. Hello, my name is Tammy, and my surgery date is March 24. I have several friends who have gone through this, but I'm still scared. I have never had surgery of any kind. I've never even been in the hospital except for x-rays and other tests. I tried so many other methods of losing weight, and they worked for a little while, then nothing. I made the decision to have lap-band surgery after much research and soul searching. I'm ready to begin this journey. I know it won't be easy, but I'm dedicated to doing this the right way. I even made an appt with a counselor to work on other issues, and I've never been to a therapist except for the psychological evaluation for surgery. I would appreciate any advice, words of encouragement, and prayers anyone can give me. Thanks!
