Perfectly normal...I could have eaten my youngest at your stage. It's all up to you and willpower until you get enough fills...then the band will be there to help you. Keep the faith and don't get too discouraged (and get in as much protein as you can to curb the hunger)...have some patience and the restriction you felt immediately post-op will be back. I accidentally skipped lunch today and didn't even realize it until hours later...amazing!!!! I've been on EVERY diet out there and have lost thousands of pounds...I was STARVING the whole time. I love my band and you will too. Best wishes! -BG slim fast...

Head hunger sucks...and the sooner you can figure out that that's what it is and what triggered it the better you'll do at this...so you're going to do great! Best wishes! -BG
  3. Take a look at voiceomt2002 blog. She posted lots of great recipes. I made the soups (broth and creamed soups) and other mushie recipes as well...they saved me. I didn't have a specific pre-op diet to follow, but like Connie said, you won't be hungry post-op for weeks, so there's something to look forward to! You wouldn't be normal if you weren't nervous about the banding. Keep posting and you'll do great! Best wishes! -BG PS- If you're allowed SF popsicles GET THEM!!! They even come in great tropical flavors now. They helped me with getting in that 'crunchy' something solid craving.

  7. 188 for me! Whoot! 4th fill is like magic, so far! Going to cut another head off my ticker! JT- saw the clip...rock star! Congrats on the medical milestones as well...reminded me I need to make a PCP appt. (hope I can get rid of the BP meds some day). Angie- Below 250 is a landmark moment...Awesome!!
  8. CONGRATULATIONS! Wow, 80 lbs. pre-band is awesome WL! You should be proud! Sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk! Get in as much liquid as you can and rest up! Best wishes! -BG
  9. Great attitude! Some of that you'll have to deal with as head hunger issues come up even when you're not hungry, but it does get easier! Best wishes! -BG
  10. Stick with it and good luck! -BG
  11. CONGRATULATIONS! Sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk! Try a heating pad for the 'referred' gas pain (left shoulder). Some say the Gas X strips help...might be a placebo, but I tried them. Get in as much liquid as you can and rest up! Best wishes! -BG

Hang in there...ALL of you! Keep getting those fills and it WILL get better! Sarah- I add soy protein powder (and a little extra water) to my oatmeal every morning...changes the consistency a little, but I can tolerate it in the oatmeal. I don't need even a 1/2 serving now!
  13. kcweir- "tiny" I love you. LOL 18 isn't tiny, but thanks! Kathy & pjrugby- I know, my head isn't there either.

Stop now. It will take your body at least six weeks to heal and especially the internal stitches that hold you band to your stomach are very vunerable during this time. Just because you CAN eat it, doesn't mean you SHOULD. You could cause a serious complication like band slippage. These are the six weeks in this whole lifestyle change that you need to be the most careful. I'm not saying I didn't cheat...but my cheat was moving to protein shakes just before my 4 weeks of clear liquids ended. Best wishes and congrats on your banding! -BG

Paula- I'm sure there must be a doc somewhere in NZ and you need ask your questions and go over what is happening with a doctor. None of this is 'normal' long-term like you are and some of it can cause some serious medical problems. A Psych and NUT could also help you with your diet and in dealing with the issues that make you overeat. I urge you to work at finding a new doctor. Best wishes! -BG

  20. Dana- CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm SO glad you weren't turned away! This W/H ratio requirement is crazy. I'm now in the "Overweight" BMI category at 191 lbs. and if you looked at me you would say I'm a 'pear'. My W/H ratio came out at .88 'increased risk'. I found that there is at least one hospital in our area that turns down patients at increased risk (but I'm sure they don't use this criteria) as the one I went to takes on all the risky patients. You're right, it's just a matter of keeping their numbers 'good' and I'm sure the increased risk patients have an average higher cost for complications or extra aftercare. This is crazy! Again, so glad the surgery happened for you! And it WILL get better...sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. It's all worth it. Best wishes! -BG

Cool story...fate steps in again! Having a mentor will be a great help to you! Best wishes! -BG
  23. Sweetie, I only lost ten during the same challenge! Give yourself some credit...you're doing great! We have to remember, this isn't RNY (well, at least for the majority here) so the weight probably won't fall off super fast. One day at a time...we'll all get there!
