  1. I went for a fill on September 22nd....took me to 7 cc's in a 10 cc band. Seemed to work well....lost 5 lbs immediately and then stopped losing. Started gaining after that. Off and on, I have gotten stuck, and recently I get stuck and vomit quite a bit...usually after about 3 bites of meat. Why am I getting so stuck now - it's been 7 weeks since this fill? I had to pay for this fill and I hate to have to pay to get an unfill and then need another one later? Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice? Thanks, Mary
  2. Definitely check with the pharmacist about crushing the meds. Also, at first you won't be able to get your 60 grams of Protein in....it is a goal that you are working towards. After about the first week, it should be a lot easier, although sometimes it is still hard to get it in then because you feel so full for those first few weeks. As for the gas pain, they advised me to Walk, Walk, and Walk again...the more you walk, the less gas that you will have. Good luck on your journey!! Mary
  3. I am 3 1/2 months out since surgery, and my hair is really falling out. I've seen the posts about Biotin supplements. Where can I find these? Do they seem to help? The good thing is my hair was really thick, but it is quickly becoming what most people would consider 'normal'....I just don't want it to go any further. Thanks! Mary
  4. I know what you are talking about. There was a post about this about 2 weeks ago. I will see if I can find it for you. Have a great day! Mary
  5. I am 8 weeks post-op and starting to experience a little of this. I know that it is from not getting enough protein. Start drinking at least 1 shake a day to increase your protein. Women should get at least 60 grams of protein and men should get at least 70 grams of protein per day. This is what we were taught in our classes. Hope this helps! Have a great day!:mad2:
  6. I was given my surgery date about 2 months before surgery. My approval did not come through until about 5 days before surgery. I spoke with the doctor's office and then with the insurance company (BCBS) and they said that approvals are not given until a few days before surgery. Just don't sign anything committing yourself to do 'self-pay' if it is not approved. Make sure the approval has been received!! Good luck! Mary
  7. I am going for my first fill tonight after work. I am REALLY nervous. I know that my doctor requires liquids for 24-48 hours after the fill. Is this Clear Liquids or full liquids (soups, etc)? Thanks in advance for your help! ~Mary
  8. Thank you so much for posting this. I needed to hear it today! My first fill is scheduled for Monday, February 2nd. I have read a lot on the boards and was really scared. Your post makes me look forward to it. My weight loss has started to slow, and I can't wait to feel some restriction. Thanks again! Good luck on your journey! ~Mary
  9. Congratulations! That is so awesome! I am so happy that the band is working for you. Keep up the great work!!!! ~Mary :yikes:
  10. During my surgery, they found a hiatal hernia which he repaired. I also have high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease and acid reflux. Immediately after coming home from surgery, I was told to take my blood sugar 2x per day and if it was below a certain number, I would not have to take diabetes meds (2 pills per day). I have not had to take 1 diabetes pill since my surgery on 12/23/08....and also no acid reflux meds (the repair of the hernia took care of that). I went to my family doctor on Monday and she took me off another med. At the beginning of February, I am having blood work done to determine if my other meds need to be adjusted. You should definitely call about your bp....when mine was low, I was dizzy...and starting to black out. Take care of yourself and good luck on your journey! :sneaky:
  11. WALK, WALK, WALK, WALK........the more you walk, the less gas pain you will have. We were instructed to do this in our Life Skills Classes before surgery. It really helped me! ~Mary
  12. Hello All, I was banded on 12/23/08 and am doing great. At my 10-day post op appointment (on 01/02), I had lost 12.8 lbs. THAT is why we keep going! Keep your eyes on the scale as it moves down! I was moved to pureed stage and am doing pretty well with that too. You are definitely fuller for longer periods of time!
  13. Thanks Kymmie....I can't imagine that he would ask why, but stranger things have happend! I am doing it during our Christmas break, but am still nervous about telling him. I mainly am telling him so that he'll know I may be a little weak still when I return to work. Thanks! Mary
  14. I am planning to talk with my boss this week about my surgery. How did all of you handle this situation? Did you say that you were having surgery? Or did you go into details? I really would rather not say to him why I am having surgery, as I know that he will probably not be very supportive. Just wondered how your experiences went. Thanks! Mary:redface:
  15. Lapbandtalker.....how much weight did you have to lose? How long did it take for you to reach goal? Sounds like you did great!! My surgery is scheduled for 12/23 and I am so excited. I've been wondering about how long you continue to go for fills. Thanks for sharing!
  16. Happy Birthday and congratulations to you both! It's an amazing feeling being in 'onederland'! I am being banded on 12/23 and I am so excited. All of the hoops we've had to jump through will be well worth the journey to health. We were told in our Life Skills Class that we deserve the credit as we lose weight using this tool....for it truly is a tool... Enjoy the blessings of today!
  17. Megs, Keep in mind that every scale is different....you may one thing at the doctor's office and immediately step on a different scale and weigh something entirely different! I'm sure that I'll be scale hopping too.....you just need to KNOW! LOL. But only count the one at the doctor's office. I plan to weigh myself the morning of my surgery on my home scale and that way when I check it will be the same scale. Good luck! You are doing great! Mary
  18. Lyndz, I was trying for that date too, but now am being banded 2 days before Christmas. We can do it.....and it will totally be worth it!! At least you can get through the holidays. I only have to do a 2 day liquid diet, so it won't be too bad. Some others have to do a few weeks of liquid. Just keep in mind how great we are going to look and feel next year....and healthy we will be!!!
  19. I know what you mean. My daughter wanted me to wait until after the holidays. It worked out that my surgeon is on vacation the week after Christmas (which was the week that I wanted to have it done). My surgery will now be on the 23rd of December. This works well for me because our workplace is closed for Christmas for 2 weeks beginning on December 22nd. So, I will only miss 2 'real' work days at the beginning of January. After taking to my daughter about this, she completely understands. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so she is happy that we will have that and we are going to celebrate Christmas (gifts and meal) on December 20th. Give your daughter time. She will adjust. =) What is your surgery date?
  20. Which stage are you in - liquid, pureed, soft foods, or solids? I have just completed the pre-requisite classes and we were told we could count it as Protein and also liquids. Hope this helps! Mary:smile2:

  23. Cali, Welcome and congrats on your surgery date! We will be banded the same week! I just finished my Life Skills classes. Passed with flying colors! I have my clearance from the pulmonologist and have had my initial consultation with the cardiologist. I have a stress test scheduled for Monday and an echocardiogram on Tuesday. The joys! At least we'll know everything about our health, though, right? You will find this website very helpful. So many people pointed me to it and I am very grateful. Have a great day and good luck on your journey! Mary:regular_smile:
  24. Hello! I am going through all of the pre-op and clearances. My surgery date has been set for December 23rd (which is also my wedding anniversary!). I am excited and a little nervous. We have decided to Celebrate Christmas on December 20th so that I (hopefully) won't feel that I missed out on the holidays. My family is very supportive of this which surely helps a lot!! ~Mary:blushing:
