LiamAM83 got a reaction from Bessieboop1981 in Mental health and intrusive food thoughts
I've been there. It's normal. Your brain is used to getting a certain amount of calories on a regular basis. 6 weeks isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, especially with your new metabolism and smaller stomach it will take some time to get used to a new way of feeding yourself.

When I first started my journey I was so depressed. I didn't want to live any more and wanted to just end it all. I kept praying for a sign that this was what God had planned for me. One day, in the middle of a particularly hard bout of depression I looked up and saw a rainbow. A single, small one on top of the clouds. It was beautiful and filled with hope. Then as if to confirm my thoughts God sent 4 other rainbows (one after another) over the next hour or so.

I've never been one for "signs" but this was a definite one from Him. I can't explain it, but when I saw that first rainbow I instantly felt better and more hopeful. My life is so much better now than those sad days before my journey started. So, hang in there! There's light at the end of the tunnel.

LiamAM83 got a reaction from Arabesque in Anyone else change their style a lot since WLS?
I do change my style quite often, but it's mostly in the accessories department. Clothes are usually very basic and simple so I don't get bored easily. Hair is also pretty boring - just a few highlights here and there. My hair has been dyed only once after WLS - it was black and I regretted that decision immediately (it took me ages to grow it out).

I'm 30 now, so my style is somewhat more refined than when I was younger, but I still try new things sometimes :) I love the way my hair looks with bangs, but they are a pain to take care of and maintain. So, for now, there will be no bangs. But who knows what's coming in the future?

Overall, I'd say WLS was a huge catalyst in my life and changed me from the inside out. My style is now more "me" than ever before!…

LiamAM83 got a reaction from Arabesque in Blood Pressure Issues
Hey there! After my bypass surgery in February, I experienced something similar. My BP initially corrected itself and even went a bit low, but then started climbing again unexpectedly.
I'd recommend staying in close communication with your doctor and monitoring your BP regularly. In my case, I restarted my pre-surgery medications to prevent any potential stroke risk. At 45, it's crucial to be proactive about these health changes.
Keep tracking your blood pressure, follow your doctor's recommendations, and don't get discouraged by temporary setbacks. These things can take time to stabilize, but consistent monitoring and a positive attitude make a big difference.

It took me less than an hour after booking an appointment. And then I received my package in 4 days.

I actually pay for my own now because my company changed insurance, and Ozempic wasn’t covered even though I have t2. So I get mine from slimvive and I pay $599 for 0.5mg. 0.25mg is $499 last I checked. Their Ozempic is legitimate and not like the compounds from Noom and Hims/Hers which aren’t reviewed by the FDA. It’s the cheapest real Ozempic I could find, which they give you as part of their fitness and health program.

Takes a while to get used to. I experienced lots of nausea at first, but since I only take it weekly it wasn’t too bad and I figured as long as I don’t overeat while I’m on it, the nausea is a lot more manageable. I have lost 80 pounds and my A1C has been between 5.8 to 6.3 over the last few tests.

I have PCOS too but my period is now regular.

Thank you! I’ve already started trying to add in short walks and being more mindful of snacking at night. It’s a process, but hearing from others who’ve been through it makes it feel more manageable. I haven’t found a surgeon yet, but I’m starting to look into options.

Making the decision to improve your health and reclaim your life is huge so congratulations. And yes starting now can start to get you into the right frame of mind and help you start establishing better habits and new routines. You don’t have to jump in with everything. Small changes are often easier to adopt and adapt to. Here are some ideas you could start with. Just pick a couple which you think you could begin to introduce.
Finding time to be more active when you work full time, for long hours and sit all day. But you can carve out short blocks of time throughout the day. The little bits of 5 mins here 10 there add up so don’t think you have to find a solid 30 - 60 mins a day to improve your health. Go for a walk at lunch time even 10 mins is better than nothing. If you take public transport get off at the stop before your office or home. Take stairs not the lift. Walk up escalators. Park further away from where you’re going. A lot of us start off with these small changes and then build and incorporate more activity as they go on. I still do short boosts of activity (stretches and bands) and incorporate these other behavioural changes in my usual chores I do day to day.
May be start reducing or dropping those late night snacks. Up your fluid intake. Reduce portion sizes. Up your protein intake. Avoid following any fad or social media trending diet tips, diets or food fear mongering. They usually don’t work, are never sustainable & not based in any truth.
Have you found a surgeon yet?

    Welcome and hello!
My journey started with calling the different weight loss centers in my area and seeing if they take my insurance. I researched the doctors, procedures, and programs. The introduction to the programs were all online. The glp-1 medications were not available then, so there’s more information now. My weight loss took off when I started meeting with the dietitian. She recommended the book “Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies” and this site here was recommended in it. So, ask away, lurk, learn. Most of us are healthier and grateful for surgery and all the newer methods. I wish I had done it sooner!

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 3 years ago, and after struggling with both my weight and blood sugar control, I made the decision to have gastric bypass surgery in March 2024. It's been quite a journey so far.
It's been about 15 months since surgery, and honestly, it's been both harder and more rewarding than I expected. Some days I feel amazing with more energy than I've had in years, and other days I'm frustrated with how little I can eat or dealing with dumping syndrome. My diabetes numbers are slowly improving, but it's been a balancing act figuring out how to eat enough protein in tiny portions while not spiking my blood sugar. The good news is I'm off my blood pressure meds completely now!
