Starting over, 5 years after surgery

I could have written your post! I had my band done in 2009. I got discouraged early because I was not losing weight and I stopped going to the MD. I decided to give it another go and as of yesterday I had my 8th adjustment since April of 2012. I cannot find the sweet spot either. I am either too loose and can eat anything or too tight and choking on my gastric acid at night (I even aspirated and had pneumonia last year from being too tight). I have lost 12 lbs. since going back last April. That is not a success story in my book. I have lost about 35 lbs. overall but that was not from the band, that was from eating low carb the year before last. I feel like such a failure to have gone to the extreme of having weight loss surgery and STILL not be able to lose. I don't know what the answer is, but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone.
  2. Hi. I went in for my 1st fill May 28. I was told that 75% of folks are in pretty quickly for a 2nd fill. I got my 2nd one yesterday, which was less than 2 wks. later. Hoping this will be better. Hope this helps.
  3. Geez. I don't know what to tell you. Everyone seems to have such different experiences. I'd be pissed though......if my tubing wasn't even primed yet!! Try and talk to him about it. Try not to let him intimidate you.....they are working FOR YOU. $200 a pop is a lotta $$$. I wonder if the "tube priming" is addressed on the lap band web site. And I wonder, also, if they shorten the tubing at all during surgery due to one's unique anatomy. I don't know but I think I'm gonna ask at my next appt.
  4. I was told that 3cc was put in mine in surgery to prime it.....just to fill the tubing and none in the actual band. I have a lap band and I think it's 10cc but that needs to be verified. So when I went for my first actual fill they put in 1.8 and my second was 0.8. They said I have a total of 5.6 but I wouldn't think I would "count" that 3cc if it was just for priming the tubing.
  5. I was banded on April 27, too!!! Just when I was signing on....I got a rush of excitement that I haven't felt in so long. I FINALLY feel hopeful about losing weight. It feels really good to have hope!! Best of luck!
  6. That is incredible! I hope I do that well. Congratulations!

I will be April 27th. Thanks!!
  8. Does anyone know if they will do it for a BMI of 35? I will be a self pay. I'm in Richmond. Thank you.
  9. Good luck. Let us know how you're doing when you're feeling up to it.

    Lazy and weightloss

Here's something for your reading pleasure. Just FYI. Sleep deprivation and obesity are indeed related. There has been quite a bit of reasearch on it. Google Leptin and Ghrelin. Here's an article that touches on it and there's a book on Amazon that looks very interesting but I have not read it. Sleep More to Fight Obesity
  11. You could always use the "female" surgery little white lie, as well. If you're female, that is. That's what I might say when I have it done.

    Banded yesterday!

Congrats on your surgery! I have a question for you. What insurance DID you have and what insurance did you switch to, just out of curiosity. I'm in VA also. Good luck to you!
  13. Are most of you just happy to get to a healthy BMI or do you have an ultimate fantasy goal? I think I would be happy to get to a 25 BMI but I will be honest.....I would REALLY love to be back to my pre-fat days weight. Is that realistic? Have many of you reached that ultimate goal? Thanks for any insight.
  14. That's so wonderful. Congratulations!!! Keep everyone posted on your surgery and your progress. You sound ecstatic. That's so great.

    Always starving!

Cris, Please know that I have not yet been banded but I have read a lot here and I attended the seminar 2 days ago. The surgeon giving the seminar said the avg. number of fills is 5 in the 1st year. You're 5 mon. out and have had only 2. Could you simply need another fill? Hopefully, it is as simple as that!
  17. LOL, Kiz. Thanks to both of you for your replies. My BP has been up in the past but w/ regular exercise it came down. I wonder if high cholesterol would count. I have not had it checked in several years but I know it's gotta be high. Well, all I can do is go and check it out. Kiz, if I may ask, who did your surgery and how has everything gone? I have heard that Schroder is very good. Thanks, again.
