  1. CALL THE DOC!! There could easily be something wrong, and if not he may be able to order something that will help.
  2. I simply stated that my doc had me on a restictive diet. As I have several medical issues it was easily accepted. Once I was pass liquids it was a little harder because mushies don't work well in pool halls. I was known for my nightly order of "hot" wings and sweet tea. Now I eat at home and can just say that I already had dinner. I spend the night sipping on water and if I can get a red or dark cup I can add some Crystal Lite. Just go with the new diet, or I'm working on new eating habits and "friends" won't push.
  3. hopeful, It is understandable to be worried, I was; and I have had a few more surgeries than I wanted. From what I have been told by my doc is that the higher you BMI the more likely you will have a fatty liver. My liver shrink diet was 2 weeks and not really to bad, I have an off center lifestyle that has me in a bar 5 nights a week, menu chocie is limited. Since I could have veggies and lean meat, I would get a garden salad with chicken and be very careful of the amount that I ate. I was happy to "drink" dinner but not every place would let me bring in outside food or drink. My doc said my liver looked good, I had lost about 15lbs. in the two weeks. I did fine in recovery, as soon as my eyes opened they were there with ice chips and talking to me. When got to my room, I was able to get in the chair without aid within 30 minutes, and continued the ice chips until they ran the GI test which went fine. I had juice when I went back to the room, for dinner I was on full liquids. My doc put in place a medication delivery system called On-Q, this was in until my second day home. I slept on my side the first night, went home and didn't get the script filled for pain. I went out that night and every night without problems. I didn't need any other pain meds. The gas kicked in the second night but walking eased it and it stayed with me about a week and a half. I have had no problems from the surgery and I know it's only been just shy of a month but all has been good. I had an issue with a hardboiled egg, but I learned to slow down when eating real quick. You will do just great and try not to worry to much. I am down from a 22 to a 16 jean :welldoneclap:
  4. My diet called for 97% fat free deli meat. I think I did have some chicken from Georgie Boy and I was fine.
  5. Could it be allergy? I had one last week that almost took me out and allergy med was the only thing that helped.
  6. Get VERY clear instructions on the post op diet How long to do clear liquids How long on full liquids, what liquids are those (I couldn't have milk based soups like cream of _______) What can you have for mushy stage Do foods in this stage need to be pureed
  7. I stayed within the rules as best I could, but I had to listen to my body. I don't yet have restriction, and I eat slowly, but I started mushies about 5 days post op. I have been doing the solids now in very small amounts and I chew for days. My portions are small, and I only have one of those a day with the shakes covering the rest. I am out untill after midnight almost daily, so I can't start and end my day like others. You know you, go with that. The first fill is on the 13th, I'm sure my life will change.
  8. It was about 3 weeks for me, all the stuff they pump in must come out and then the swelling goes down. I will be 4 weeks Mon and not sure it's all gone yet. My tummy is a little lopsided. However, I can button a 14 jean---down from a 22 in Feb.
  9. Hey all, Got the band on 3/9, came home feeling great. No pain, sleeping well. Now----I am cold, I had a headache last week that almost took me out. It started during the night and continued to build until I was ready to kill for relief(might have been allergy). Today I woke up as tired as I was when I feel asleep on the sofa last night. My blood pressure is lower that usual, I am normally high and on meds. Guess these might need to be adjusted but my PCP won't do that until further testing in a couple of weeks. I have lost about 32 lbs. since the first of the year, about 10 in the last 3 weeks. Getting in the Protein , Water and Vitamins, not hungry but frequently want to "chew". I have the need for texture, I want to feel things in my mouth so I know that I have eaten.(strange) I don't want things like potatoes near my mouth, normally I love these. Made fish for lunch and couldn't even try to eat it. I will not be able to live on Chicken!! However, chicken is the only thing I am able to eat and enjoy. Hard boiled eggs are ok but I almost hurl if I think of scrambled. I'm good with yogurt, shakes and smoothies but my info is that we need to get something other than liquids. Help me people!
  10. Big old group hug to you hon. I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. No matter how old we get, we want Mom in the tough times. Vent here when you need, you can PI me whenever, for whatever. Take a deep breath and slow down. Try to rest as much as you can, probably not sleeping well; and a little run down. Follow your doc's instructions and take one day at a time. God is with you, so is your Mom have faith in yourself and your decisions.
  11. Had early Mon. morning surgery, was walking in 30 mins. of getting to room. Had clear broth for lunch, passed GI first try, shake for dinner. Slept on my side that night no problems. Sent home Tues. with an On-Q med delivery system (no pillow), it came out on Wed. night , no other pain med. Went out to pool hall that night and everyone since. Gas landed on Tues night and woke me, walk-gasx-WALK. It was bad, the noise was worse, still got some 3 weeks post op. I didn't nap, have been sleeping well. There is some fluid & gas build up with swelling for about 2 weeks. I was back in gym (treadmill) 2nd week because of an ankle problem, felt good enough to go earlier. Don't worry, just do what the doc says before and after.
  12. FEAR YOURSELF FIRST !!!!!!! I tapped myself at exactly 1 week, 2X in less than an hour. Two nights later rolled over onto bunched up blanket during the night and also most kicked husband out of bed. As my tummy swelling went down, my low profile port is setting out like a push button. Now as I lean over the sink or such I get a reminder.
  13. Hi maxwea, Everything I have tried has worked, I just can't stick with it for very long. I feel that this takes it out of my hands to a degree. Many of us are like that here, so you now have a place to vent, share and learn. I am a little ahead of you, but still new. Hang with us on the journey and we will all be fine.
  14. How in the world did you get that much protein in with just liquids? I would love to know cause I am struggling to get my 60g. Share some of your high protein items, I was on a hgih protein pre-op of slim fast and there is only about 13g in each of those.
  15. I used High Protein Slim-Fast Powder with skim milk. I could also use the No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast. I can't do anything with that now, the taste is off to me since surgery.
  16. It is a plastic device that you use to expand your lungs because when you are sore, you tend to not breath deeply. This helps to keep infection from the lungs. I have had several surgeries and have had to use one each time. We were given one at our nutrition class about 2 weeks before surgery to help start strenghting the lungs and I am to continue use for 2 weeks after.
  17. Hard boiled egg got me this morning! Who would have thought it. I muched on grilled chicken without problem, but that danged egg was on my left breast bone and I felt like I had been punched. I didn't get sick, but I thought, "Now I know why I got to chew!" Keep smiling
  18. Congrats. I got my band on 3/9 Mon, I was up and about quickly; I am 51. My gas showed up on Tues. night. I still have not been hungry. For a few days the stomach is swollen from the surgery, also they pump in gas and I think that causes some of it, and your full feeling. It took forever for me to get down a protein shake that Wed. I had full liquids for a week and found myself a little weak on Sat. Had same on Mon. after starting mushies. You may be like me and don't have any fluid in the band. My doc waits about 4 weeks before a fill to give stomach time to heal. He said I might even gain after starting solids. Get the fluids in and as much of your required protein as you can. Good Luck!
  19. I am 8 days out from an overnight stay The first thing I noticed was that I weighed more at discharge than I did at admitting! They pumped fluids in during the stay and I was about 6lbs more. It is slowly going down and I seem to have the same instructions as you.
  20. Don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat, so if the workout is new, and you are building muscle that could be the reason scale isn't moving. The up side is that I would put money down that you are 'SMALLER', check that tape measure!! GOOD JOB, I haven't gotten to the gym yet, bum ankle.
  21. High Protein Slim-Fast taste better to me than the CIB, I think also has more portein. I have GeniSoy protein powder that is natural but I don't like the way it mixes. I also add 1/3c of dry non fat milk. This with the shakes adds same as an additional cup of skim milk. Works well when you can have oatmeal. Good luck!
  22. High 5 to the beloved ! My pre-op was a high protein, low carb liver shrink. I got to have lean deli meat 2oz & a shake at dinner or a sandwich with 4oz of meat. It will pass, it is fo your health. Keep hanging, you will do fine.
  23. Congrats on the band. Your discomfort may be due to simple swelling from the surgery. Do check with the doc but mine said the band would be empty until my first fill at about 6 weeks. I had 1 round of clear liquids to see if I could keep it down. Then I was put on full liquids (Carnation Instant Breakfast, jell-o, juice water); really anything that could pass through a straw, for my overnight. Went home with that for a week, I did slid in some egg drop soup. Now on mushies. I had really thin oatmeal, blended beef soup and a protein shake today. My instructions are to sip, see how it goes down and how I feel, proceed slowly. Good Luck
  24. The sleep deal is real. Many have died from it, you stop breathing in your sleep. It can also cause you to not get rest at night and you fall asleep at the drop of a hat. My husband feel asleep while driving with me in the car. Got tested the next week. Doc. threatened to have hi DL revoked if he didn't.
  25. Follow your docs instructions. We are here to help each other, but the doc knows how he wants things to progress. We are for shared experiences, good luck.
