  1. Thanks everybody! It made me feel great. I'm just ready for the weight to keep coming off.
  2. all the sudden this morning when I weighed I'm down 5 more pounds! I couldn't believe it. That makes 25 lbs lost. I was banded on Aug. 14.
  3. I have BCBS of Texas. I had been to WW and Meditrim off and on for years. I lost but always gained it back. My records from WW and Meditrim were enough for my doctor to submit to insurance for approval. I turned in my paperwork, got approval, and had surgery within 3 weeks. It was great not having to wait.
  4. Ok thanks for all the replies. It never bother me to use a straw when I did. I have found that if I sit up really straight I can burp the air from my stomach so that makes me feel better.
  5. I know that drinking from a straw is a big 'no no', but I have caught myself a couple of times doing it before I realized. I felt nothing different than drinking just from a glass. Does anyone drink from a straw on a regular basis and does it bother you?
  6. I just finished eating a soft scrambled egg with melted cheese for breakfast. I think I was still thinking pre-band because I scrambled eggs for me and of course I couldn't eat but one. I am stuffed!! How can I get my mind to start thinking "make less food-it WILL fill me up"?
  7. Congratulations! I can't wait until I'm there.
  8. Hey Val!!! Who did your surgery? Dr. Hambric did mine. Today, I was able to start soft foods. YIPPEE! Then next Friday I can transition to regular food. I haven't had any problems so far at all. This morning I did accidentally swallow a piece of ice and it hurt, but at least it melted. LOL This past week I haven't lost any weight. I'm hanging around between 18-20 lbs. lost which is what I've been for about a week. That's kind of getting me down, but I'm trying not to let it bother me too much. I just thought I would have lost more weight. Nice to know someone else in Lufkin that has been banded.
  9. Good luck to all those that are about to be banded! I hope everything goes well for you. Today is Day 13 post-op. I have been doing great although I haven't lost that must weight since surgery. I've only lost about 5 lbs. since surgery and 19 altogether since the beginning of my liquid diet before surgery. But you know, I'm OK with that. I know that once I start on a more regular diet, I will probably start losing more. This Friday I get to start moving from pureed food to soft foods. Examples that are on my list are: boiled or scrambled eggs, soft cheeses (mozzerella or swiss), rice or soft cooked noodles, baked or soft cooked potatoes, soft overcooked vegetables, canned fruit in natural juices, banana, toasted bread, crackers. Does anyone have any other suggestions during this stage? What did you eat during the soft food stage?
  10. I live in Lufkin. Your not very far from me.
  11. How about some sugar and cinnamon for that cream of rice? lol Oh I forgot that we can have pudding and yogurt. I even bought some pudding the other day. duh! I think the lack of food lately is melting my brain. I'm going to try some of those things. Thanks and keep up the suggestions.
  12. sassy, I know it's easy for me to say, but try and hang in there. This stage is not permanent. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this with what seems like little support. I will keep you in my thoughts. This site has been awesome for advice and support. We are ALL here for you!
  13. I was also banded on Aug. 14. Today was my first day of thick liquids then next Friday I can start mushy foods. Do you think the food was too thick or chunky for you? Maybe you should eat some softer things for a few days. Good luck! and feel better soon!
  14. I am so sorry that you are feeling this way. I completely understand how you are feeling. When I was on my liquid diet, it was SO SO hard to see other people eat. I just had to get away from them and go do something else to keep my mind off of it. Believe me it will get better. Before long you will be able to eat some better stuff although right now it feels like that seems like a lifetime away. Maybe you could ask your family not to eat those things in front of you or at least not bring them in the house during this time. That would be a tremendous support. Today was my first day on thick liquids (day 7 post-op) and it felt so good to have some potato Soup instead of Jello and Protein Drinks. As I look back now the stage of the diet that you are on now wasn't as long as it seemed. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! Keep us posted.
  15. Vegasgirl, I busted out laughing when I read your post! I had baked potato soup from a restaurant. This evening my husband made some homemade baked potato soup. I'm thinking about making some veggie/beef soup and putting mine in the blender. What other things do you plan on eating this week for your thick liquids? I need ideas.
  16. Congrats on the surgery! Yesterday was one week since my surgery. I am mostly sore-free now. I started my thick liquids today. Good luck!
  17. Hello everyone! Today was my first THICK LIQUID day. I had my protein drink for breakfast. For lunch, I had potato soup. I mashed all the potatoes so I wouldn't have any chunks and added more liquid to thin it down some. IT WAS THE BEST EVER! lol (especially after thin liquids for 3 weeks) I ate lunch about 12:30. It is almost 8:00 now and I'm not hungry yet! although I have been drinking my water and tea. I feel really good. I think I did eat a tad bit too much soup for lunch because I was hurting just a little but it went away fast. I am just so excited that I finally don't feel hungry like I have been with the thin liquids and also because I'm not sore anymore. Good luck to everyone that is just starting!!
  18. Just take it easy. You will probably be worn out at the end of the day.
  19. Thank you ALL for the advice! It's good to hear that I'm not the only one that is having or had trouble with starving on the post-op clear liquid diet. I've got 1 more day then on to thick liquids. The first thing I want is some homemade potato Soup (not chunky of course). I can start eating yogurt, cream of wheat, etc.
  20. I don't know how much longer I can go on this liquid diet. I get SO hungry. I am drinking everything that I'm supposed to and I do get full, but then about 30 min. later I'm starving again. I wake up at night wiht stomach pains because I'm so hungry. Yesterday, my doctor said I can start thick liquids on Friday for 1 week, then mushies for 1 week. I don't know if I can make it. Please help?!
  21. Hi I'm in Lufkin (120 miles NE of Houston). I was banded on Aug. 14. I'm still sore, but it is SO much better than the days right after surgery. I went today for my 1st post-op doctor visit. Dr said everything was great. I still have to be on the clear liquid diet through Thursday. Then on Friday I can start having thick liquids. I am so hungry that I don't know if I can make it. How do you keep yourself full on Clear Liquids? ugh! Good luck to all those being banded this week!!! It will be great!
  22. vegasgirl, me too LOL. I did eat some jello yesterday too. I forgot about that. I need to get myself into the 3 meal schedule. I'm really bad about just eating at random times right now, but once I get back to school I will be on more of a schedule. I think I am getting a lot more calories than you are. My protein drinks have 150 calories per 8 oz. and I'm drink 2 of those a day. I'm not sure how many calories the jello and broth have. How much other fluid are you drinking in between meals?
  23. vegasgirl44, What are you able to eat right now? I am still on liquids. I drink 2 protein drinks a day, at least 16 oz. of juice, and trying to get down 64 oz. of water, tea, or broth but that is very hard. I haven't weigh since I've been home from surgery. I will do that at the dr office tomorrow when I go for my post-op appointment.
  24. welcome back vegasgirl44! Glad to hear you are doing well. Do I say this is Day 4 post op or Day 3 post op? Not sure if I count the day of surgery. I had my surgery on August 14. Anyway, the muscles around my port area are still somewhat sore but so much better than they have been. I still have some gas pains, but I think it's mostly from not being able to go to the bathroom. I go back to the doctor tomorrow for my post-op visit. I anxious to see what he has to say. I don't even remember him coming in to see me after surgery because I was so out of it. It is so wonderful to hear all the stories from everyone else. Keep up the good work and good luck to all!
  25. eszymanski, I go back to work on Monday too. I'm hoping most of this pain is gone by then. I really need to go to the bathroom but I'm unable to (sorry if that's TMI) . I'm sure that would help with the gas. Good luck!
