  1. Have you asked your doctor? Are you sure you don't have a leak? And how much does your band hold? Are you counting the "primer" that's in the band to start in that total? Please realize that it's almost impossible to tighten a band up all the way and the person not feel something (remember how small that hole is once the band is filled? and add stomach tissue to that...that hole isn't big.) You need to talk to your doc; you either have a leak, or a large band, or a VERY strong esophagus, or you have miscalculated how much is in there. Good luck!
  2. Another voice for the "not good to throw up daily, let alone blood". You've probably ruptured a vessel in your esophagus. You do need to see your doc asap; from what I've read this type of thing is something that if you catch it early is no big deal and if you ignore it it can cause band removal. Take care of yourself!
  3. luluc gave you the web site I've heard of...couch to 5k. Haven't done it but know a few "board" people on another board who say they have and that it works! Good luck!
  4. I had diarrhea when I was on liquids only but as soon as I moved on to mushies (and had lots of fiber rich foods like refried beans) it stopped. It's "normal" in a way, because anytime you put something in the top it moves things along the whole route, but it isn't "normal" to have to have a bowel movement every time you ingest anything, as you know. Sounds like your digestive system is just REALLY moving things along! If I were you I'd give a quick call to my surgeon. S/He may say more fiber but he may have a different approach. :cursing: Make sure you stay hydrated!
  5. You mean puked? I had to drink mag citrate...many of us have to do something to "clean you out" and most of it isn't pleasant! BUT worth it in the long run! :cursing:
  6. Geez dude you can't even read. I didn't tell her not to eat pizza and I'm not hypocritical...you wouldn't know how I'm doing on the band if I didn't put it out there for everyone to see! Someone must have messed in your cocoa puffs or something. Chill out.
  7. Debbie thank you very much!
  8. I got 1.5 cc's in my 14 cc band. Doc's choice. He's conservative. and it took me until the 5th fill to feel it.
  9. We all get different "rules" from our docs; I was thinking more of the rules we all have in common. Not all docs say no snacks, not all docs say protein first, etc Exercise, though, that one I forgot. I think they almost ALL want us to exercise!
  10. Each doc is very different but there are a few things the all seem to require in common (or rather most all...there's ALWAYS an exception) and those things are: small bites well chewed don't drink with meals Follow Your doc's pre- and post-op diet until healed That's it. At least IMHO...There's not really a hard and fast "list" that all docs give their patients...just those things above that all docs seem to want. Otherwise it's pretty much open season! For everything you're told to do you can find someone on here whose doc contradicts it!
  11. I'm not sure how he knew, believe it or not. But not an xray..probably ultrasound, and liver enzymes, and palpating it, and my weight and age! And I had a THREE week preop diet so you can see why I thought "oh wow I'll cheat and he'll NEVER know!" NOT! I can laugh about it now but not be cavalier about it. I had to drink 64 oz Water (at least), 2-3 of a specific Protein shake, and 3 oz lean poultry or fish and some green veggies, and that's it. no butter no SF Jello nothing else. And when I did what he wanted the weight dropped off of me, and the fat from my liver. So do what your doc wants and you'll be fine. Don't cheat just because some people on here think it doesn't matter...I am sure no one would want to intentionally derail or undermine someone else but if you trust your doc to operate on you, trust him to tell you what to eat pre and post op! Good luck!
  12. I don't know what "I'm a bloater" means but this is probably something you could discuss with a surgeon who does lap band AND other surgeries. I weighed 405 when I got my band and I love it.
  13. I was under the impression that things like Beans, ground meat, and chips were sliders? IF so, then the band wouldn't really be of much use, would it? If you were fine until the "taco bell" incident then maybe this was just a fluke. I know I can only eat like 3-4 ounces of steak , but if I heat up chili I can eat a ton of it. It may depend as much on what you ate as on your fill. And as Cathy said, you can lose Fluid over time so you may not be right at 8.7ccs any more. It's not time to panic! Just see how you do with "solids" and have your doc check your fill level if you still think you can overeat.
  14. I was told not to eat anything that causes peristalsis (digestion) and I am a firm believer to do only what your doc says and NOT what you read here. I read about people who cheated on their preop diet and got the band just fine, or didn't even HAVE a preop diet. SO I figured I could do that too. I lost 15 pounds doing my own thing and guess what? NO BAND because my liver didn't shrink. So please call your doc, do what he tells you. Different docs have different styles of surgery, place the band a little differently etc. Each doc should know what is right for his or her own patients. My doc says what happens is people advance their diets too quickly, think they got away with it, then have a slip down the road and think "Why me!?" Odds are you are ok but if you ate "ahead of the game", let your doc tell you that you're ok, not posters here (however well meaning we all may be!)
  15. dhall111 My doc explained his diet and rationale to me (after the fact) I won't post it here because I don't mean to "diss" someone else's doc or diet etc but you might ask your surgeon why s/he prefers a certain diet over another. Mine had good solid reasons for his.
  16. I think you need to find out what's wrong with your band. We aren't docs so can't really tell you if it's slipped, leaks, what? but you need medical advice. Go get some help.
  17. Everyone is different. I was HUNGRY. I just toughed it out. I knew if I cheated I could cause a slip and that is a mighty motivator to not advance my diet faster than the doc said I could. Some lucky people aren't hungry for a time, probably because their stomachs are unhappy after the surgery. Not me. No, my Iron stomach was right as rain and I woke up in recovery HUNGRY. It is only for a short while, though. I spent a lifetime being hungry on diets and that was like one intense period and now I'm rarely hungry. When I am, I eat a little and it passes. I think of it as a kind of "trial" I went through for freedom from hunger.
  18. Jacqui I haven't been to WW in a couple years but I can tell you that, when I was last there, the requirements to eat (44 "points" a day and so on...and the points required drop as you lose, and depending on age etc) were more food than I can physically consume right now with my band at 6.25 cc in my 14cc band. My doc is adamant about no Snacks. So whether or not you want to do the "Protein first" thing (and note I said protein first, not protein exclusively! ) WW could be hard to truly follow because it's hard to get that much down. Some people can't even eat most fruits etc. We all have to find our own best way to use this tool and I'm sure you and I agree 100% on that. And WW is a healthy diet...we can concur on that as well! But if you TRULY follow the WW discipline it will be hard to get all the food in, until you've lost enough for the requirement to drop low enough. At my weight if I just ate 1000 cal a day, per WW I would NOT be working the program. See my point? So I said...dont' follow it verbatim! :purplebananna:
  19. Are you going bald? Or just losing hair? My doc told us in the seminar that we'd all lose at about 3-6 months out, that nothing (protein biotin yada yada etc) would really help (they'd done studies) that it seems tied to the stress of surgery/weight loss, and that within 2-3 months after the start it will stop. he said he's never had a patient that needed a wig or hair piece. Mine fell out and I thought it was TONS but my hairdress of 20 years (this woman knows my hair better than I do) never could tell. It quit and is fine. So unless you are really going bald, I wouldn't worry about it. You may of course ask your surgeon to be sure.
  20. Yes you can. That's one reason bypassers gain weight back. Sometimes it can be "fixed" by getting totally unfilled and waiting a while, but not always. I THINK it takes more than one or two meals, of course, but the stomach is stretchy and over time you can expand the little pouch.
  21. Same to you! Please always call me out if you doubt what I'm typing...!! I am so NOT perfect! now we can join hands and sing "Kum-bah-ya" LOL :purplebananna: j/k
  22. I did until I got it through my thick skull that I needed to take SMALL bites (like dime sized or smaller) and chew WELL (at least 40 times). When I do that...VOILA! No PB! No STUCK! LOL I am careful, especially when I'm hungry or in company, to watch myself and I haven't had a problem in a while now. Usually PB and stuck means too tight (at least that's what I read on here, that clued me into what I was doing wrong)
  23. To be honest I've never had a smoothie but doesn't it have pureed fruit? If so, are you sure you can have that this soon post op? Some can, some can't. I couldn't. Just don't hurt yourself trying to find something that isn't nauseating; if you aren't sure, ask your doc.
  24. I'm not at all offended; I didn't take it personally...you don't know me from Adam so it couldn't be personal! But perhaps it is that I live in the "diabetes capital" (as we affectionately call it; it's not official) and falling asleep after every meal isn't normal or good and is often a blood sugar issue and should be checked by a doc. There's a lot of misinfo here on the boards and I don't mind at all being called when I'm wrong (very human here) but also try to stand up if I think something is right; because it is important. I didn't mean it as a personal attack on you either...just that the OP needs to ask her doc because whatever it is, it isn't normal.
  25. I don't KNOW, ok? but I THINK it's caused by the band not being properly placed and/or slipping early on, agitating the stomach. Like when people advance their diet ahead of doc's orders they can mess things up enough that they aren't in pain right away but don't heal right and have problems down the road. I do know that erosion is rare. For me, for example, at my high weight, I had way more chance of a heart attack or stroke than I do band erosion or slipping.
