Interesting info on causes of slippage and other problems
Very interesting, elcee. Thanks for sharing!

What type of anaesthesia is used for Lapband procedure?
Of course you can be immobilized/anesthetized with injectable drugs, but if you are sufficiently paralyzed to allow for surgery, you'd need to be intubated/ventilated anyway. You're safest to discuss this with an anesthesiologist.

Hint for drinking soda..
Not all docs say carbonation is a "forever" off limits thing. So do what your doc says. I'd think if it's flat it's safe, but who knows? It's not off limits to me now.

Any last minute advice?
The one thing I found vital was my lip balm because my lips were desert dry. AND...are you sure you can take liquid ibuprofen? Lots of docs say NO NSAIDS because of stomach upset and recommend liquid tylenol/acetaminophen You'll do great I'm sure

Lap Band AP, 10cc or 14cc?
I believe the Realize band holds 11 ccs, the AP Large holds 14...so if it matters to you which you have/how much it holds you might confirm with your doc. Since you think you have Realize, 14cc..I don't think it comes with that capacity. ? Worth asking about.

Anyone else bigger "down yonder"?
I COULD think of several snappy answers, considering the gist of this thread, but... it really refers to "Non-Scale Victory" Some weight loss related thing (like fitting into smaller clothes) that isn't just seeing the numbers go down on the scale. In a way, this thread is devoted to a specific male NSV.

I didn't know fainting was a NSV!

Thanks! I can use all prayers, positive vibes, kind thoughts, lit candles, and sacrificed chickens.

LapBand VS Sleeve??
As I said, I love my band. Now I'm done for the night; NCLEX coming up on Weds (God help me) I hope you never get disenchanted with the band, woman; you'd have to start a new life somewhere LOL

LapBand VS Sleeve??
No I don't want validation. You don't know me very well, of course, but trust me. You thinking I had the right surgery doesn't matter one damn bit to me. Don't mean that nasty either. Just that I've got a good brain and usually make up my own mind. I just meant that I don't have an agenda and I feel you do, is all. HOWEVER Wasa I just had an epiphany. This is just me, of course. But personally? I dont' really care. The stats won't change my opionion. The god of WLS (whoever THAT IS) won't change my opinion. I have my band, I've had it a year, and I LOVE it. I don't want a different surgery, and I would have never ever had the sleeve or bypass. So I'm lucky the band was there, even if it IS the edsel of WLS (which I am still not necessarily in agreement about) As long as we each get what we need, who cares? You're happy with yours, I like mine just fine. Those who are still deciding will decide with our without our debate and will probably base their choices on things over which we have no knowledge or control, so it's almost moot. Peace out, my dear. We can just disagree and leave it at that. I still like you even if I've exasperated you.

LapBand VS Sleeve??
I've asked you twice for stats and each time you told me they were deleted. I didn't say the stats were for lap band vs sleeve. Furthermore, you KNOW there is more to choice than stats. Or, do you roll the dice, play the odds, check the stats every time you do anything? Stats are easily manipulated. They are informative but should NOT be the only guide. I am GLAD you have your sleeve and honest to God glad you like it. I mean that. (Please reread that sentence) Can you say the same about me and my band? Nah.
-
LapBand VS Sleeve??
Fact is Wasa I've asked you for backup and you tell me it's been deleted. True, no? Much as I like you, calling something a "fact" doesn't make it so. No matter how many times you repeat it, or how vehemently.

LapBand VS Sleeve??
I think I'll PM you about this; I don't have a "formed" opinion but still gathering info and don't need to subject anyone who reads this thread to my meanderings. I do love my band though and I for one would likely never have had the surgery had it not been an option. Too bad, too; I needed some help.

LapBand VS Sleeve??
It is still performed, and for many it is the option insurance will provide. So do I misinterpret this when I assume that we should NOT get the band? Ergo...antilapbandtalk.com And when asked "why did you choose lapband" I'd need to say "it doesn't apply since it is obviously the wrong choice" Understand I firmly believe in debate and think free speech is good. However I've been here about a year now (not as long as many of you, but longer than some) and tried to give thoughtful, prudent, sound advice. I'm feeling in recent months though a trend to kind of "pounce" on people who prefer the band. Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive and if so, please forgive me (can't blame PMS...I'm past all that!) but others have voiced concerns to me too. At any rate, as I always say, if I don't like what I'm reading I can just move on. No one forces me to come here, and if the prevailing need is for the pros of the sleeve over the band, so be it. I have other venues for support, and I don't want my prejudices or what I would find useful to spoil things for others.

LapBand VS Sleeve??
I didn't say it was bad...you assume I meant that but I didn't. With more and more mods needing and getting revision, and some very vocal advocates for other surgeries, I just can't help but wonder is the band on the way out? I'm pretty assertive and fairly equable and sometimes I feel that if I post a proband sentiment in one of these threads, well, Katie bar the door. Debate is wonderful. Harangue is tedious. That's all.

I wonder when they are going to rename this web site ANTILAPBANDTALK.com?

Which shakes are the best?
Just a head's up...many surgeons prefer you forgo the straws, at least for a while, because they can increase gas. And one thing you DO not want to do when you are newly post op is make MORE gas! Check with your doc to get his/her take on it.
-
Back pain? extra gas?
How much have you lost? When I had gall bladder issues it hurt ACROSS my back, not just on the right. You probably should call your doctor. Any "new" symptom when we haven't done something (like get a fill, change our diet, etc) should be run by the doc (unless it's like you have lost a lot of weight and people are chasing you. That's different! ) Good luck.

Hint for drinking soda..
It's ok...don't feel bad about "pop". Where I grew up we called them all COKES. Sprite, Dr pepper, tab, didn't matter...it was all COKE.

Tighter In he morning
How much water is too much is a hot debate. Aside from too much, I wonder when it isn't really that helpful. You can get to the point where you are just washing electrolytes out, water soluble vitamins, tasking your kidneys, and so on. I think 64 oz is a good amount, more than that would be personal, much more than that and you should get your surgeon's take on the debate.

difference between being too full and eating the wrong food
Your experience is so different from mine, I'm hard pressed to help you.. and your surgeon, IMHO, is an ass. There I said it! LOL I think (this is personal opinion, not medical advice) that what you are eating is way WAY too soon for your stage, especially since you had so much trouble with being too tight, swollen, etc. I'm not a doc and don't even play one on TV (or here) but good grief I'd have thought that once you FINALLY got unfilled and things settled down, you'd need to take it slow and easy. If you vomited a lot post op (with being too tight etc) you may have slipped your band. And what type of spasms do you have? Are you totally unfilled right now? What med do you take for it? (if you want to answer and it's too personal to post here please PM me) If I were you, I'd be doing full liquids and mushies, proceeding REALLY carefully. I live in San Antonio and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mexican food (born and raised in El Paso which has even better more authentic food than here) but I wouldn't have gone for it at 3 1/2 weeks if I had the history you do. In fact I had a great worry free recovery and didn't have Mexican until week 6...(not counting refried Beans as mushies; they weren't spicey though) and then I had soft stuff...a chile relleno. I didn't even approach chips till week 8...they went down fine, but still I never had your issues! So I'm afraid it was too soon... I'd also by now probably have changed surgeons. I guess you should call him Monday and ask. You've had so many issues. If you were healing well, it were at week 6 or so, and you had those issues I'd "guess" that probably you just weren't used to the diet . If you are unfilled what you ate wasn't too much and should've been digested normally, providing you've healed well and your pouch and stoma didn't become agitated. So...ask your doc. I wanted to share with you my thinking because I think your doc kind of pushes you around (like you don't know if you have diaphragm spasms...which are usually hiccups, or esophageal spasms, which can require band removal) so maybe I can help you figure out what to ask and what to do about your stomach. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

hi??s sex after band
You need to ask your surgeon; they are all different and he will have advice tailored to you, your situation, his experience with his patients (based on his skills etc) so do as he says.

Pain when I get up or bend over
Unless you are usually active like that, odds are that you're just sore from the exertion. However if you still feel bad on Monday call your surgeon and run it by him.
