  1. Amen, Andyisbanded! Do what your doc says! I'm living proof!
  2. How do you know he didn't used to be overweight and is impressed with your grit? How do you know he isn't dreadfully shy and had to work up the courage to get your attention? Forget your self esteem, why assume something mean of him?
  3. See that won't work for people like me...my doc is adamant about NO Snacks. And he's right; when i don't snack (regardless of calorie count or the healthy nature of the snack) I lose better! BUT either way it can be worked out to our physicians specs; it's life. Thinner people make it work, we can too.
  4. You should've called your doc on friday!
  5. How do you know he didn't like you and was just flirting with you?
  6. If that works for you, then good. Personally when I get punished I push back (even if I'm the one who decided on the punishment) That "OMG I sinned I deserve to be punished now" mindset doesn't work at all well for me. If it helps you, then good. If not, then let it go...just start from today making healthy choices. This is life, not a diet. You've only hurt yourself; you can just let it go and move on from here if you want. Or not! Your call! :welldoneclap:
  7. There's your answer and yes it's normal, although some surgeons do put a fill in during surgery, most do not I didn't feel restriction until my 4th fill. Until then I ate fairly normally.
  8. Here's a link to a page about adhesions...(probably way more info than you are interested in) Adhesions, General and After Surgery In a nutshell, post surgery, it's when tissue becomes attached to other tissue , but it wasn't connected before the surgery. It happens as we heal and tissues are "together". To prevent adhesions you want to move the tissues so they don't "connect", if that makes sense? (this is really basic here but I think you get the drift). Instead of being very careful with my abdomen, babying myself, walking stooped over because it "pulls" etc I started out from the minute I got home walking normally, moving, twisting, everything but lifting. I slept on my stomach to keep it all stretched out. That type of "normal" movement will help prevent adhesions from forming and giving me trouble later. You don't want to be so vigorous that you pop your stitches, but normal movement as I've described is really helpful. So start now! :welldoneclap:
  9. I had almost no pain. Seriously; only took 1 mg of morphine post op (way less than I could have had), removed the Q ball (thing with pain killer in it that washes your insides) the MINUTE i got home. Slept on my left (port) side 1st nigte, on my stomach from 2nd on (in my own bed) and took only tylenol (liquid a time or two and then regular). The gas (good surgeons remove most of it) gave me minor pain...mostly referred pain from my diaphragm, when I walked a lot (and started breathing more deeply) and when that happened my husband could rub my neck and the pain would disappear immediately. Honestly I've felt worse longer from having bronchitis. Never nauseated for an instant, either.
  10. Sorry just saw your last question. No I didn't worry about anesthesia because I'd had my gall bladder removed in 2003. I was petrified that I would die. I wrote about it just recently so don't want to beat a dead (LOL) horse but ... I oriented myself immediately in recovery (because you don't feel time pass under anesthesia like you do when you sleep) by looking at the time, I lay still and took deep deep breaths (whether it hurt or not) to clear my lungs, and as soon as they took the mask off of me I started talking to the nurse. In other words I fought to wake up. I refused all except 1 mg of morphine(which she snuck by me LOL) because I wanted to be awake and alert. and my recovery was rapid and smooth with very little pain. I drank as soon as they would let me (water, not juice; less likely to nauseate) and urinated, walked, etc ASAP. I was honestlly so happy to be alive and without that stupid gall bladder! It was OVER! I was very cheerful! I copied that behavior for my 1st and 2nd lap band surgeries and recovered smoothly each time. Only needed tylenol pain meds, slept in my own bed from the start, etc. I was scared the first time but just decided that I had to have it done, that other people lived through it, and that I needed to quit whining (internally!) and make it an adventure. That type of self-talk works for me (obviously)...so I WAS scared, but not any more!
  11. Nope never not a bit. I drank 16 ounces of Water in the hospital just a bit after they wheeled me from recovery to my room. I didn't chug it but I didn't sip it for an hour either. I drank it. I didn't get "resistance" until my 4th fill.
  12. IF your problem is eating too much at meals, then yes. IF your problem is grazing and snacking, then maybe not, or at least, not without some real work on your part. Because it provides portion control but you can graze and literally eat all day. What is that saying...I can eat an elephant, one bite at a time? LOL So only you can really answer that question.
  13. Remember the old saying "Don't borrow trouble"? Well...Don't! If you've done as you were asked you're bound to be fine. Just remember as you go through this that while I know people are truly truly trying to be nice and helpful when sharing on here, if you get advice that contradicts your doctor, proceed carefully. Doc's aren't gods and aren't always right, but if you trust them enough to cut you open etc..then don't cavalierly toss aside their advice about dieting etc :welldoneclap: You'll be great I'm sure!
  14. If it IS an adhesion the only real treatment is to just stretch and tough it out and hope it will lessen, depending on how long it's been there etc. (My husband had a dog bite with some adhesions, which is how I learned about them and learned I didn't want them! LOL) And it may NOT be one...good to ask your surgeon. For some extreme cases they do surgery, but surgery is what caused the prob. in the first place and it just makes MORE scar tissue. Since I had 2 operations in under 3 weeks, using same sites, I was really alert to making sure I moved, stretched, and kept things moving while I healed. So if yours in an adhesion, moving and stretching will hurt initially but should help minimize it. Good luck! :welldoneclap:
  15. Then I'm sure you'll be fine! :welldoneclap:
  16. What is your usual Easter dinner? If it were me I'd probably have something easy like refried Beans or some such and plan to have easter dinner again next year... it's not like you're on a diet and can never have ham and potatoe salad (or whatever) again, you know. I will say that I pureed (well I have a small food processor I used loved that little thing!) things like spaghetti and while it looked awful it tasted like it was supposed to. So depending on what you normally have, you can "still" have it.
  17. Yes ask your doc but it sounds to me like an adhesion? That's one reason I started out sleeping on my stomach etc..I didn't want adhesions to form. Let us know what your doc says!
  18. I didn't ask him "How do you know!!!" LOL I assume blood work, GI results, ultrasound results, his experience. The "take home" for me, is: If I had done what he told me to, I would've gotten my band as scheduled and only had 1 surgery instead of 2. I did what he told me after that. In 2 1/2 weeks I lost 17 MORE pounds and he was successful in banding me. I wish I'd just done as he asked originally. Just don't eat the extra chicken LOL and you should be fine if you've done as your surgeon asked of you!
  19. YES he knew That's why he gave me a 3-week long preop diet! BUT I cheated. I didn't tell him. I lost 15 pounds; he thought I'd done as he asked, but I didn't. It wasn't his fault, it was mine for not doing as he asked. And yes I read on here poster after poster who either didn't have to do a preop diet, or "cheated" and it was fine, or "their doc told them not to worry" so I figured I'd be ok. WRONGO! So do what your doc says, not what others are told, not what others "get away with". Because you may be ok but if, like me, you aren't, it is dreadful. And my doc said "I could've opened you up but I know you had nursing school starting at the end of August and you would not have been able to attend because of a lengthy recovery" so I'm glad he didn't "open me up" The recovery is MUCH longer, the surgery is MUCH more drastic. SO not worth it!
  20. Just FYI because of reading posters here who said "it won't matter" and "it won't hurt" (and I'm sure they were well intentioned, not trying to be mean) I "cheated", lost 15 pounds (YAY) and did NOT get my band the first time because for me, it DID matter and it DID hurt. So please...just hang in there. It is not worth it to come to in recovery and be told you didn't get the band.
  21. I agree with Sassysara....stick to what your doc prescribed! It's just chicken; so not worth risking your surgery for! Probably it would be ok but the doc gave you your diet for a reason. Just hang in there!
  22. tylenol...but don't take more than the bottle recommends!
  23. NO!!! Don't eat ahead of your post op diet. I'm sure it's not pleasant...NO ONE likes it! I don't have IBS but I too had diarrhea for the first week. DIscuss your heart issues with your surgeon. Hang in there, and good luck!
  24. Still just a student but IMHO the band will make it easier. My doc says to eat in 30 minutes or less...and we won't be eating much. So I plan to just "take" lunch somehow (I know in some places the culture is to skip lunch, but I'm not going to do that) I figure I'll stay full longer so it will be easier than if I didn't have the band!
