    Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

Well I wish I could say I am doing great but I have lost 3 lbs and gained two back again. I went in for another fill and nothing! I guess just put me down for 1lb lost.
  6. I too am in the same boat as everyone else and very frustrated I have had two fills now w/ 6.5cc in a 10cc band. My band was placed w/3cc already in it, 1st fill added 3cc and 2nd added only .5cc. No restriction at all ever, I can eat anything, nothing gets stuck and I am hungry just an hour or two after I have eaten. I try to make the right choices and eat small meals but still no real weight loss. In fact, I just gained back the 3lbs I lost between my first and second fill! My calorie intact is between 1000 and 1200, I exercise with an eliptical machine & free weights 4 - 5 x per wk for at least 1 hour a day. I am scheduled for another fill Feb 16th and I am hoping they will put in at least 1cc or more. Do you think restriction will ever come?

    Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

I'll take that challenge as well. I figure by Febraury 14th, @ 1 lb per week I should be able to loose another 7 lbs to put me down to 185. We can do this:thumbup:
  8. Surgery date - November 7th Highest Weight - 217 Preop diet starting weight - 217 Surgery weight (Your weight the day of surgery) - 209 Current weight -196 Goal weight - 130
  9. Hey everyone, congrats on making it to this far! I was banded last Friday, November 7th. I started walking the day of surgery and haven't quit because it has really helped with my gas pains. I took tylonel w/ codine the first two days but I haven't taken anything since. I am on clear fluids and Protein shakes until Friday, then I can eat some blended Soups, cream of wheat, etc. The only time I am hungry is in the morning but it probably because I didn't have any protein in my system throughout the night. I have lost four lbs. post-op and 10 lbs. on the pre-op diet. I figure right now I am healing so I am not concentrating hard on loosing. But hey if I loose in the mean time then that's a bonus!! Good luck everyone.
  10. I am also on the pre-op diet right now and can only have protein shakes that are high in protein ( 20 grms ), low in carbs plus any clear liquids, broths, sf jello and sf popcicles. I have a few more days before my surgery and then I have another week of liquids. My protein intake amount is 100 grms a day which I find easy to accomplish with the low carb slimfast shakes I use and since my protein intake is so high ( 20 grms per drink ), I haven't had a problem with getting hungry. Try to increase your protein intake, if not by adding in a protein shake then get a flavored dry protein powder and mix it with skim milk or unflavored and mix it with your cottage cheese if your allowed to have that. Also, my doc did say never again should I drink carbonated drinks including diet types. Keep pressing and good luck!

    TriCare help? Total confusion.

I have Tricare Standard, since I live in Missouri I go through TriWest. On the Triwest website there I can login and view my claims, payments and authorizations. I can also email there with questions so it's quite handy. Double check and see if your Tricare website has this feature.

I am not banded yet but will be on November 7th, 2008; however I do have thyroid diease and one of my issues is hair loss when my meds are not working correct. I take 1500 mcg daily of biotin when helps me retain my hair. I agree check with your nutritionist and see if maybe Biotin will work for you.
  13. My surgery date is November 7th! I started this entire process in February 2008 so it's been a long time coming. This Friday, October 24th I start my two week liquid diet. Congrats to everyone and I am glad I am finally starting the rest of my life!!!
  14. I just received my Tricare approval on September 17th. I was first denied because I didn't weigh enough and no co-morbids. After two plus months of medical records, weight gaining, etc., I am now qualified on my weight and have been able to show two co-morbids (Sleep apena and arthritis in knees). Plus I am pre-diabetic, have a heart valve issue, and hypothyroidism. I don't have my surgery date yet, I am hoping to find out today. Good luck to everyone and thank you for your support and a special thanks to Suzanne for her appeal letters.

    Approved!

I am very happy for you; good luck with everything! I have insurance through Tricare and was disapproved in June. It took a little over two months, letters and more medical records but I was just approved on September 17th. I don't have a date yet, but I am hoping to find that out today. God Bless,

    question???

Many insurance companies are requiring members to have one sometimes two co-morbids in addition to various weight or BMI requirements. Sleep Apena is a co-morbid for some of the companies, like mine (TRICARE). There are overweight people like myself who do not have high blood pressure or diabetes so other co-morbids need to be researched. Being diagnosed with sleep apena and prescribed a CPAP machine to help me sleep is a good thing. If you do not have some of the normal co-morbids associated with obesity ( high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. then having a sleep test is definately worth a shot.

    Tricare

    Check out the most recent (1983) Metlife scale. You need to know what body frame size you are first. For example if you are 5'3" and a medium frame, you will have to weigh at least 236 in order for Tricare to qualify you. Tricare uses the high end weight on each frame size. I know this for a fact because this is exactly what they told me. I was denied first for being underweight and now have another appointment for another weigh - in. Height & Weight Table For Women1 Small Frame FrameMedium FrameLarge 4' 10" 102-111 109-121 118-131 4' 11" 103-113 111-123 120-134 5' 0" 104-115 113-126 122-137 5' 1" 106-118 115-129 125-140 5' 2" 108-121 118-132 128-143 5' 3" 111-124 121-135 131-147 5' 4" 114-127 124-138 134-151 5' 5" 117-130 127-141 137-155 5' 6" 120-133 130-144 140-159 5' 7" 123-136 133-147 143-163 5' 8" 126-139 136-150 146-167 5' 9" 129-142 139-153 149-170 5' 10" 132-145 142-156 152-173 5' 11" 135-148 145-159 155-176

    Ideas for tricare appeal

Tricare uses the Metlife weight table when determining how much you should weigh but they also use your body frame size. First thing I would do is call your doctor and find out what frame size they said you were. Then look at the Metlife weight table for your height and frame size to determine if you are the 100 lbs overweight Tricare requires. For example, if you are a small frame and the Metlife table puts your weight at 109 - 121, then you will have to weigh at least 222 lbs for Tricare ( they use the high end of each frame size ). I am battling this same thing with Tricare right now, however I weigh on the low end of my frame size with Thyroid, arthritis and sleep apena. The weight is not too big of an issue with me for if I am not very strict with my eating habits, I'll gain weight like crazy. Hope this gives you a place to start.

    Calling all Tricare Patients!!!!!

My VA doc told me it would show good faith if I tried to lose some weight before going to my bariatric doc consult appointment so I lost 5 lbs of Water weight. My paper work was submitted to Tricare Ins. but it was disapproved. Get this I was disapproved because I didn't weight enough ( I am 211, on the low end of the Met Life table). Anyone have this issue and if so how did you combat it? Also, Co-Morbids: I am blessed with only have sleep apena and arthritis in my knees. I am getting an MRI next week on my knees so I'll have documentation for that and I have a CPAP machine I use nightly for sleep apena. My question: Looking on the Tricare webiste I couldn't find sleep apena listed as a co-morbid, so where is it listed. Also if it is a co-morbid, is there a degree of sleep apena specified? I am thinking of doing an appeal, anyone have a good starter letter that would provide me with the basics of what to say? Thanks for your help and God Bless!

    Calling all Tricare Patients!!!!!

Hey all, I am new to posting on this board but have been reading it for sometime now. I have a problem and I wanted to see if anyone else has had this type of problem with Tricare. First some background info: I have TriCare standard, retired military with 30% diability so I receive most of my care thru the VA but they do not do the lap band. I am barely the 100 lbs overweight, Bmi 40.4, and have just received my CPAP machine for sleep apena. I had my first appt with surgeon on June 26, handed in all my paperwork including my first sleep apena test. I told him I had my second test on June 25th but didn't have results back. He said he'd send the request to TriCare without the second test results. On July 1st, I received my results and my CPAP machine. I immediately took the test to the dr's office which was put in my chart. On July 2nd, I received a letter in the mail from Tricare stating I was disapproved ( letter was dated June 30th ). The disapproval said I needed one of the co-morbid problems along with my 100 lbs overweight. Since I received my CPAP machine and have been confimed with sleep apena I didn't think I would of have a problem getting approved through TriCare. The Tricare letter didn't mention sleep apena as one of the co-morbids, it used the word narcolepsy. Do you think since I didn't have my second results in with the request that may be why I wasn't approved? I also have Tricuspid Valve Regrigitation from taking Redux and I am going in this month for an MRI on my left knee due to arthritus buildup and my knee giving out. Any thoughts, recommendations would be great!
