  1. I could, too! Love that my mom used to say she was going to put a lock on the refrigerator! How sweet is she?

  3. Well, my mom used to tell me to "suck it in" when we were in public. She also said she was going to put a lock on the refrigerator. That's true mother's love right there. I was told that I might be pretty if I wasn't so fat by a kid in high school. When my first daughter was a year old, one of the ladies I worked with said, "are you pregnant again, or are you just fat?" Nice.

    Band Slipped, HELP!

Ok, wait… the band is STILL slipped after 4 months unfilled? If that's the case, then yes… I'm pretty sure you're going to either need a reposition or revision, or even to be unbanded. You'll have to talk to your surgeon about your options, but if the slip has not resolved after 4 months of being completely unfilled, your surgeon is going to have to do something.

    July Butterflies Master Thread

Hello, July 2008 Bandsters! Just wondering how everyone is doing? I ended up going from 265lbs to 155lbs! I felt great, and loved it! I did get pregnant and had my son Nov. 2011. I had to have a complete unfill during my pregnancy, resulting in my now 230lbs. I was just able to go get a fill (no more tricare, so now I pay for them), and I'm looking forward to loosing the weight again! The tech who did the flouro (done at every fill) says there is a kink in the tubing of my band. That resulted in her being unable to retrieve fluid. We were worried it had a leak, but when she shifted some things around, she accessed the fluid. The kink is still there, however. I'm hoping this doesn't result in other problems. It probably happened during my pregnancy when everything got shifted around! How are all of you? Great results? Complications? Frustrations??

    New addictions?

Shopping. Although, I loved to shop before I was banded, too. Just not to this extent, lol.

Gentlemen... Please advise me! Re: Cheating

I don't believe in the "Once a Cheater..." Junk. I do believe people can make and the regret mistakes. I believe they can choose to change, and make their spouse, marriage and family their priority again. However, I also think you will know... You know if your husband is putting you and your needs and feelings first. You know if your husband is doing everything you need him to do in order to help you heal, and rebuild your marriage. You know if your husband has recommitted himself to your relationship. Has he? What has he done to help you through his infidelity? To help you heal from the pain he has caused you? If he has not done any of these things, then it's time to knock him off the fence he's riding and force him to make a choice... Don't sacrifice your happiness.

Is It True What They Say???

Lol... This thread is hilarious! Congrats fellas!

Something is wrong, not sure what yet.

I had similar complications with my band when I was pregnant with my son. I ended up having to have it unfilled completely. I was afraid with the vomiting if risk a slip. I gained almost all of my weight back, and I just got a fill Friday to start getting it back off again. If I were in your shoes, I'd make an appt with your surgeon as soon as you can!

Has anyone had a SMALL leak?

I went to my doctor's office on Friday, and they thought I may have a leak because she was unable to retrieve fluid from my band. My doctor's office does flouro for every fill, so the tech looked around, injected saline and checked everywhere. She said she didn't see a leak, but it could be a very slow leak. Then, she checked all of the tubing and saw what she thinks is a "kink" in the tubing. The kink was causing the liquid to not come out. So, she kind of shifted the tubing around as best she could, then she was able to get fluid out. She gave me a 1.77cc fill, and I do have more restriction. I'm keeping an eye on it, though. If I loose restriction I'll be heading to the office ASAP!
  11. I haven't had or needed a fill in over a year. Been doing just great! However, I was put on antibiotics and motrin by the dentist. The antibiotics I could not cut, but the motrin I was able to cut to take them. First few days were fine. 2 Days ago, I took my antibiotic, and it must have gotten stuck. I threw up HARD. After that, I was ok. My stomach felt a little irritated, but nothing terrible. Yesterday, my stomach was even more irritated. I guess I tried to push it a little much, when I should have just stuck with liquids. TODAY, I can barely get liquids down. They stay in my pouch forever, and I can feel them gurgling as the little liquid I have taken in is slowly going down. My stomach hurts, too... like pressure from the liquids. I AM going to see a doctor tomorrow (hoping they can get me in). However, I just wondered if my stomach was severely irritated and swollen, or if I might have a slip? I am HUGELY fearful of having a slip. I really, really, really, do not want to loose my band. I have been doing SO WELL... it would be heartbreaking to have to have it removed!

    Blowing it out if proportion???

I was thinking the same thing...

    Stomach Irritation or Slippage??

It IS getting better today, and I am glad! I actually moved to another area since my surgery, but I haven't had to get a fill in over a year, so I didn't change surgeons. I called a surgeon, really THE surgeon, in the area, and they won't see me!! They need all my history from my previous surgeon, plus a barium test, whatever it's called. Even when they get all that, they have a meeting of the Doctors and Nurses in the practice, and decide collectively if they will take my case on. Ugh! What if I actually had a REALLY BAD problem? SO, I called MY surgeon, and they said it sounds like irritation. Told me to stay on warm, Clear Liquids for the next 2 days, then I'm going in at 9am Friday morning (I live 2 1/2 hours away, and I have training for work the next 2 days). She said it could get better by then, and I may NOT need an unfill, but I want to go ahead and get a little out anyway. Thanks!

    Stomach Irritation or Slippage??

Bumping... wanting some input. I have been able to keep sips of water down, but it still feels very tight and uncomfortable. FEELS like it wants to come up, but isn't actually coming up. PBing a bit, though. I am desperately hoping I just need an unfill!!! Thanks!
  15. I agree. There are so many different post op instructions. Some people, after a week, can have regular foods, some have to wait until 5 or 6 weeks. No one needs to tell her she's going to RUIN her band, because honestly they don't know that. She was not asking for a thrashing, just experiences. I am still on mushy foods, and have tried to stick to it very well. I have had some things that I probably shouldn't have had, but I chewed well, and I'm sure I'll be fine. I have DAYS before I can eat real food, and I can't wait to be able to eat something I have to chew!

    July Butterflies Master Thread

Tomorrow is my 2 week post-op appt, and I'm SO ready to ask my doctor if I can start having musie foods! I'm so sick of the soup and pudding! If I never see a can of soup again, it will be too soon!!! When did you all start mushies??
  17. Wow! I'm quite jealous! Maybe having a bit of an unfill? I would first, talk to your doctor about your concerns, then see what he suggests!
  18. I think this is SO poetic justice! LOL. My husband is having to do everything for our daughter, who is 2, while I heal! Dirty Diapers, Nap Times, Food, Sippy Cups, Playing, Whining, Fussing! All of it! I get to sit in my recliner, and watch TV, sipping my liquids, and blowing kisses at my baby girl. I love my husband, and he's a wonderful provider! But, now he knows what I go through all day! Though he would NEVER admit it, I think he's finally seeing why I'm tired at the end of the day! Not to mention, I can't lift ANYTHING, so in a couple of weeks, when it's time to start setting up my classroom (I am a teacher), he'll have to do all the furniture moving and heavy lifting! I think I timed this surgery JUST right!
  19. I'm 2 days post op, and I just had a couple ounces of Apple Juice! Good grief it tasted GOOD! Better than when I craved it during pregnancy! I imagine every new drink and food will be like having it for the first time, and I can't wait! Although I'm not hungry at all, I am excited to be able to eat actual soups, and make a smoothie after tomorrow!! So glad to have made this decision! I think it will be one of the best decisions I've ever made!
  20. I never thought about going to sonic! WOW! That's a great idea! A child's size slush would be awesome!

    July Butterflies Master Thread

Hi! *waves* I'm Ashley. I'm 27, an Army Wife, and mother to a beautiful 2 year old girl. She's mainly the reason I did this. I can't keep up with her at this weight. As young as I am, and as hard as I try, the weight holds me back, and I don't want it to be that way ANY MORE! I also wanted to do this so during future pregnancy(ies) I can be as healthy as possible! Not to mention, I would like to refrain from gaining the 80lbs I did with my first pregnancy! I am an elementary school teacher, and so excited to get to this year, teaching, being the best mommy and wife I can be, and LOOSING THIS WEIGHT!! I'm glad to have found a place to share in this experience with others! I believe that having each other, and being able to celebrate our triumphs, and help us through our struggles is SO important in this process!

    Tricare Prime has denied me

From what my surgeon told me, you have to have a BMI of 40 (mine was 39.5) or be 100 lbs over weight, or they won't approve. Doesn't matter what else you have, or so my surgeon said. It's stupid, but it is what it is. Luckily even though my BMI wasn't quite 40, I was 100 lbs over weight. I'm sure you can appeal, but I don't know what that process is like. Good luck to you! I know all these insurance hoops you have to jump are so frusterating! I've even heard of people GAINING weight just to be approved, and it's sad that insurance requirements have brought people to that! I really hope you get approved!

    preop-surgery-postop advice

Actually, my doctor said it IS to shrink the liver. That is exactly what my doctor told me. The liver absorbs so much fat from our diet, and restricting calories and fat can shrink it to normal size. At least that's what my doctor told me. And, judging by the surgery I watched on YouTube, they aren't as fragile as you'd think! That liver retractor was scary!

    when did you start solids?

Yes, but not everyone needs what you all call "tough love". Frankly, I would take that post as rude, and many other's would as well. It was probably written in haste, because she is most likely tired of all the people wanting validation for bad choices. However, not everyone wants validation. Had she actually thought about it, there would have been better ways to write that post. Yes, the poster should not have eaten a big mac, however, she knew that to begin with. There's no reason to beat her down for it. Goodness knows, none of us are perfect, otherwise we wouldn't NEED the band.

    To all the MOMMIES!

HeartFire- I totally understand! We've been through 2 deployments, and are about to go through a 3rd. Last deployment, our daughter was 6 months old when DH deployed. When he got back, the baby he'd taken care of, and held, fed, and loved was 2! She was a big kid who walked, and talked, and whined! I don't think he quite knew what to do. So, I've been the primary caregiver, because sometimes he just feels lost, I think. We're hoping that after this next deployment we can have a 2nd baby, and he'll be THERE to see him/her grow into toddlerhood. Although, with the military, you really never know what's going to happen!
