Hey everyone thanks for ALL of your advice/suggestions and help. My steroid therapy is usually short term (two weeks of prednisone) with months or possibly even years apart from taking it. It all depends on how my joints are acting up -- which is always extremely unpredictable unfortunately. The doctors never said anything about my NSAIDS.. I have read about the dangers of it, but I think they doctors think that my chronic foot and ankle joint inflammation in combination of my weight will cause even more problems before any possible stomach problems. Their goal is to keep me out of a wheelchair. I am too young for joint replacement surgery. especially in the foot, and at two hundred and fifty pounds - ya dig? I think its extremely interesting from what I understand from the responses -- if the challenge is really not the drug, but the drug causing how much one consumes, maybe the band will be helpful -- im definitely willing to take that chance becuase I dont really have any other options. I appreciate all of your stories. Slow weightloss is better than no weight loss or weight gain. I guess I will have to have even more nutritional guidance and support.. maybe even rejoining weight watchers would be helpful. Thanks all

Wow this story is incredible... I truely believe that all overeating and eating habits stem from childhood (well either that or a traumatic event). I look at myself, and I think my weight and my eating habits are a huge beast holding me back from true happiness. All i do is obsess over the "what ifs".. and its so frusterating to me. Just today I was telling myself "please eat like a normal person today".... please try to eat like mother (my mom has been at a buck thirty five her whole life).. My earliest childhood memory.. my dad use to eat entire boxes of Cereal in a large popcorn bowl. He would pour himself a box, and smash it down so that it had the consistancy of sugar grains, He would then eat the mushy cereal -- all 13 servings. He would pour the same amount for me. Every day after primaryschool was chicken mcnuggets value menu. His idea of an award was food. I was never in an afterschool program, my parents both worked and I was latchkey from age 8 and up. That meant T.V and cereal, and sweets and everything else. Before you know it I was diagnosed with PCOS at 12, and high insulin.. and 238 pounds. Miserable, depressed, full of self hatred.. and I just never was able to bring myself out of it Today I am 250.

BTW misfortune, I am very happy that you are alive and healing! Thanks very much for sharing your story. Im sure it will definitely stick in everyones mind and we will all continue to pray for your complete recovery

Its really difficult for me to understand why everyone defends or tears down mexican doctors. I dont think anyone is trying to persuade other LBT people to stay away from Mexico -- they are just sharing stories and advising us to DO OUR RESEARCH. I appreciate all this information, all the stories, and yeah-- to be honest.. Mexico does sound scary but I wouldnt discount it. I would contact a few patients of the surgeon that I wanted just as I would do in the U.S and see their opinion. But people really... you get what you pay for.

I am semi new -- been here since march -- I am also in the process of waiitng for a surgery date. Its all up to my insurance company, as my information is all in already

Hi everyone, I have had four cortisone shots in the past year, am on Naproxen (a popular Nsaid) and have done prednisone for two weeks several months ago. All of this is due to rheumatoid arthritis. I am waiting for the answer from my insurance company currently for the lapband.. and have tried so many things to get my weight under control and to get the scale moving before I get the band. I am young as well (will be twenty one very soon) This is definitely NOT the primary reason for my weight gain, Ive always struggled with it since early childhood, and was successful enough to lose seventy pounds before my diagnoses with chronic illness. Boy was that disappointing when i gained it all back plus some. I am not sure if my weight not budging is because of the prior steroids or not... It could be metabolism issues from lack of mobility. I have no education about them. I was wondering if anyone on this board has been on steroid therapy and have still lost any weight on the lap band? Thanks for your help -cha

i like my scrambled eggs nice and crispy, blackened almost. If you guys cant get the drippy ones to go down, i probably wont even try this... have you tried noodles (thai styled noodles)

chin up girl, you are losing weight for yourself, and not anyone else. Twenty five pounds is a huge difference. Its a small child and nothing to take lightly. Slow weightloss equals LASTING weight loss. Your friend is not your scale, not is she your coach, and she obviously doesnt understand that weight cannot be lost over night. If its worth it, make sure you enforce this with her and tell her to back off The way she is rushing you, is making me almost feel like she must not want the best for you, or maybe is experiencing a little bit of envy. (from my own personal friend experiences)...

they usually dont have one in short surguries. I had two short hour and one half long surguries on my elbows and they had me use a bed pan because i forgot to go before getting all hooked up.

i would feel jipped if i was competing in a competition with all lap band folks and then a bypass person entered. They would win! lol I can see why they said no

i have a hard time taking pills with just water as well.. makes me want to yak them back up. Applesauce is good, maybe even a tiny swig of pickle juice?

i have heard this commercial in ohio : "stress raises cortisol, and cortisol causes weightgain around the tummy and hips" -- i thought it was made up gimmick to sell diet pills. That makes me want to get mine checked on because shouldnt a womans waist be ten inches or more smaller than her hips? Mine only differs by 6 to 7 inches. my weight wont budge no matter what i do either

Since having weight induced PCOS; my periods have never been right. From completely absent, to currently continuously (as in daily) spotting for two months which could be a result of my IUD... Ive never been regular -- anything from weight, to stress, and surgery especially can cause alll these crazy period symptoms

Try wearing high control panties, or very high cut black panties with your hip huggers. I love hiphuggers but have a gut, and this way, its discrete and your back side wont be smilin' at anyone lol

everything IS finally faxed over to Medical Mutual as of yesterday May 23rd, 2006. It took a ton of phone calls out of someone who HATES making phone calls for that to happen. The woman on the phone I spoke to was confused denying that they had received the psych exam, but she mentioned sharon had faxed everything to med mutual yesterday, and the person i spoke to faxed my psych exam on monday so that makes sense. -- now its just wait, cross, fingers, wait, wait wait wait wait.... hopefully I will be APPROVED!

Today I went to see the psych doctor Doctor Taliaferro) to see what the hell the problem was. It has been TWENTY days since I saw him for my psych evaluation.. thats twenty days too long, and twenty days delaying my potential lap band surgery over a fucking psych evaluation. The office claimed to have sent the information on thursday but the weight management center called me today, saying the had not received it. Extremely annoyed, I discovered that he wasnt even in the office so I couldnt even retreive it with my own hands to hand -deliver it (which is a HUGE trip in itself)...

I cant believe that a center called "fillcenterusa" wouldnt even have a fluroscope immediately available and ready for your appointment.. Maybe writing an agitated yet professional letter would help the situation. No way would they be taking three hundred from me without doing something to fix the issue -- especially since she knows your doctors banding style.
