    Sleeping

Keep the Wedge! 🤣 You need to sleep on your back with back & legs elevated after TT. I have an adjustable bed, but I’m so not a back sleeper. I’ll be happy to get passed this initial stage.

    Sleeping

I stayed in a hotel for a few days after - I just did pillows around myself to stay on my back. By about week 2 I was able to sleep on my side again. Sleeping after that surgery was easy compared to Tummy Tuck 🤪 I need to have legs and back elevated, and my back is so sore. (I’m only a week out)

Back to work after one week??

I have definitely read of people doing it. I’m fortunate and get paid sick time so took 4 weeks. I considered it a bit of a mental health break to focus on me so I could be on the right track.

    How much can you eat?

It’s all about what you eat that will determine if you can feel your restriction. If you eat slider foods - then you can definitely over eat. if you eat Chicken - I guarantee you can’t over eat. I’m 15 months p.o. and the restriction is definitely still there. I always focus on protein first.

How do I know when I'm done?

I thought my body had settled at a weight …then I proceeded to lose another 5lbs this summer. I’m 16 months p.o. At the upper end of a healthy BMI. At the lowest weight I have ever been as an adult. With my surgeon, I had actually said I’d be happy to get to 180. As of last Monday, I was 163.6. I’m not doing anything special. To me I’m at maintenance. I have my calorie goal around 1400. But really I just focus on the protein number. I don’t restrict what I eat, but do try and make better choices. I am getting a Tummy Tuck in a few weeks. Excited for that.

    Too old for plastics?

I am 49 and just booked TT for October. I’ll be 18 months out from VSG by then. Give my age, I don’t have the patience to wait. My weight has been stable for over 4 months now, so surgeon had no concerns with proceeding. He even said I could potentially loose more weight after because I’ll be more comfortable with exercise. (I’m within 20 lbs of the lowest weight I would even want to be .. I’m actually perfectly happy if my weight stays where it is currently…minus the extra skin)
  8. I have lost 100% off my excess weight, as I now sit at a “healthy” BIM. My loss just stopped when I hit 168. I thought, ok fine, maybe this is ever I was meant to land. 3 months later…the scale has started going down again. I didn’t really change what I’m doing food wise, just started walking more as the weather has improved. So a year out, things can still go down 😊

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

I too did this for portion control, not to restrict foods. I do naturally find myself going to different things though, just because certain carbs sit “heavy” - so I veer away.

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

I have hit “healthy” BMI, and my loss slowed significantly. Since the end of March I have been hanging around 168. Today I was 166.6. So I’m thinking I was just in a stall. My inches still changed during this period. I’m fine if this is where I land, but In the back of my head, I would like to hit 160.

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

I’m eating Macaroni & Cheese right now. The difference is - before surgery, I’d eat the whole box. Now I have maybe a quarter cup. (Because I get my protein in first) I have had bread to, but it usually just a bite or two. Had a white dinner bun the other day, but paired with a fried egg. All about balance.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I hit my one year tomorrow. I’ve lost 77.2. I’m 5’9”, 167.8 lb. I’m at my lowest, been hanging out here the last couple months. Still hoping to get to 165. But happy where I’m at clothing size wise.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I don't hit my one year until the end of the month. I keep wondering if I'm at where I'm going to land. I've been hovering around the same weight for about 6 weeks now. I have lost 77 lbs, started at 245, now around 168. (For context I'm 5'9", 49 y.o.) My highest adult weight was around 268..so in the grand scheme, I'm down 100 from my highest weight. I certainly have loose skin - and I have given consideration to getting my stomach and and arms done once things settle. I have still lost inches in the last couple months, so things are still changing. I am prefectly fine if this where I land. I have practically replaced my entire wardrobe, at this size 😂

    Pain after surgery

    Walk, walk, walk! It helps.

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

I’m 11 months PO. Rarely had rice pre-surgery, so don’t eat it. Wasn’t really a pasta eater, except Mac & Cheese. I can have maybe 2-3 tablespoons tops. It sits heavy (plus I always eat my protein first, so not much room). I have it on occasion. Bread - I had Hot Cross Buns at Easter. No issues. I mainly eat around it (like a chicken burger…I’ll eat the protein maybe a bite or two of the bun) I love mission carb balance Street tacos. Perfect size. I do aim to keep my carb count under my protein number.

Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay

Self pay, Surgery at 11am, released at 7:30 pm. My brother - insurance, 2 nights in hospital …he had no issues, just chose to stay.

Flight home 5 days after surgery

I had sleeve and had surgery on a Monday, flew home Thursday. Over 4 hour flight. No issues.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I was the last day of May, so I’m just over 9 months out. I’m down 74.4. Only 1.8 away from the elusive “healthy” BMI. I would probably already be there, but I was in Florida for 22 days - I didn’t gain, but only lost 0.4 during that time (which is actually a huge win - since 2 weeks of that trip was at WDW)

    Gout Flare-up, time-frame, and remedies

My brother had this same problem, doctor told him it would likely flare after his surgery. It sure did. Made the first weeks more miserable. On the flip side, surgeon said after that it should improve or go away after the weight loss.

    Do hiccups mean anything?

Mine it’s full signal or ate too fast. I had them for like 15 mins yesterday, so annoying 😂 But, I’ll take hiccups over the cues some others have.
  23. Breakfast is a must for me. …more so after surgery, because I need to eat when I take my vitamins. (Only time I have had nausea - is when I took my vitamins and didn’t eat) pre-surgery - if I skipped breakfast, I ate more throughout the rest of the day.
  24. I track my loss in 4 week increments. I’m 7.5 months out. Starting BMI 36.3 Wk 4 - 23.6, Wk 8 - 9.8, Wk 12 - 9.6, Wk 16 - 7.2, Wk 20 - 6.8, Wk 24 - 6, Wk 28- 4.8, Wk 32 - 4.2. Current BMI 25.7

    10 months post-op

I’m 5lbs from normal BMI - and it feels like it’s crawling, but I’m still losing on avg 1lb per week, so within a normal expected loss range. I actually have been upping my calories lately, and out of nowhere dropped 2.6 this week.
