  1. Do be cautious. Trust your doctor and make sure you are not over filled. A band is there to give restriction NOT to give you obstruction. Going slow is not always a bad thing and should be decided on a case by case basis.
  2. band is great let me know if i can help in any way dr. luke mayes

  6. so sorry that you are dealing with all this. sounds like you need to interview a new fill doctor. Make sure that your new doctor has been adequately trained, and ask to even speak with one of there prior patients. I would feel very comfortable for any of my patients to speak with a new patient.

Just an FYI remember if you are in Eastern Idaho, Cindy Rice is a nurse practitioner in Pocatello that has provided fills for years. She does an awesome job and has been my "fill center" as well. Her office number is 208-233-9355. I have loved being a part of each of your lives and am blessed to see each of you succeed at your weight loss goals. many Blessings, Dr. Luke Mayes 208-375-9000
  8. omgrotflmbo. i cant stop laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. again just want to reiterate this IS and has to be an urban legend. It is so similar to the story of the kidney that was stolen in a hotel room or some other dive. this is a delicate surgery and in order to be used as a transplant organ very specific protocol must be followed. there are too many things that simply can not be true in your story. Mexico was a truely awesome place to have a surgery. if i ever need another one of any kind i will go back unless it is an emergency. Not only did i have a lap band put in but i had a vasectomy at the same time, and i am proud to say that i am infertile (confirmed by a us lab). so for those of you wanting to or thinking of going to mexico. GO GO GO do not hesitate. best thing i ever did.
  10. Super Cool!!!! way to go
  11. wow what crap people come up with. not saying that you may not or may have heard this but you have definitely gotten played. not only can you not live without your pancreas but it is virtually impossible to harvest viable organs with laproscopic surgery.
  12. you are essentially correct on the 'drinking water method' and you should have an adequate fill after the first fill. however there are other factors at play. Your stomach shrinks after the fill and as you loose weight. I personally had a second fill four weeks after the first one and had adequate restriction on both. the first one just did not last as long as i thought.
  13. hey guys and gals, just to let you know i tell all of my patients if you are able to consume more than 1 cup of food, eating more than 1/4 of the amount you were eating prior to surgery, not loosing weight for 2 weeks, then you probably need a fill. but just be sure that you are not forcing food down with water or liquids . hang in there.
  14. thank you so much for sharing your thoughts but i would like to correct a few things that you shared. many people do not understand the scope of chiropractic and what it is that we are able to do within the scope of our license. There is only a few Licensed doctors who are licensed to diagnose. MD's, DO's, and DC's. NP's are able to diagnose as well but are not state licensed doctors. I have the same four year education as any medical doctor however, i do recieve much more in depth education in nutrition whereas MD's recieve more education in Prescriptive drugs. I do not perscribe as you have stated, but i do diagnosis. I just chose to use natural therapies, nutrition, and homeopathy to deal with any issues that comes up. On the occasion that i do need to give a patient a perscription i refer them to the MD next door, whom i have a working relationship with. I did try to share this with fill centers several times over the phone, but we seem to have miscomunicated. i do not just provide after care fills. I am a fully licensed portal of entry chiropractic physician. I take the entire scope of the patients health into consideration and offer any additional care that will benefit there ultimate goal of weight loss and fitness. I also have a lab in my office with equipment to evaluate Chlolesterol, UA's, BMI, BMR, and several other pieces in addition to sending out blood draws performed in our office for futher studies and evaluation. Once i recieve those results we use Nutrition in the oral and injectible form as well as IV infusion therapy when it is called for to treat the patient. Fills in our office are not just arbitrarily performed i am still a doctor and must take my patients overall health into consideration.
  15. hang in there. all i can tell you is that if i had it to do over again i would do it in a heartbeat. I you have any questions call my patient surgical cordinator, she is the one who scheduled my surgery and she will be able to help your husband put his mind at ease. Her name is Jessica you can reach her at 503-539-3023.
  16. I offer b-12 shots in our office as an option for those who are at a stand still, i do see it work. in fact it has worked for me as well when i have been at a stand still for a period of time. It wont hurt to try it out but of coarse consult your doctor first.
  17. You have brought up some great questions. If you will call my office and leave your name and number i will be glad to return your call and go over in detail why we do what we do and see if we are an office that fits your needs. Just as an FYI I have offered to be a fill Center doctor on more than one occasion and have been told that they want to open there own facility. To bad, as many other people could have the benefit of local fill center without waiting for fill centers to open. call if we can help or answer your questions. i will personally call you back. dr Luke Mayes
  18. i had surgery on a friday and was back at work on the following monday. i had to move slower but i did go back to work. hang in there make sure your boss is understanding so you can take it easier if needed.
  19. i love this quote it is great. i totally agree. i did lap band because of the advantages of not haveing a more evasive surgical proceedure. for a food adict like myself i think this is the best way to go.
  20. is fenton your name cause it is my brothers name. interesting anyway. i am a chiropractor and a fill doctor as well.
  21. actually a huber needle is only angled at the most 15 degrees. it is 90 degrees for access on a subclavian artery port. but not for the lap band. ill see if i can get a picture for everyone.
  22. i do my own fills. I know exactly what to do and have no problem hitting my port and making sure it is adequatly adjusted.
  23. be careful the purpose in the post op diet is so that your stomach can heal after surgery. Make sure you stick to your diet so that you can get the results that you banded yourself for in the first place. it is only a short period of time. so hang in there
  24. what type of band do you have and how much fluid does it hold???? when where you banded???
