  1. Hey all! So just to give you a bit of background, I was sleeved in 2016 and about just under a year ago I started getting horrible heartburn that at one point made me vomit, saw my surgeon and a small hiatus hernia was found. 3 weeks ago on July 12th, I had the surgery to repair this hernia and I’m starting to regret this decision. Recovery has been rough, I have diarrhoea every day which comes on urgently and food is actually coming out the way it went in so it’s not digesting properly. I feel nauseous but can’t throw up or even belch, and about a week ago my heart burn has returned. I’m trying to google to find out if this is a normal part of recovery for hiatus hernia surgery but am not finding much info. Has anyone experienced anything like this if they have had hiatus hernia surgery after being sleeved? I’m getting worried. And yes I’ve contacted my dr multiple times, the last time he said for me to progress to solid foods to see if it helps with the diarrhoea and to just give it time, but it’s not just the diarrhoea it’s how sick it’s making me feel. I’ve given up dairy, I’m not sure what else to do?

    Food/Drink gets "stuck"

Hi! How did everything go? I’m going through the same thing currently… did the food end up passing through?

    Hiatal Hernia AFTER RNY

Hi! Can you let me know what you mean by more challenging than rny? What did you experience after having the hiatal hernia repair surgery? I’m currently 3 weeks out from having my hernia repair surgery and I’m not doing too well
  4. Hi! i was wondering if anyone has experienced dumping syndrome? I’ve heard there are 2 types, early or late... if anyone experiences the late one can I know what you do to get through an ‘episode’ ? If you have the early type can I also know about any experiences and how you get through it?
  5. Not the ascitis but the IBS yes! Ever since I got the sleeve, it’s horrible and some days can’t leave the house...
  6. No.. I’ve not heard of this! What is it?
  7. Hi! I’m feeling very similar to what you have described... what IBS symptoms are you having?
  8. Has anyone had an iron infusion? How did it go? The iron tablets make me super constipated and the liquid makes me nauseas so thinking of going for the injection... but being me, I googled and read some pretty nasty horror stories lol
  9. After having some yucky symptoms the past few months, I had a gastroscopy done and the results have come back that I have a hiatus hernia and mid gastric body stenosis... no GERD like I thought I might have. My surgeon who did my sleeve can’t see me until January so I don’t know what the treatment for these are and won’t know until I see him so just curious if others have had anything like this and what did you need to do about it?

    Anastomotic Stenosis (Stricture)

Hi! How are you going now with the stricture? I’ve just been diagnosed with one through my gastroenterologist but have to wait until January to see my surgeon who done my sleeve to see what he wants to do about it...
  11. Hi! I’m 4 years out and am curious what others eat in a day who are around the same amount of time out from surgery? I still can only fit around a cup of food per meal and I eat every 2-4 hours otherwise I feel a bit off... I think calorie wise I’m around the 1400-1600 mark, I’m also trying to grow some muscles so I don’t want to eat much less then that but I definitely don’t hurt myself either and some days I find my sleeve is tighter and doesn’t fit a lot and some days I can go back for seconds lol
  12. Hi! So I’m due for my colonoscopy/endoscopy on Monday to see if I have gerd or a hernia or something else that’s causing all my issues and I need to prep for it from 2 days before... I’ve noticed that since I’ve been sleeved, I’m so much more sensitive to medication and my stomach is so much weaker then it was before so im not looking forward to this.... I was wondering if anyone else who has had wls and has had a colonoscopy how did you go with the prep?
  13. Hey! How are you feeling now? I’m going through something similar and it’s horrible!

    Hate bypass

That sounds awful! Is this every time you eat or only if you over eat?
  15. For 3.5 years.... about 5 months after I got the sleeve surgery. It’s every day for me and I’m seriously exhausted from it... I used to be so outgoing and social but now it’s like I can’t think straight, my mind just feels a bit out of it if that makes sense... I just want to stay home because I’m worried something is going to happen to me like I’m going to collapse or fall over or something when I’m out... I feel sometimes off balance or like I’m swaying... and I struggle to focus because like you said I just feel absent... it’s weird and hard to explain but I just feel off... and because of this I now have anxiety but it’s not the other way around where I have anxiety and it’s causing these symptoms, I have these symptoms and that gives me anxiety!
  16. Let me know how you go with the nutrition regimen... I have seen 5 dietitians and no improvement yet but apart from that, no I haven’t because every time I go to the doctor all the tests they do come back fine apart from my iron is low but they never mention that low iron could cause all this...
  17. This sounds so much like what i go through!

    Re-sleeve to Bypas

Hey! Is bypass the only option if you have a hernia?
  19. Kikikiki

    Re-sleeve to Bypas

I might be a band to sleeve to bypass soon lol I had the band in 2015, that just did nothing for me, 2016 got the sleeve and now I’m struggling big time with GERD symptoms and my surgeon said that he needs to look inside and if it is in fact GERD and not a hernia causing these symptoms then bypass is my only option!

    Hate bypass

Hi! What do you mean you no longer get the full sensation like with the sleeve? I’m currently sleeved but might possibly need revision to bypass due to gerd... what do you feel now with the bypass when you eat, apart from what you mentioned, does it feel a lot different? Do you get dumping syndrome?
  21. Hi! I’m very similar to you, since my surgery I have had so many health issues and the way you describe not feeling ‘present’ is exactly how I would describe how I feel... I’ve seen doctor after doctor, had blood test after blood test and in the end they said I have mental health issues - mind you, all this has happened since my surgery. Sometimes I find it so hard to explain how I feel but I just don’t feel ok if that makes sense... my mind feels foggy and heavy, I feel like if someone touches me softly I’ll fall over like I’m swaying on a tight rope kind of feeling... my chest is often tight and heavy like I’m constantly panicking...
  22. I wouldn’t purposely try to stretch your stomach, your still quiet fresh being only 4 months out from surgery. I can tell you from my experience that as the years pass your restriction may ease up... it did with me - not a whole lot more but I’m finding it more comfortable to eat the way I did before surgery... depending on your goal that may be a problem and could lead to weight regain bit if your saying that you need the extra calories then should be ok for you? Listen to your body, if your sick or hurt from eating, then stop, don’t force it... you can always just add high calorie foods into your diet to help raise your calories without stretching your stomach? Peanut butter, nuts, full fat dairy, meat.. there’s a lot more options I just can’t think of any at the top of my head... Have you spoke to your dietitian about this, maybe they can help get a plan together for you? Are you at your goal weight? Are you trying to build muscle is that why you need to eat more?
  23. Hey! So I’m 4 years post op with gastric sleeve and I’ve just recently fallen ill... my symptoms are constant and not easing up with any medication. After GP appointments, specialists appointment and even a trip to the emergency department I finally decided to call my surgeon who thinks it may be a hiatal hernia or GERD. He said if it’s the hernia he can repair and if it’s GERD you will need to go ahead with the bypass... is this true?? I’m 163cm tall and 57kgs... I really really realllllly don’t want to get the bypass but I’m feeling so sick daily... has anyone experienced GERD after the sleeve??
  24. Wow! That must have been tough! It’s been a month so far for me and it’s sent me into a deep depression with how awful it’s made me feel! I am taking PPI and antacids every day but just not getting much relief.... I find I have flare ups I guess you could say where some days it’s so bad I’m on the lounge all day barely moving then other days it’s still there but I’m ok enough to get things done if that makes sense... I have been watching my diet more now and working with a dietitian but no relief from that either... were your symptoms constant and daily, or did they only happen every now and then over those years you were suffering?
  25. I have my appointment next month so the surgeon can see what’s happening inside... I’m scared. You suffered with your GERD for a few years didn’t you? It’s been a month for me and it’s making me feel awful daily
