  1. I had RNY gastric bypass in august 2020. It’s true what they say, that wls is just a tool and you’re still going to have to work hard to get to your goals! But I’m super surprised that my hunger levels don’t seem to have changed very much. I feel hungry every couple hours, when I was hoping to be one of those people who didn’t think about food very often. My weight loss has slowed because of this, so I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this and has any tips. Thanks!
  2. I had gastric bypass 3 months ago. I had really hoped to be the kind of person who never felt hungry, and could go half the day without remembering to eat. That hasn’t been the case. I’m hungry every couple hours, and on top of that, I don’t always feel my restriction when I’m eating. Sometimes, I’ll eat 3 bites of something and know I have to stop. I wish that happened more often, because other times I don’t feel it at all. For example, I just ate almost a whole bag of popcorn, and I feel just fine. Physically, not mentally. Mentally I’m feeling mad at myself for doing that instead of eating some chicken. Mentally, I’m worrying that the way I was in the past is going to win out and my surgery will be a failure. I’m terrified that my “last resort” won’t get me where I want to be. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or any tips. I do know I should be sticking to a Bariatric diet, and I’m working on that. Just had a moment of weakness.

    Nutrisystem post-op?

Hi there! I’m a little over 2 months post-op (RNY) and figuring out what to eat and how much to eat is still a learning process. I had done nutrisystem in the past before my surgery, but never loved it because I felt the portions were too small and it was expensive having to buy that stuff and everything else to supplement it from the store. But now, I’m wondering if those portions might be perfect, and I wouldn’t have to spend much money at all at the store to supplement the packaged food. I know I’d need to make sure I’m still getting enough protein in, but I’m curious... anyone further post-op than me tried to follow the nutrisystem program?
  4. I’m just about a month out and have been given the green light to start testing out solid foods within reason. I was feeling really good during the liquid portion, keeping down every protein shake, not throwing up at all... basically could not wait to have solid foods again. But now, I feel sick all the time. I’m never in the mood for any food or drink, nothing ever sounds good. Things that worked well at the beginning (yogurt, canned chicken) make me feel gross now. When I eat, I almost always feel discomfort. I’m pretty sure I’m dehydrated and wouldn’t be surprised if I had low iron or something else. How about anyone else? Did you have swings like this, and how long did they last?
  5. Thanks everyone! I just ordered some Bariatric Advantage chewies
  6. Anyone have a recommendation for a decent calcium citrate supplement? The tablets are usually huge and make me really uncomfortable post op. I got some Caltrate fruity chewables, but they’re basically like Tums except they have this insane bitter aftertaste that makes everything I eat or drink afterwards taste gross too. They’ve become one of the worst parts of my day lol.
  7. I’m 4 weeks post op and today was the first time I really felt bad for myself about not being able to have something I wanted. I had a party for one of my best friends yesterday because it was his last day at our job, and I made some of his favorites. BBQ ribs, banana pudding. During the party itself I was okay really, I just enjoyed my friends and didn’t focus too much on food. Today stunk though. I had almost a full rack of ribs leftover in the fridge, and decided I would have just 2 ribs for dinner. But it obviously didn’t sit that well and I abandoned my plan feeling sorry for myself, thinking “why can’t I just eat like a normal person? Why does it have to be one extreme or the other?” I know I made this choice for a reason. I chose to live with a restriction for the rest of my life rather than feeling trapped in an unhealthy body for the rest of my life. And most of the time I’m just fine with that. Today was an exception rather than the rule. Does that get better with time? Like if 6 months down the road I want 2 ribs, I’ll actually be able to eat them? Or is it time to just start gettin used to my new normal?
  8. I had the same sensation, the irrational part of me thinking “they just cut into my stomach but didn’t actually do anything!” But they did the bypass of course. I’m 3 weeks out and weirdly it took me about 2 weeks before I started not feeling like I could drink normally. I wonder if it has something to do with nerves that need to heal after surgery

    Meal Kit Services

Does anyone get a meal kit delivered that you would recommend? I’m really interested but there are now so many options out there it’s hard to weed through them all! Ideally it would be something reasonably priced that has good nutrition options and meals that can be portioned down easily for post op. Thanks!
  10. Hi y’all, I’m 1-week post op and feeling pretty decent! I do know that I’m super early to be analyzing the scale, but I was curious if anyone who has had the surgery remembers what their weight loss was like the first week, 2 weeks, or month? I’m still feeling all bloaty and not like I’ve dropped any weight. Not panicking or anything, just curious about what’s normal. Thanks!

Recent RNY - How ya doing?

Hi! I just had RNY on August 4, and I’m doing really well. I didn’t get my weight on surgery day, but I’m down about 15 pounds from the beginning of August. I feel awesome, no nausea, really lucky. Are you thinking about getting the surgery?
  12. I’ve just started eating soft solids. Got down a whole 90 calorie string cheese, no problem. So far, I have not felt any nausea, but no fullness either. What’s that about? Everyone seems to have the experience of being stuffed after two bites, but I still haven’t felt that at all. I keep down protein shakes and all my other liquids no problem. Part of me is like “well thats because I follow all the rules! I take small bites, chew very thoroughly, and eat slowly.” The other part is like “yeah, but you should still feel full. It’s because they didn’t actually do the gastric bypass, they just opened you up and forgot to do it.” Any thoughts? And yes, I know they did my surgery.
  13. So I recently had gastric bypass and I’m recovering well. I haven’t been nauseous at all, one of the lucky ones. I haven’t felt hungry, but also haven’t felt full (still on liquids). But, I still have the drive to eat. I don’t think it’s necessarily emotional eating, because I’m feeling pretty stable and good right now. I just like food, and enjoy eating. It’s almost like I lost a hobby. I haven’t given in or anything, and it’s really not that bad. I’m trying to focus on my other interests, and I’m guessing that this will level out over time. But I’m curious, anyone else deal with something like this? Any tips?
  14. If you’re not eating low carb now, I’d suggest trying keto. I usually drop 5-6 pounds in my first week because of the water weight

    Post-op Pain/Incisions

I got gastric bypass - 6 incisions. Every day the pain got better. At day 8 I felt like I truly hit a turning point and felt almost normal. Not coincidentally, that was the day after I started getting my protein in

    Am I drinking too much

I was wondering this same thing! I’ve heard people have trouble getting down like premier protein or something, but I can drink it no problem. So all I’m doing right now is just making sure I’m paying attention to how much I drink that has calories vs doesn’t

    Overcoming post-surgical depression

Girl go to your doctor! Antidepressants can be miracles, I know from experience. And they’re not addictive, you don’t have to be on them permanently. Don’t suffer when there’s something out there that is safe and can help you.

    Pain after surgery

I had my surgery on the same day as you! And I actually called the hospital in the middle of the night the other day because of intense pain on the right side of my belly button. The doctor said it’s normal that once you get home and are doing more and are in less pain meds, that the pain get worse for a bit. Have you incorporated any protein drinks yet? I just started on Protein2O the other day, and Premier Protein yesterday. I feel like it’s speeding up the healing process already. Feel better soon!

    Abnormal EKG?! :-(

I'm scheduled to have gastric bypass on August 4th, and so I'm finishing the pre-op testing. My EKG came back abnormal. Possible left atrial enlargement, and borderline arrhythmia. They want me to go see my PCP to clear me for surgery, and my appointment with him is on Monday. But now I'm freaking out! Firstly, is there something wrong with my heart?? But mostly, is this going to tell me I can't have the surgery? I have been working towards it and looking forward to it for so long now. I mean, I think that he'll approve me, considering I don't have any history of heart problems... But I also don't know how he feels about bariatric surgery in general. I've just been going to the surgeon's office for all my tests an appointments because it's easier. Anyone have this problem in the past?
