    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Howdy everyone, hope all the July gang are doing well. I too have learned not to eat more than 4oz at a time and absolutely no sugar or dumping will be in your future. I am 13 weeks post op and down 72 lbs since preop. I have not felt this great in a long long time. Y'all keep smiling and keep your eye on the prize.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Well today is hospital release day, I had a horrible day yesterday due to nurse mixup. They have me a juice cup with apple juice that had sugar. I took one sip and knew this was wrong. Within 20 minutes I had dumping Syndrome. 5 hours of running to toilet and shivers. Good lesson to learn. Feel great today. Still bloated but feeling fine. Keep smiling you are worth it.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Well surgery was yesterday now. Gas pain manageable. My nervousness has turn to excitement for the future. Time to put me first. Keep smiling everyone, you are worth the effort.
  7. Well surgery went well, gas pain is manageable. Getting excited about my future. Trying to fall asleep on 1st night, with a smile on my face is proving difficult. Just so very happy I made this commitment. Keep smiling and know you are worth it.

Home now, doing much better in my own bed. Had one terrible day in the hospital when I was given a juice by either a student nurse or cna. The juice had sugar in it and after one sip, I stopped and told the nurse on duty. She apologized but within 30 minutes I was running to the restroom, I got chills, severe cramps. After 5 hours and 9 times to the toilet, it started to recede. I learned a valuable lesson and I will absolutely make sure I look at every label and watch exactly what I eat. I don't want that ever to happen again. Other than that I am doing great. I am able to drink my 64 oz of fluids a day on day 5 post op, so excited to switching to thicker fluids. Keep y'all posted.

It really isn't that bad at all. What i will say is you may feel some nausea after you wake up and when you get to your room and a bit of pressure in your abdominal area. Try the over the counter stuff they give (I think it was GASX) and something else they give for nausea. Get up as fast as you can unless you are sick or something but try to go for a walk and continue to do so every hour. If you still pressure and nausea, ask the nurse to call your doctor and see if they can recommend something stronger for both. That was a lifesaver for me. Other than that I have been very happy with this whole process so far. I am out three weeks now. FOLLOW EVERYTHING THEY TELL YOU TO DO, I have. God Bless you on your new journey.

Well no nausea, and the gas pains started after doing exhalation exercises. So I was able to start walking around about 5 hours after surgery. Can’t wait till drain is pulled out, so I can dress in my clothes. My nervousness has now turned into excitement of obtaining my goals. Maybe why I am having trouble falling asleep. Good luck to all. Keep smiling you are worth the effort is my motto.

  10. My Surgery is on the 15th, I have only told one person. Maybe later I might share, but this is my journey and I do not like sharing my success with anybody. I might later, but not now.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I have completely gone to decaf, but thanks for the idea about the shake as creamer. Great idea. Just had my first cup. Fantastic. My surgery next week. Let the journey begin
  12. After discussing it with Doc, I am getting the bypass surgery, no reflux issues.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I heard of all the cancellations and got worried, but have been assured by my surgeon that I am good to go. He stated he was fixing a hernia at the same time as the Gastric Bypass, so I won't be cancelled. 11 more days till surgery, getting excited to start this journey. The Pre-Op is not so bad when I think about it one day at a time and make the decision everyday to stay on track. Good luck to all. Keep Smiling.
  15. I am newly retired and was a single dad. My kids have graduated from college and the last one moved out in March. I then realized that my weight is preventing me from enjoying the empty nest. I have not told a soul about the surgery, family or friends. I am not sure if I want to share with them yet. I was wondering how y'all approached that decision. Did anyone do the same as me so far. I kind of think I want to keep this mine and my own achievement.

To tell or not to tell

Thanks. I have now told one person and they were super supportive and only asked what I needed to help through the journey. Looking forward to the surgery. Keep smiling.

To tell or not to tell

Thank you, your post was fantastic, so I did it. I told one person I have known for 30 years, she has seen me through my divorce, offering to babysit many times and always listened when I needed to vent. Well the first thing she said was “good for you, is there anything you need”. If felt like such a weight lifted. Thank you for your post. Keep smiling.

To tell or not to tell

Thanks, that makes sense, I will have to decide when I am ready. I still am very proud of myself for making the commitment. Keep smiling, I surely do thinking of the future.
  20. Great post, I was not so lucky with insurance. I am self pay, but digging into my savings is totally worth it. See ya on the bench, too.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I am lucky that my kids moved out, savings lots. I have just started the process and I don’t start the pre op diet till July 1st and am saving for the added costs of getting the foods listed on my dieticians diet plan. I am just, like you, trying to figure out the diet when I finally make it to solid food again. Keep smiling, you will find a way. I have just started exploring this site and find it very informative so far. So hopefully I will find good alternatives for more expensive items.
  22. Michael2428

To tell or not to tell

I think if asked initially, I will say hernia. I have been alone since getting custody of my kids. Haven’t seen my family in years so when I do, I will just say diet. Now when I visit my kids, then I might have to talk about it. Keep smiling.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

You going the whole enchilada route, good luck. I hope the pre op diet isn’t too bad. Keep smiling.
