I am 24 also and have been married almost 2 years. I had been considering the band just after we got married but for all sorts of reasons it got put on the back burner and I was just banded in July. I too have heard horror stories about how bad the band was and how people wish they had never done it, but I have also heard stories of how it has changed and saved lives. Think of it this way, if you keep gaining the way you have been, where will you be in 20 years? I am very sorry that your family friend is not being supportive of you taking control of your life and improving it. ultimately this is a decision that YOU will make, and you will be the one living with it. LIVING!! Not feeling bad about yourself, not hiding behind weight, but actually going out and living! I have only lost abt 20lbs but I KNOW this is the best decision I have EVER made for my body!! I pray that you will know what is best for yours, but don't let one person dissuade you.

Everyone seems to be doing so well!! Good job all!! I am a v-e-r-y slow loser apparently and am down 20lbs today. Still better than anything I could do without the band!

It is just gas, don't worry it WILL go away. I used gasx dissolveable strips like they were going out of style, they helped me a LOT. Congratz on getting your band!

I was banded in Colorado by Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum. He charges $9950 for the surgery 3 months of post op care and fills, after the 3 months the fills are $15. You might call his office and ask if they could work something out. I know that they usually have people take out loans and yours would be pretty small, then you could make the payments to the loan people. he might do it directly, but I have no idea. here is the link with his website. How bad is the barium to swallow? I'm going to get my next fill this way and want to be prepared for taste texture etc. I've heard that is is really disgusting, and I don't want to gag it all over my Dr.

I just need to talk out my feelings for a few minutes. My hubby has chronic knee problems, they started on his mission. He has had several surgeries to helps, and they did, but only for a little while. He is currently seeing a pain management specialist and is on a time release dose of morphine and takes lortab 4 times a day. He can't do anything but come home and collapse in pain. I try to do all the running around by myself because it is so hard for him to walk a lot. I am also working and taking care of our apartment, so I am very busy. I feel terrible because there is nothing I can do for him! :teeth_smile: All I can do is pray, and I do that a lot. On a particularly bad day this week I made him promise me that when we go to his Orthopedic Dr this week that he will ask about possible knee replacement. I know that it is drastic for a 26yr old to have both knees replaced, but the dr said it would be the only thing to really help, but he wanted to wait until DH was older. I know that the artificial knees usually last only 20yrs and you can have them done twice if you are lucky, but I would rather have him healthy and in less pain now, because technology is always getting better and who knows what they will be able to do in 40 yrs. Now to talk about me, I am feeling kind of depressed because I am not losing quickly at all. It seems to be picking up a bit because I discovered that I had to increase my calories to lose, and have lost 1.5 in a week. Maybe this is what I need. Plus I am really feeling the desire to have children! We have been married for 2 yrs next week and aren't preventing. I know that I would be able to wait if I only knew WHEN!! When will DH be out of pain, when will I lose this burden of weight, when will we be blessed with children? :wink_smile: But I guess that is where the whole enduring to the end thing comes in right? It will all be in the Lord's time, no matter how badly we want it. I just need to be more patient. God knows what is best and I need to trust that he has blessings in store for me that I cannot even comprehend! Thanks for letting me talk out my feelings!

I thought that we should really have a thread to put our non scale victories on. Here's mine. I put on a pair of pants that I had been avoiding before surgery because they were too tight, now they fit very comfortably!! I also have clothes that are too big now!! YAY!! And a pair of pajama pants that I couldn't wear before I wore last night!!

mini- I am counting what the scale said yesterday which would be down .5 for this week I think. Not quite sure... oh well The reason I am not counting to day is because of my FREAKIN' TOM!!! Yeah it's AWESOME!! Plus my bmi has gone down a whole 3 points!

So I finally broke into the 280's today!! FINALLY!!! It's only 289.5 but STILL!!! I think this upping my calories thing and eating when I am hungry is really helping.:rolleyes2::thumbup::drool::thumbup:

So I had an NSV today too. I put on a pair of pants that I have been avoiding because before surgery they were super tight. Well, I put them on and they are comfortable now! YAY!:confused: CONGRATZ BRANDY!!!

the band is meant to be permanent. One gets the band filled in order to lose weight and then unfilled to gain or maintain weight. You shouldn't have to get it removed unless there are complications.

I am younger than you, and besides sleep apnea problems(which were discovered after surgery) I had no other health problems. I am morbidly obese, most definitely. but people with a BMI of 35 can qualify for the lapband. I didn't like the idea of myt insides being rearranged either, so I opted for Lapband. I was self pay and didn't have to fight with insurance companies. I really think that this is the best thing I have ever done for my body. I also tried for a long time to lose weight. i would lose up to 25 but it always came back, and then some. If you are looking at weight loss surgery then Lapband is the least invasive. i was pretty much healed within 2 weeks, but doing normal activities before that. I highly reccomend it! It is changing my life!

Wouldn't it be nice if frostys were the cure for obesity? THough I don't do this all the time, it was VERY nice last night.

Sorry that your experiment didn't go well.:cursing: It seems I am having the opposite problem. Yesterday I said SCREW IT!! and ate when I was hungry, anything I felt like (I actually had a frosty too) So I weigh myself this morning and I have lost a pound. Maybe my body needs more calories. All week I was trying so hard to limit them to 800-1200 and was starving all the time(I need another fill but can't afford one yet :embaressed_smile: ) So i KNOW I went over that yesterday and BAM! I'm down one more. Wish I had known this first thing!

No loss for me this week:crying:

This is an interesting thread. All of my Dad's siblings are obese. One of his brothers has had gastric Bypass and another is considering that or the band. My dad is still overweight, but not as much as he used to be. my mom is overweight for her frame(she was a ballet dancer when she was young and should only weigh around 110). My Brother and both my sisters are also overweight, though my sisters are still under 200 and fighting it hard. I am hoping that all these changes I am making will help my future children to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Where are you from again? I lived in Missouri for a while and corn and soy fields were all around us. I really love the midwest. i miss it a LOT!
