Lactose Intolerance
So I worked out finally today it is dairy giving me abdo pain and wind/gas. So unimpressed. I had maybe 100ml of skimmed milk after not having any for 2 days so I could see what would happen and man, hard bloated upper stomach and pain since about half an hour after the milk. I'm annoyed because I am struggling with food options as it is, and I love cheese. I can't catch a break at the moment, so much crappy stuff going on and I just want to be healed, pain-free and getting on with life. Some moron rang social services on us saying we weren't homeschooling our daughter properly too, so we had them here Monday and again tomorrow to talk to our daughter, so I am feeling rather fed up! Any good lactose-free puree recipes, please. No refried beans thank you please

Advice/opinions wanted
hey I know how hard it is, my youngest brother is getting married next year our other brother is best man and our sister is doing a speech welcoming the bride to the family. Me, the eldest however...nada, zilch, zippo. But I am trying very hard to not make an issue of it and I love the first reply you got, that would really calm things down and hopefully stop her saying anything else to people about you. I know it hurts, just try really hard to remember she is probably stressed about it all too, Good luck I hope you can get your relationship back on track somehow x

Terrified I Won’t Lose Weight
I felt the same and it stems from us trying so many other ways to lose and failing. You literally cannot fit much in and as said above things come back up if you over do it. You'll be fine

Traumatic Aug 12th op
aww thanks, I shall follow you too, you will be able to keep your kidneys too I am sure! Good thing was I lost 16kg in that 2 weeks, see silver linings everywhere haha

Digestive tract extremely slow
Not sure if you get Movicol in the states but it is very gentle doesn't affect electrolyte balance or hydration levels. If you haven't heard of it google the name to see what it is called there. I swear by it for patients as it doesn't cause irritationof the gut like most others. good luck.

Traumatic Aug 12th op
hiya, I'm now in the Uk so had it done here but I went in as an emergency public patient, thank goodness or they would have needed to sell my kidneys to pay for it lol The bruising was just because of fragmin and the meds I was on pre-op, I thought it was cool it looked like snoopy and it looked far worse than it felt! The relief after I had the bypass was HUGE and something like only 0.2% of people has the issue I had.... obviously I am a difficult person lol My surgeon has done zillions of vsg's and I was his first volvulus needing an emergency bypass. So don't worry after reading my story, I have taken one for the team if you look at the % Good luck with your op, you will be fine

Tell me your best vitamin tips with gastric bypass
Anyone here in my county gets put on gummies by the bariatric team so you can just suck them and let them dissolve easily. So weird how it is so different depending on where we are!

I can’t find the right protein shake!!!
They made me sick post op so my dietician said to just have unflavoured and add it to my drinks/food

Horrific GERD related chest pain
Could well be oesophageal spasm which is horrendous and can make you feel like there is pressure at the back of your throat and can burn or just be 9/10 pain if the spasm is strong enough. Something is going on seeing as you have the ongoing hiccups. Hope you get to the bottom of it

Starting a new job. What about Surgery?
I know here in UK that when accepting a position they have to honour any pre booked holidays and certainly surgery. Don't cancel it, it is really important and I bet they will be very understanding.

Help!! I'm failing & I can't get up.
Is this a binge like with Bulimia or is it a binge where you just scoff all the junk food you can and think 'stuff it' because it makes you feel better while you do it? Can you get any help from your bariatric team? Do you get long term help? I get 2 years but know others don't. If not can you organize some counselling for yourself. When the urge to binge starts can you force yourself to go out for a brisk walk or try and do something to distract yourself whether it is arts or house cleaning or running as far away from any food stuff as possible? This is a hard one isn't it because it is all head stuff. Have you got another job or some interviews lined up? Sorry I don't have any decent advice, our brains can be right pains in the neck with this kind of thing!

Period during surgery
It's a non-issue. It will have no impact on surgery whatsoever. It doesn't affect blood counts or anything and is nowhere near or related to your surgery, so all good Just make sure you don't forget to take sanitary items with you. Mine arrived unexpectedly 2 days post-surgery (my 1st one) and I had nothing with me so had to use the ginormous hospital maternity pads They are like a mattress!!

Loosing too much weight
yep even if you just do it for a week so you can see what is going on, then you can work out how to tweak it all so that you can start maintaining
-
Every multi vitamin makes me sick
Def talk to your team, because they are essential. I don't know if you have tried the gummy type ones? You can chew them but I just suck on it until it has dissolved and it is nicely berry flavoured.

Just got the call!
oh BIG Congratulations that is fab exciting news
-
Loosing too much weight
Oh sorry was doing 10 things at once I meant if you increase the calorific value of the food you are eating your weight will start to maintain rather than eating more food and potentially stretching your pouch, which may be a problem later on So even adding a little bit more fat to each meal you eat will bump the calories up
-
Loosing too much weight
Add more calories by eating higher calorie food not more food

Any August 2019 people out there?
32lbs is fabulous! Look how much 30lbs of fat is!!! I feel like you I lost 33lbs during my hospital stay and have lost barely anything since being home for 3 weeks. But just look at that fat compared to the cereal bowl! We need to change our thinking, which is hard because maybe like me you feel like you did on a diet before the op, you'd lose, hit a stall then it'd all go down the drain. BUT we just have to be patient and let our new anatomy do its job
-
is it just me?
haha love these replies! I felt like I was sneaking something naughty, so was standing in the fridge sipping the pickle-less juice that I insisted the husband leave in the fridge for me, sip sip sipping wondering if the dietician would tell me off LOL

Stalls after surgery
I think patience is the key to stalls. I find this incredibly difficult as I have the patience of a gnat.
