  1. Good morning everyone. After months of waiting, I finally received a surgery date 4/16/2020. I would love to chat with anyone having surgery in April. my status: Insurance: changed from a PPO to an *** (due to a new job). I have emblemhealth HIP Prime ***. Began process July 2019: 6 months of checking my weight. BMI 39: mild sleep apnea and hypertension. hospital : Lenox Hill in NY Surgery : RNY but still seriously considering DS. My doc is open to any of them but encouraged me to choose RNY. I have a pre-op class next month 2/20 and must complete pre-op labs during the last week of March 2020. Paperwork to my insurance will be submitted in March 2020. good luck everyone!! I am hoping I get my surgery approved by my insurance as I am looking forward to my new journey
  2. how is everyone doing? ready for surgery?
  3. Yes and I left the practice lol. Actually, I was never told my surgeon only does vsg. I found out after a Bariatric class...my new surgery group are pro ds and sips. I will speak to your doctor and let them know what you want!
  4. Hi Krimson. I agree. I thought the same thing as well. Working out and getting ready. It isn’t silly at all. I think is great. Yesss we can be surgery buddies. I am thinking I will have a January date as well and I am okay with that for sure. Where are you in the process ?
  5. I agree with you 1000 percent. Studies have shown it downs really mean much.
  6. ahh good luck everyone, my path totally changed with my new bariatric group. I wont be joining the September team. Perhaps, I will be a December snowboarder or a January change your life high roller... No matter what the insurance protocols are, my doctor demands a 6 month weight in. Thus far I have 2 months under my belt. I wont be able to have my final surgery date until November, than I have to have labs done 30 days prior to surgery. I must say, I was disappointing at first but the group at Lenox Hill (NYC) hospital offers a lot of support and state that they do not want to see patients fail. I didn't have this support with my last surgery, need all the help i can get. Also I am scheduled for a host of new exams my 2nd surgeon didn't care for. Also I had to sign a document re: you will not receive a surgery date until all preop is completed! lol To do list: Pulmonary test--Friday, August 23, 2019 1:15 PM EDT Sleep Apnea consultation-Wednesday, July 24, 2019 1:15 PM Upper GI ----- August 26th 8am Nutritional class August 13th 1130am Nutritional one on one August 21st 1pm Completed testing: Abdominal ultrasound, psych clearance, endoscopy, echogram, PCP clearance and initial Blood work,
  7. Morning team! Going in for my endoscopy today. Ahhh finally wanting to know if my pouch stretched which I am sure it has! It’s been 11 years since my last Bariatric surgery. Also suffer from bad heartburn. I’ll keep y’all posted once I have my results. Spoke to the patient coordinator yesterday, my echogram results have not yet been reviewed. Ahhh. Hopefully it is done this week.
  8. Agreed! I have GERD and was told stay away from the sleeve. Look into this site lots of people get their sleeve revised to bypass due to acid reflux. I left my first surgeon’s office because of this. He only does sleeves and I quickly left lol
  9. Good luck everyone! I am due for my endoscopy this coming Tuesday yahoo. Completed most of my pre-ops. I have an appt with the nutritionist on the 30th of July and than I will meet surgeon Number 2. I also have my first consultation with my 3rd surgeon just to obtain his opinion and see if I opt to do my surgery through northwell/Lenox hill. September is also my bday month and would love for this to be a gift to myself!! Since I’ve paid so much money on copayments lol
  10. @thillman1987 you can do it? Are you trying anytime re: patches, SSRI, gum? Good luck. I hear smoking cessation is tough but you got this! @Mikeyy welcome! We shall hopefully all proceed with our surgeries during the best month of the year. I will surely have my last pumpkin latte before surgery lol.
  11. Had my ultrasound today re: check gallbladder and liver. 7/9 cardio 7/10 pcp medical clearance 7/13 psych 7/16 afternoon consultation with 3rd surgeon. First surgeon consultation sucked. Their website is misleading the doc I was scheduled to see only does sleeves and “we can also use a second option such as weight loss medication”. I was in his office for 5 minutes and seemed like he wasn’t interested in what I had to say. Later in the week I found out about him only doing sleeves via web seminar. I cancelled all my follow ups with him. Second surgeon I like but I don’t love (they are pushing me to do a bypass) and we shall see about the third surgeon. Third surgeon did my cousin’s lapband to RNY revision. She loves him! anyways just sharing my experience. I think is important to do your research and not just jump into something. I am all about vibes and being heard. 7/16 endoscopy during the morning. Still waiting for my second surgeon’s office to schedule my nutritionist appointment. If I don’t hear back by tomorrow. I’ll call Wednesday. i should be done with all my preop appointments by 7/20. Praying my insurance approves and I get to confirm my September date.
  12. Hi LMays!!! that great!! How are you feeling?
  13. great job curly!! you are almost there!!. I hear good things about metro plus and their process. I have emblem health through my job and the doctors are not up to date with the new requirements. https://www.emblemhealth.com/~/media/Files/PDF/_med_guidelines/MG_Bariatric_SX_c.pdf here is the link if anyone has emblem health and would like to see the new medical policies.
  14. Hi Frustr! I had a transoral bariatric surgery in 2009 that wasn't approved by FDA, as it was not working as they thought it would. I lost 100 lbs on my own! Working out and cutting out all the fried food i used to love and working out 6x a week. I was taking about 30k steps per day. Walking everywhere all the time. I maintained my weight loss for about 6 years....began fertility treatment which contribute to lots of weight gain, became pregnant and have struggled since, gained back almost all of my weight. HW 291=8, lowest 162, currently 250. Stopped working out, which doesn't help. i am doing revision to a surgery that gave me zero restriction. I am currently debating on going back to my original surgeon or a new one. I have a scheduled appointment with a new surgeon for consultation. Very excited to see him. Hope that helps! my surgeon suggest i do the bypass and i suggested he takes my suggestion of DS lol, which he agreed lol. The second surgeon is well known for DS and SIPS, so I am certain he will agree as well.
  15. good luck! i am also from nyc, debating between NYP/Columbia and Lenox Hill. I am doing all my preops in a few weeks. Endoscopy, cardio; stomach scan (gall bladder). I have a psych in a few days. i have Emblemhealth, requirements change, 6 months supervised weight loss is not longer needed! what insurance do you all have? best wishes with everything!
  16. Does anyone have a September date? I am hopeful to have surgery in September. Revision from an experimental transoral surgery to DS.
  17. That’s awesome! Congrats. May I ask, what insurance do you have ? I’m going for revision. I have emblem. They changed their recruitments last August to no longer needing a 6/7 month medically monitored weight loss “program”. My docs office were dumbfounded. I sent them the new policy which is easily found online via the provider policies. I had to forward them the info. Confirmed this via insurance advocate 3x. So annoying. I have all my appointments scheduled for the next few weeks. Hoping all goes well.
