  1. this is very unfortunate, and I am saddened for her family.Strep/Staph infections are very common after surgery. These bacterias can live on the skin causing no symptoms at all but as soon as they find an opening of the skin they can be deadly. The elderly and diabetics are most at risk as their systems are weaker and they have a harder time fighting the infection.Staph has been on the rise for years in hospitals due to the fact they have become resistant to the antibiotics. The best way to keep down the risk is if you have open wounds keep them covered and keep them clean, bath often, wash your hands alot and be sure the kids do too.If you have redness, swelling of the wound area seek help right away.If you get nausea and or diarrhea seek help. But to assume it was her fault or the doctors fault, or even the lap band is at fault is wrong. No surgery no matter how minor is without risk ever. But I am sure the coroner and the lawyers will find someone to blame.
  2. Well my Doc always pulls out the Fluid in the band to see how much is in there first so he can see if I have a leak before refilling the band that is how he knows he is in the right spot.Myself I can feel the fluid in my chest I know it sounds funny but most of the time I feel it tighten in my chest.Saline is a salty Water so if he missed I would think it would kinda sting like salt in a would.
  3. I could be wrong but I think your band is center of your rib cage,to the right would be your gallbladder and liver.I had some pain there once to and I noticed my gallbladder was kinda hard too,but it pasted. If it dont pass and gets more sore or painful I would ask my PC because many lose their Gallbladder after Lap Band.
  4. here is a salad dressing recipe or try this one,[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSoddptWL0s]YouTube - Flaxseed Oil & Cottage cheese Recipe www.budwigvideos.com[/ame]
  5. the smaller band is for those with a low BMI or has a smaller stomach with less fat in the midsection .
  6. If you are losing and you are happy with that weight loss then you are where you need to be,what you do not want is to be so tight you can not get in the calories you need. When you stop losing then you need a fill or you get hungry a couple hours after you eat then you need a fill.
  7. I have 5cc's in a 10cc band and feel good restriction for now,I hope it lasts awhile as next month being Christmas I really don't want to get a fill during the holiday.
  8. I now have 5cc's in the 10cc VG Band and I have good restriction for me at this stage in my weight loss.My doc tried 6 cc's and I was closed completely.
  9. I loved Coke cola still do just can not drink it,I was still taking a few sips here and there until I got restriction now it just causes pain so I am over it not even a sip for me.I mean after all even a rat understands pain.
  10. I know how frustrating it is waiting for restriction. It took until my fourth fill to start to feel my band again after the swelling went down from surgery.I gained and lost the same two pounds for a month, followed by another month of no loss but I didn't gain only because I was determined to fake it till you make it. My doctor reminded me that the average weight loss was a pound a week so at the end of a year I was only expected to lose 50 pounds so at this point I was ahead of the game and I just needed to work on portion size and chewing.I was also told to drink as much Water as I could to help me stay full and to keep the fat well hydrated and I would feel more restriction .At last I have found restriction again and lost 4.5 pounds last month so I hope I am on way down again.Just try to stay focused and keep going back for fills until you get where you need to be.Doctors are cautious because they do not want to over fill you and maybe cause harm to you or your band. There is no magic formula as to how much fill we need as we are all different and what works for you may be too much for me.Good luck and hang in there your day will come and you will start losing weight, you didn't get fat in a few months and you cant expect to get thin in a few months.
  11. when you are able to eat real food "do it" and stay away from the mushy stuff that goes down easy.It is easy to set up a pattern of eating around the band by eating what goes down easy.If you stick with whole foods you will get full faster you just have to take small bites and chew it well.
  12. I had great restriction right after surgery, but as the swelling went down so did the restriction..
  13. No I have not but it sounds great,as to it working the same I suppose if the dose is the same it would.I take 4000mg a day broke into two in the am and two in the pm.
  14. flaxseed oil is what did the trick for me.I went through a whole month of fighting and was not losing weight.I woke up day in major pain,I mean my gut hurt really bad.Now I add flaxseed oil capsules 2 in the morning and two at night no more issues and it is said to help you lose weight.
  15. Has alot to do with who is giving the fill and how sure they are. When Dr.Wizeman gives my fill it don't hurt and he does it so fast its over as soon as he starts. Now when his student doctor gives me a fill it does hurt as he is not as sure of himself and he is slow to stick the needle in and I fill it.So has alot to do with the person and the fill doctor.
  16. Hello everybody from Pompano Beach,Fl. any Broward County folks around give me a shout out.
  17. wow just came across this thread and thought I would weight in with the rest of you guys.I had no pre-op diet, fills have been slow to restriction but finally feeling some help and another fill on Friday.I just came through a month of no lose in September but I have lost 6 pounds after my Oct. fill so I hope I am on the way down again.
  18. He may not be able to pull it back because the tube is kinked, but if you can not eat or drink at all he has to get it out even if surgery is the only option. As to the fill amount I have 4.5 and only tight in the am at night I can eat alot,A 10 cc band holds 10cc's a 10cm band holds 4cc they are not the same band.
  19. you know maybe I am outta place to say this but that would be copyright infringement to say the least. No different than stealing music. You are misinformed to think you have to sell it for it to be a crime.
  20. Apples I see you lost 111 pounds in 4months how did you do that?
  21. 2 oz of pasta and a piece of chocolate don't sound like you blew it.Maybe you should have had liquids but if you had no problems with what you ate then you are fine. This is not a diet it is a lifestyle so pasta and chocolate are a never thing just an occasional treat .
  22. Here is a link to a video by a nutritionist talking about Protein call Protein 101 and she said we divide our weight in half and take away 10 and that is how much protein we need. Protein 101: How much do you need? - Health - MSNBC.com
  23. Nothing worse than a surgeon with a god complex, the first thing I would do is make him feel stupid really I would.I would bring in all the info I could find on Lap Band and then ask him how many he had done and what was his success rate with his patients. Now if your fills are free with him just know they want be free any where else you go.Granted that is something I would have asked before he done my surgery. Then I would make sure he knew I was gonna keep coming back until I reached restriction because I did not go through all this to do it all on my own with no help from my band and if he did not like to do fills I would suggest he just get it done.I know by now he will be pissed off but maybe a good ass kicken will be just what he needs. If that dont work ask him to refer you to a doctor who has the stomach for the job.
  24. My tummy was lopsided too ,but it did go away i don't know how long it took as I didn't dwell on it and you shouldn't either. As with any surgery it takes time to heal
  25. It depends on alot, what was your start weight, what size band do you have?I would just be guessing you have the oh so large APL holds about 12-14cc I think, if so that is not alot for first fill.Even so restriction has to be done gradually so you do not get alot of swelling and possiably hurt yourself with an over fill.I know in the VG that is what I have they say it takes 3.5cc's just to fill the band and the tube.I just got my fourth fill that brought me to 4.5 yesterday and I am happy for the first time ,I fill restriction ,I only eat a few bites and I am full.So hang in there your day will come too.
