A skiny woman followed me into the ladies room yesterday.....
Awesome, sometimes it is hard to really 'see' ourselves, then one day, in a window or mirror, and we are shocked. I am happy for you.

DR Wai leung
I was banded by the good Dr. Leung 5 weeks ago. If you have any questions, let me know. He is pretty old school, requires a clear liquid fast for 30-35 days. He is a no nonsense kind of guy. Not the best bedside manner, but many of us respect his work and feel good about our choice. Paula 5 weeks out and down 30 pounds.

No "crunches"?
Hey, my surgeon said no crunches for life. hahaha, instead he suggested leaning on the edge of a chair and bringing your legs up. My bandser buddy just told me that last week. BUT, I know of at lease one bandster on this site who does dozens and dozens of crunches. So I wonder why my surgeon would say that. I guess all surgeons are as different as we are.

I may finally have good restriction
I am jealous. I had 1.65 put in my very first fill last Monday and I KNOW it isn't enough. I will give it one more week, then I am phoning and driving 4 hours each way for a second fill. I WISH I had good restriction. Good for you. I think I will need over 2.0 for a good restriction.

Does anyone have regrets?
Only 5 weeks out and nope, no regrets. And I agree, I wish I had done it sooner.

Liquid stage: how many oz. is your protein drink?
Hey, my crazy doctor required me to do a 30-35 clear liquid fast. He gave us instructions to have home made broth during meal times and Water or other sugarless drinks the rest of the day. It was HELL. But I did manage to do it for 24 days. I had a liquid support thread, it is still here somewhere. Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you. I did it, I am happy with my results. I came here to whine and complain some days and cry others. There was awesome support here, from other liquid fasters and some who weren't fasting. My doctor also said not to worry about Protein drinks because our body would provide. I have to say he was right. We have these stores of fat for just such times of little food. Good luck with your journey. hugs

July 2006 Band Crew
Thanks Beth. I will give it a week or 2 and then book an appointment. I want to lose some weight. If I can lost 2 pounds a week, then I am pretty happy, but if I maintain this week then I will make an appointment. It is just a drag as it is a 4-5 hour drive for me, each way. If I had known, I'd have asked for a larger fill. Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks dezadoo, you are absolutely right. When my last principal asked me when I was going back to work I told her that these 3 kids keep me busier than 28 grade 7's ever did. OK friends, I am worried about something. I got my first fill last week 1.65 and for a few days I was having a terrible time. Now I think I can eat too much. My doctor says, stick with 1/2 cup of food. Well, I am sure I am eating twice that. Should I go for another fill? I just want to eat and eat.

Open vs Closet Bander Questions
I am a closet bandster. I have told my dh and 3 friends. My parents are both gone. I have 3 young kids who I chose not to tell. I just don't want to open up my guts to display. I will tell people on an 'as needs' basis. I am not trying to be deceptive, just I feel my business is my business. My dear banded friend tells EVERYONE. She is an extrovert, I am an introvert. Whatever works for one's lifestyle I say.

You are absolutely right Kari. I am a teacher, not working currently home with my 3 kids, but my body gets hungry at recess and after school. lol! The only snack I NEED to stop is the night time eating. Yes, I am trying to ride the wave, but it is hard going from 3 weeks PLUS clear liquid diet to solids. I think I am getting the hang of it, but it is taking a while. I almost think I am needing a tiny fill.

Today marks week 5 for me. My scale never reads the same thing twice, but I am claiming that I am a miniscule under 250. That makes a 31 pound loss in 5 weeks. I KNOW it is slowing down now, so if I can focus on low carb, which is really the only thing that goes down well anyway, and sticking to 3 meals plus 2 or 3 tiny snacks, then my weight loss should be in the 2 pound range per week. My doc says no snacks, but there is no way I can get from noon to 6pm without something. Even a tiny yogurt. Anyway, that is my weekly check in. I read daily, and love to see everyones' progress. Come one losers, report your losses.

July 2006 Band Crew
Friday will mark my 5th week. This week I am learning to eat with a fill. I had very little restriction before this fill, so this is a learning experience for me. Not always a successful one. Anway, will check in Friday with a weigh in. Looks like we are all going in the right direction. eta, finally had a nice meal stay down, chicken wing and a bit of breatmeat, with some dip. Then I had one cracker with assagio cheese.

How long did it take for your fill to loosen up?
A close friend of mine only had 3 fills in 2 years. In that time she lose over 120 pounds. Others I have read here have had 2 fillls in 2 months. I know it varies greatly, but tell me how many fills you have had. I'd like to ready everyone's experience. I just had my first and am learning to eat with it. Thanks in advance.

Working with the band...

Just talked to Amy and had my 2nd fill
Ooo, I just had my first fill and would like to know when you know you need a second fill. Is it when your weight slows down, or when you can eat too much? Thanks in advance. Continued success.

Working with the band...
Thanks Lucy, I am a busy mom and am used to inhaling my food, usually while standing or multitasking. Once I slowed down, I was able to get my chicken down where it stayed. I feel as full as I used to feel on a huge dinner and really this is nothing short of a miracle. Glad I am not the only one testing and failing, testing and succeeding. Because ya, I was like a cat hacking up a fur ball the last 3 meals. hahahaha! Thanks Also, I didn't get advice from my good doctor to go onto liquids for a few days. I just completed 4 weeks of Clear Liquids and was about finished with that. hahaha, but I will keep that in mind next fill.

Working with the band...
OK, just tried some roasted chicken for supper. I think I am eating too fast and not chewing enough. I just had one bite and then another and that is all I want. Is that normal? lunch over, heading toward supper, planning on broiled cod fish, soft veggies.

Your favorite banded breakfast.....
OK then, just learned that no scrambled eggs for me. Damn, I guess that leaves, cheese, yogurt or nothing.

Food no-no s
Just discovered I can not do scrambled eggs. Which is too bad, I was hoping for egg salad, and well, the egg is just a perfect little protein. Maybe later or a different form from scrambled, or maybe I just didn't chew enough.....shrugs.

Working with the band...
Holy, just got my first fill yesterday and although I really feel like I should know how to do this, for all I read here, I am having some hard learning experiences. First lesson, 1/2 teacup of food. I need to measure because I have overestimated both meals. Chilli, probably ate more than 1/2 cup, much of it came back up. Funny, how it goes down fine, but just doesnt' settle or stay. This morning, I discovered, either I can't do breakfasts or can't do scrambled egg. Came up too. cheese did not come up. So wow, I still have a lot to learn. For lunch, I think I will make some meatballs and soft veggies or something.... Any advice, I'd appreciate. I have a 10CC band and got only 1.65CC my first fill. Here I was wondering if that was enough.

July 2006 Band Crew
I had my first fill yesterday. Haven't had much time to try it out yet. I am looking forward to seeing just how 1/2 teacup feels in my stomach. 1/2 teacup is how my surgeon suggests eating portions. ha! So will see later at luch time how this feels. I hope it feels full, because it is a 4 hour drive plus, to my surgeon's office. cheers all my July bandsters.
