  1. Actually I am not going nuts with it..I have less than a cup and I am not craving it after the fact. Tonight I had a small frozen yogurt and it was fine. There is some Protein in it. I think the most amazing thing for me is that I am NOT hungry now that I started mushies..and the scale started moving again this morning! I did not lose a single pound the four days I was hungry..interesting huh? I actually gained a pound...so now life is good and things are easy. Cindi
  2. I made a delicious concoction this week..actually two iof them One I used SPaghetti sauce (I used one with spinach bits in it) and blended it with some kidney Beans and a smidgeon of cheese...YUMMMM SOrt of like chili Then last night my family had mashed potatos and fish..I put the two items in the blender with some milk then heated in the micro. It was like a fthick fish chowder...YUMMMM Cindi
  3. WOW! The people on her lose big time. I am very pleased with my 10 pounds in 9 days! But I went for four days and didn't lose anything...I do think that I lose more when I get more sleep..sounds weird I know... Anyway...keep up the good work. Cindi
  4. Funny story. I had this silly fear that I would be awake and paralized during surgery and nobody would know. Silly I know. But I told my surgeon. He asked me what horror shows I had been watching. Anyway..the day of suregery I told the anesth nurse...later when the anest. came in he said they were running low on meds so they were going to work quick/. I just gaped..he laughed and said it was a joke! Then my surgeon came in. He said I was his last operation of the day so he would talk to my mom after and then leave. I teased him about not waiting for me to wake up. Then he said he would have them come and get me as soon as he finished his drink (He was drinking gingerale or soda or womthing. I teased him about having "a drink" and he said..yeah..I always have a gin and tonic before surgery to give me the courage to procede! It did make everything a lot lighter! Cindi
  5. well I had a super duper food day...largely due to all of you. I decided to do my best to make some tasty "soups." I started my day with a "mochacino" Protein shake. Then for lunch I made my own Soup concoction....spaghetti sauce with bits of spinach and kidney beans..all blended into a soup consistency! YUMMM' Then for dinner I took some mashed potato and some fish and milk and a sprinkle of cheese, blended together into a cream soup. DELISH! SO anyway..I made it through without any hunger....and no ice cream or any other food I shiould not be indulging in.,... YIPPEE I might actually be getting the hang of this. I have to go away this weekend to a hotel and I think I am just going to make up some of my "soups" in small containers to have if the soup they serve me (I emailed ahead for the conference and said I needed some basic creamed soups) is not appropriate. I love my band! Cindi
  6. May I chime in on the soda thing? I was a HUGE diet soda freak..lots on a daily basis. But I really don't miss it. Ice water, flavored water and crystal lite are much more satisfying. just thought id share. cindi
  7. thanks ladies..i agreee as does my doc..but i am only week 2. did you do ice cream before you had lost your weight? i only do 1/2-3/4 cup and im satisfied..but it is like 150 cal and 2 g protein..i think... cindi
  8. try some hot peppermint tea. that always helps for nausea. hope you feel better soon. cindi
  9. Thanks Michelle...I probably will go back next Monday and see how it goes. Worst case scenario is that I need a day or two during the week..but the fab sub I have has to leave at the end of this week..so I am going to continue to rest up this week and go back next week. The kids know I have a "sore tummy" so I am sure they will be cool....My school has been soosoo supportive. I am going to a union weekend this weekend at a spiffy resort and my union even paid for me to have a private room so I will get some great rest too. Thanks CIndi By the way...fab weight loss for only a short time. Did you struggle at all in the beginning? I have had a bit of a rough start...but I am determined..FAILING IS NOT AN OPTION
  10. Thanks Gail...I actually made a great shake for dinner..coffee.,..ice..splash of milk and choc Protein powder....tasted like a mochacino and filled me up nig ime. I am going to try to have at least two of those tomorrow with soup for a third meal. I think that will keep me satisfied... Cindi
  11. Hi everyone..I am a kindergarten teacher. I can take as much time as I need off...I told them 2-3 weeks...only because my kiddos like to run and hug and it can get a bit physical. Anyway...this is week 2. Only Monday, I know...I slept a lot today..had a fairly busy weekend and felt exhausted. Feeling much better now... Anyway....if I want to take next week I should let them know by mid week... any thoughts for those of you who returned to work too soon? Cindi
  12. I had my surgery a week ago today. I was petrified but decided I needed to be as calm as possible. My blood pressure was lower than ever before that whole time! ANyway...I was pleased when the anesth. nurse said I could wear my ipod in to the OR. That was my blessing. When I woke up they were wheeling me to recovery. My left side really hurt and I remember commenting on it. The hardest part was moving onto the other bed. That hurt a bit..but not earth shattering and not as bad as tooth pain I don't think...I mean it was just a quick..OWWWWWWWW then fine. I drifted in and out of sleep but no crying or nausea or anything like that. A couple hours later I was in my room and having custard. The only hard part was getting out of bed to go to the bathroom. The sitting up part was painful...still is in a small way. But when I went home the next morning I was functioning fine. I slept a LOT the first three days... Anyway..don't be scared. If you have an MP3 player..put on your fav music and use that..it took me to a "PEACEFUL PLACE." Best wishes CIndi
  13. I am scared of this stage. I am a week out and I have been hungry already. However I have discovered, late today, that I am just not drinking enough. It is hard to be hungry with 60 oz of fluids. I will say I have discovered a Protein shake recipe I made up that works great for me. Another thing is that someone said not to blend the shakes because they get too much air..but to just hit and stop in bursts til ice is crushed. Anyway...I out in one cup of ice, a cup of coffee and a scoop of choc protein pwder. A splash of milk is good too...it tastes like a Dunkin DOnuts mochachino....delish..and VERY FILLING. I will be sending positive thoughts into the universe for all of you. the ting that is hard is when people keep saying to HAVE WILLPOWER. SHOOOOOOOTTTTT if weall had willpower we wouldn't have needed to be banded. Cindi
  14. There was a great post on one of the threads and the lady listed her stages and appropriate foods..some mushies folks have talked about are hummas, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, tuna salad blended, fish blended with potatoes or veggies, oatmeal, yogurt... I think if you blended some chicken with light mayo it would make a good smooth chicken salad...I bought a recipe book which has a lot of good ideas... Cindi
  15. NOW I FEEL YUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was banded 5/5 too.....and I have only lost 8-9 pounds. 9 pounds two week preop diet..8-9 pounds now. I guess I better work a bit harder at this. Congrats!!!!! take it and run with it. cindi
  16. how did you eat it? Just plain? curious because I love hummus and I am goign to be able to eat that by the weekend probably. Cindi
  17. May I say that I thought this sounded kind of mean? I am only one week out and if I came here and got that response I would be upset. Every surgeon is different. Like I said..mine had me eating custard when I got to my room from post op. a simple...ahhhhh that sounds a bit heavy ..would have sufficed I think. JMO Cindi
  18. Thanks Laura...ir is my fault. I brought it in the house. Most of he house wouldn't miss it if it was not here. SO I guess I need to make the new rule..no ice cream. What about sf? But I need to be told the facts. I still want to do this but I want to hear the things I want to hear..like the person who said she had ice cream in the beginning... I respect your weight loss..it is impressive and I want to be there. So I need to try harder to avoid the ice cream. UGHHHH This is not easy and I am just getting started. I will say though that I have not been hungry this afternoon..not since my Soup and ice cream, I also need to get moere fluids in. I took a long nap this morning and felt much better but that meant I had nothing to eat or drink until 1 this afternoon. not good. Cindi
  19. I must say that I am an ice cream addict. And a bread addict. Well.I KNOW not to touch bread..but ice cream? well..after the fiasco yesterday with the eggs...ughhhh..so I allowed myself small..and I mean LESS THANK a cup of ice cream.... I need to not do that...and it hasn't happened more than three times..the first time 4 Tb., the second 1/2 c and the third about 3/4 cup. Now truly in some ways ts is a huge accomplishment because in the past I ate at least a pint at a time....probably more... I am trying...but it is a battle. Thanks for listening everyone. I hope I am not sounding too much like a whiner. Cindi banded 5/5
  20. I had my surgery oone week ago today. I lost 9 pounds on preop diet. As of Saturday I had lost 9 pounds since day of surgery. But yesterday the scale went up 1/2 pound..not a huge deal. But today it is up another 1.5 pounds...so that is only 7 in a week..THE FIRST WEEK! Is that normal? I mean I amm not eating very many calories... Probably I am being stupid..I mean I hadn't been able to lose this much before...however..it is the going UP that is bothering me. And I have been hungry since Thursday or Friday as well. Just needed to vent. Thanks for being here everyone. Cindi
  21. Willsmommy...I am in the same boat as you. SHOOTTTT the hospital gave me custard four hours out of surgery..... I was told full liquids and that I would "KNOW" when my body was ready for pureed and mushies....guess wht..it didn't. SO I am going to follow the advice here..it cannot hurt...and stick with full liquids for at least another week or even two. Cindi
  22. My 13 year old son has watched me struggle. He watched me work hard a few years ago and lose 90 pounds..only to gain most of it back. He is very supportive, though is concerned that I may not follow the rules at all times (MY MO) But I told everyone at school. (I am a teacher.) They are all so wonderfully supportive. They sent me flowers and cards and gave me a gift card to the local grocery.... I hate hiding things..guess its the ex Catholic in me..always going to confession! Cindi
  23. WOW things happen quick where you are. The process here in Maine takes 9-14 months! MONTHS...you must first see the social worker..then the nutritionist...then attend a seminar..meet the surgeon...have all other tests (I had to have an endoscopy, colonoscopy, and stress test)...attend a support group meeting....complete a nutrition quiz..THEN they send your stuff over to the surgeons office.... Then you wait (It took almost two months) for office to process through insurance and find a date..which is usually a month away. And they will not process until you give them a $500 deposit (Even though I don't have to pay that much with my insurance.) I was lucky because I knew a lady at the obesity clinic and she gave me cancellation appointments so I started in August and was operated on in May...And that was the FAST TRACK. trust me, you will survive the wait. I think. Cindi
  24. Thanks everyone...as I said...I have some vaque guidelines here...said I should do "mushy food" when I was ready..and this stupid cookbook showed eggs in week 1...so now I know. I think I was too worried about the Protein thing. Man there is a LOT to think about here., I truly did my homework, and like I said, I lost 90 pounds on a pretty restrictive food plan (FAA) a few years ago so I thought this would not be so hard. WRONG~! it is not that it is HARD as much as it is a lot to think about and especially when you are still not feeling real well. I had originally thought I would be on strict liquids for the first two weeks and then the hospital gave me custard three hours out of surgery! Then cream of wheat "gruel" the next morning. SO>...I think , really think, i learned my lesson now. I do NOT want to cause any harm to this precious LAP BAND. So....my plan for tomorrow is... BREAKFAST..protein shake with coffee and choc powder,...tastes like a mochacino... lunch pureed fish chowder..mostly broth and nothing that won't go through the strainer. dinner hmmmmmmmmm I thinkI miight try the ricotta and spaghetti sauce thinned out like a soup....I did have a bit of sauce yesterday and that was good. It had teeny tiny pieces of spinach in it..is that okay? or maybe I will just make cream of potato soup....YEAH...I think I;ll go with the soup...save the ricotta for later in the week. If I am still hungry mid day or mid morning I will have a pudding or custard cup. Does all that sound reasonable??? CIndi
  25. thanks Julie...I feel so dumb..and so scared I am doing damage. I am going to vow at this point to not TRY anything new other than soups and other "LIQUID" food until at least next weekend.... Would I know if I had done any damage? or does it take something pretty major and not three bites of scrambled egg? Cindi
