    Fenton vs. PRCowboy Challenge

Weekends are killing me. I was doing great all week. I still ended up down a pound, but it should have been better. How did everyone else do?

    Fenton vs. PRCowboy Challenge

Welcome back Fenton. As you probably already found out, a couple weeks ago I had a bad week and put back on 3lbs. I had a fill a couple days after that, and unfortunately it kicked my butt. I ended up in the hospital for a couple days, and then got put on bed rest for a week. I havent even made a post on here since then. Anyway, I was dreading the scales this morning, since I havent doen ANYTHING in a couple weeks. Not to mention my fill had to be taken out so I have no restriction. Anyway, like you, I figured it would have been worse than it was, but I did gain 11lbs in the last 2-3 weeks. Back up to 427. :rolleyes2: Actually 5 pounds heavier than when I started this comp. Anyway, game on now. Glad to have you back. Apparently I need the motivation. Expect a good loss for me next week!

    Fenton vs. PRCowboy Challenge

I like the wager idea. Kicks it up a notch. I'm in for whatever. I'll let Fenton decide. Anybody else getting in on this? I suppose we could do it by percentage of total body weight lost instead of lbs, so it would be more fair. If thats the case last week I was down ~ 1.18% TBW
  9. I just had my first fill on Monday. My doc put the needle in and then fill the band completely, then used a chalky drink so he would see it on xray. IT was a weird feeling to feel your stommach completely close and then reopen. I have more restriction than I had, but I would love more. My second fill isnt until Sept. 10th.

Fellas, think I my have screwed up....

I agree with Fenton, dont worry about it. You would have probably known if it was a problem. I started my regualer diet at the end of three weeks. I had lost 30 lbs on the liquid diet, but then gained back 10 the first week of mushies. I decided if I was gaining weight, I would eat normal. Took it slow, one normal meal a day and what do you know? I stopped gaining weight. I am still trying to balance it out now, because I havent gained anymore, but I havent lost anything either. My first fill isnt until August 4th, so I am just trying to ride it out. Good luck and whatever you do, take it slow.

    Daily menu and excercise

I am pretty new, but I will post. I started my weight loss on June 7th with my pre-op diet. I was banded on June 11th. On the 7th I was 463, and today I am 424. I have actually gained about 10 pounds back since I was able to start eating again. Typical food intake during the week. My problem is weekends. Breakfast - 10oz of Water with Fiber, Vitamins, asprin and 4oz Protein shake. Usually once I have all that, I am full until 11 or 12. The last week I have been having 2 scrambled eggs with parmensian(sp?) cheese for lunch. dinner is usually meat, chicken, beef, meatball with sauce, etc. I probably overeat at dinner, but I think weekends are what is hurting me so far. I walk a lot at work, delivery driver, and try to walk the neighborhood a cuople times a week. On the weekends I will do a couple of hours of yardwork, usually Saturday morning. Now that I am off mushies, I am trying to cut the carbs out again. I lost over 100 on Atkins, so I wha to do that again. Good luck. Hope this helps.

    Low Carb Banders Unite

I am glad I ran across this. I was banded two weeks ago. I actually am starting mushies tonight. I have never been so excited to have mashed potatoes. I was on adkins for a year before surgery and lost about 100lbs. I was like everybody else, I had lost a lot but then gained it back, so I figured do Adkins until you cant do it anymore and get a band. The clear liquid diet works pretty well too. I started it June 7th @ 463 lbs and today I am 416. I am a little worried about having all the carbs(mushies) for the next two weeks, because I do want to go back on Atkins. I was able to stay on it a long time, because I enjoyed my 30 carbs a day. For me barbque sauce and some kind of starch kept me going. And I actually lost the 100 lbs in a little more than 4 months and then just maintained for the next 8 months. A piece of advice. Avoid the sugar-free candy. It is addicting, and you cant lose weight. I didnt gain any weight, but that is why I stopped losing. ANyway, nice to meet you all. I am sure I will post here again.
  13. I was self pay so I went faster but, I attended my seminar on May 3rd and I was banded on June 11th. Made for a busy month, but it was nice to do it fast. Good luck.

    Pre-OP Diet

I agree with what Fenton says. If you embrace it you can really drop some weight. I started with two days of liquids and a light dinner, then 4 days of clear liquid followed by my two weeks of clear liquid post op. I have completed about 8 days post op. I started on June 5th @ 463 and today June 19th (only two weeks) I am at 423. Good luck!

    A Banded Brother

Hey guys - Here is the story. Tuesday I went in for my final pre-op appointments and to have the IVC filter placed. The filter was scheduled for 8 in the morning, so we were there by 7. Waiting around and was finally taken back to the radiology OR. They gave me "happy gas" but I was awake and was able to watch on the monitor. After about 20 minutes of prep work and placing the wire they decided my IVC was too large to have a filter. I guess it messures at 33-34 mil. Stroy of my life, too big. Anyway the suregons decided that since I had lost about 30lbs on my pre-op diet I was no longer in the over 50 BMI, so that was one less risk factor. Surgery was a go for Wednesay at 9. Wednesday my family and I drove out to the hospital and we were in the waiting room by 7:30. I was hooked up and ready to go by 8. Spoke with all the docs and they rolled me back by 8:30. I was pretty nervous about the drugs knocking me out, but my brother had reassured me when he had surgery they told him to count down from 100. He said he remembered saying 97 and then woke up in recovery. As I was being tucked into the table I was waiting for him to say he was going to have me count down. I remember him saying here it comes, and then I woke up in recovery. Didnt even get to say 100! I was in recovering by 10 but didnt wake up until closer to 11. I was home by 1 and it is a 30 minute drive. Nurses said I was the ebest patient she had seen in her 3 months(I am sure she tells all the guys this), but it worked for me. I wasnt able to sleep much last night but I have been napping on and off the last two days. Small gas pains, and I very lucky I havent had pain or discomfort in my shoulder or back. You guys were a great support system before the surgery and now that I am a bandster, I am sure you will be eqially great as we go on our weight loss journey together. Thanks for everything guys.

    Soon to be a "BANDit"

Good Luck Nem!! Fenton, man I am doing good. I was sore for a couple of days. The gas was gone two days after, and it was never bad. I was 463 a week ago Saturday, when I started my 4 day pre-op day. Today I am 427. Down 12 since I came home from the hospital. Feeling good. I probably will be bored by the time I go back to work; not until next Monday. Oh well, I will enjoy my qusi-vacation.

    Soon to be a "BANDit"

What a bunch of pricks. My HR rep told me that if I was going to be out more than 4 days I would be put on FMLA, which protects your job up to 6 months. We arent a union, so I dont know how those two things will work, but hag in there. Let us know how its going.
  18. I am on my pre-op clear liquid diet. Surgery is next Wednesday. I am having my protein shakes for lunch and dinner. Broth and sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles throught the day. My question is can I have Sprite Zero. It is clear, no calories, carbs, caffine or sugar. My doc is unavailable until Monday. Thanks for your help.

    Vena Cava Filter?

Hey guys - I have been through about ten different appointments in the last week. Set to be banded on June 11th. I have a couple more to go this week. I guess I must have sleep apena, because I have a CPAP test Friday night. Also my Pulmonologist suggested a vena cava filter to stop possible PEs. He said with my BMI it is a higher risk. My BMI is about 51, but I am a 26 YO. Did anyone else get one of these? Penny for your thoughts:)

    Need fill doctor in Oklahoma

Thats my doc. Actually he is the assistant surgeon. Fills are 400 dollars if you are self pay. Nice to know there are bandsters so close. Good Luck!

    Vena Cava Filter?

Thanks everybody. I am scheduled to get the filter Tuesday morning, then the band on Wednesday. I will let everybody know how it goes.

    Vena Cava Filter?

I probably do have some level of denial. After all, I did manage to get up to 542 without thinking I had a problem. I guess when I honestly look at it my only questions are: if it does catch clots, where do they go? Could eventually be blocked? and How does soemthing like this hold up over time. With this surgery I expect to live another 50 plus years.I will have to call my doc later and ask. Thanks for calling BS, maybe thats what I needed.
  23. PRCowboy

    question

I am about a week away and yesterday was my pre-op. They told me I could take tylenol, but to avoid asprin and ibpr. They didnt give me any reasons, but I would call and ask. Good Luck.
  24. PRCowboy

    Vena Cava Filter?

Thanks for the input. With all the blood thinners they will have me on and the compression boots I am leaning more toward not having it done. I will let everybody know once I decide for sure. Tanks again everybody. Its nice to have people to bounce Q's off of who have been through this before.
  25. Hey guys got my date today. 6-11. Nervous but ready to make the change. How is everybody doing?
