  1. GO FRAN!! I go on Wednesday for my follow up and first fill.
  2. Welcome, Scrappy! Good luck!
  3. Ugh, plans changed for this weekend I shall remain in Vegas. I need to get out more, dammit! Anyone up for coffee, a meal, or a walking date (love to walk the air-conditioned malls in the heat; even window shopping for 3-4 miles is burning calories!)?
  4. Yeah! Welcome! Grats, Mary! Slow and steady!
  5. Are you adding to the current Labor Day Challenge or starting a new one? See here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/june-labor-day-challenge-65213/

I know it won't last, but I have been losing pretty fast and didn't want to complete it too soon. That sounds a little funny, but I want to work harder for that goal.

  8. I know just enough about Star Trek to be dangerously bad at ST references. My mother, on the other hand, can quote every book, movie, and TV episiode known to man and any other species. I am a recovering EverQuest junkie; it's been two years away after 7 years of play. I led a high-end guild, I was a Senior Guide (non-GM GMs), and my ex-husband and I played together to spend time together. Disgusting, now that I think back on it. But, that's what we did. My point is, I understand some of the geek mentality that goes into this. Anyway, I still visit, see, and talk to a lot of the friends I made in EQ. In speaking to one of them last night, I was telling him about this thread and he laughed; he loved it. He said to take it a step further: whether your friends are into cars, music, sci-fi, etc. He said to say you were "streamlining." It applies to so many things!
  9. Jacqui hit the nail on the head, and I think it's being missed. This isn't about abuse... it's about (a) being honest - you aren't (or shouldn't be) here only to be told what you want to hear. That isn't support and that won't promote success. and ( halting the promotion of the very attitudes and behaviors that made us fat in the first place. Support isn't always cuddly, and it sure as hell isn't sugar-coated. True support is saying and doing what is necessary to help ensure success... and that includes the truth that so many don't want to hear. That, and, as has been pointed out: this isn't the support forum, this is the Rants and Raves. The rant/rave began talking about people who walk in here expecting the warm and fuzzies, the company for their misery. Success = hard work. If someone can't be bothered to work at this, if they think there is an easy way to do all this, if they aren't willing to try their hardest... then I have no sympathy. I won't support old habits in the new lifestyle. I may not say it to their faces... but I will be saying it in here if I so choose.
  10. My friend Alex asked me about this.... I just said I figured it was a liquid so no problem! LOL I didn't know about the calories... not bad considering some vitamins have more!
  11. Ha ha ha I am Two of Four in my family. I can't wait until I can wear Seven of Nine's outfit! Hmmm, how geeky is geeky? -- Throw in some D&D/Evercrack/Wow/DAoC references to increased HP or health -- Tell them the female elves love it -- Spin it Weird Science style. There has to be a way -- Call it Kaizen (Six-Sigma, Lean) implementation ... hmmm...
  12. Absolutely, I would say there is quite a high number of people who get WLS without being honest in their assessment(s) or expectation(s). They are not invested in the process, the changes in lifestyle, and the results because they have given up all control and accountability to the band. It's too bad. For all the energy put into cheating the band (read: cheating themselves), they could experience great success if they just tried.
  13. I have.... Salads, minestrone (and similar) Soups (no pasta), fish (steamed, grilled, or boiled; request no fats/oils), chicken (same as fish, but not steamed, eww), sashimi, grilled veggies, the occasional wrap (or rather, the small portion I can eat) with mustard instead of dressing or mayo. I don't eat things made with cheese, but if it's on the side I may have a taste. Nothing fried or breaded. No breads or pastas. A great place to eat out as a bandster is a tapas restaurant. Small, small plates of food, lots of choices.
  14. Should i just settle on someone whom I don't like so much? NEVER! You'll get there when you get there. Never settle. =) In the mean time, just change pods or fishing gear. Have fun!
  15. I love the elliptical at the gym, so I bought one for the house, too! I am so happy, it's here! They're going to deliver and set up for me on Friday!!
  16. Hey Phoenix, It's more than just differences that you've noticed. Based on your post I wouldn't be quick to throw you into "that" group. It sounds like you have done some reading and notice differences... but you are not posting, "I need help! Make me do this the right way! Someone please take accountability out of my hands so I can keep my bad habits; if I whine some more will you please tell me what to do with every bite of ice cream and deep fried lard?" Sorry, maybe that's too harsh. We all have questions; I am sure I have asked some stupid ones. But questions and comparative analysis aside, it's the ones who think that posting their bad habits and then looking for company for their misery that piss me off. Is it hard? It sure as hell can be. Is it worth it? Exponentially more than the "pain" it causes while you get there. Good luck on the liquids, I know that's tough. sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello, flavored teas, drink powders (as long as they dissolve completely; sugar-free, of course)... you probably know all these, but I am tossing 'em out there anyway. =)
  17. If you are eating regularly, eating balanced, and making sure your nutrition needs are met (not calories, but Vitamins, Proteins, a little fat, etc.) then you won't always be too low to lose. I asked my doc if I was too low, and the previous sentence was what I was told. I average 800 or so calories a day, I make sure it's balanced, and I make sure I get everything I need. The calories are average based on 4oz of food per meal, healthy, yada yada yada. I wasn't setting a low calorie goal, it's just the way it worked out for me. Even at only 800 a day, I am losing very fast (at the moment, I realize it won't be like this forever), and I am not even really trying too hard yet. I am still supposed to be healing.
  18. CONGRATS!!! Awesome!
  19. I tell them right away. Not "Hi, my name is Felicia and I have a lap band," but if I am going to be spending time with someone, I find a way to bring it up gently and topically. Whether romantic or not, they're going to find out eventually, right? The band, this new me, is the reason I have a lot of my new behaviors and I need to know that I am supported. If they can't handle it right away, they won't be able to handle it later. Two examples: I am traveling to Philly, NYC and DC in August with a "gentleman friend" (my mom's term) whom I haven't seen in about 2 years. We're on the phone all the time, he knows about it, he's always loved the person I am/was, and I know he'll like the new exterior and lifestyle just as much. He's one of my biggest supporters! I have another friend with whom I have been spending more time here in Vegas and he didn't know until after. He just kept saying how great I was looking... then commented at dinner with my friends and family that I wasn't eating much. I told him, right then and there, and he's been great! Be proud of who you are and the decisions you have made. You deserve to be supported and cared for now and always, not just later when it's comfortable for someone else. Just my $0.02. Good luck!
  20. Essentially, everyone has said what I would say so I thought of skipping this thread, but I also know that it helps to hear from others. In addition to "ditto" covering most of it, let me just say that PCOS (and with it, insulin resistance, fertility issues, etc.) and weight gain/obesity are conspiring bedfellows. PCOS issues will make you gain weight, weight gain will exacerbate PCOS issues. It's a vicious cycle - one I hope to break with my weight loss. My periods are so few and far between (my friend Charlie calls it "natural seasonale") that I sometimes forget women have to deal with that every month. The good news: Now that almost 40 lbs are gone in 5 weeks or so... I have a period! Also, my blood sugars are completely normal... without Actos, without anything but the band supporting my new eating habits and exercise routines. My A1C was 5.9 pre-band, borderline diabetic. I went through months of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia waves. 5 weeks, no more. The band is the best thing I did for my PCOS and related issues... even if the weight loss is first and foremost, the results and affects on other issues is reason enough.
  21. Success is more than just the scale. For physical, measurable successes, start measuring inches when you weigh yourself, and keep a log. The more fat you burn and muscle you build, the inches will fall away along with the weight. You probably won't notice much day to day, but it will begin to add up! Celebrate the loss of both inches and weight! If your weight loss is slowing down that much... wouldn't your doctor give you a fill? I am confused (maybe it's too early to be reading the boards); you sound worried that he won't give you a fill but you say that the scale hasn't moved... isn't that one of the times to discuss a fill with your doc?
  22. Woohoo!! Welcome Miss Mary!
  23. Livermoron checking in.... I live in Vegas now, but I was born and raised in SF Bay Area. I visit often and would love to meet some Bandsters when I am "home."
