  1. Yes Do your research. Ask questions. Choose a facility that is classified as a "Surgery center of excellence" (USA ) AND a surgeon who has a title of "surgeon of excellence". This is is YOUR LIFE. DONT BARGAIN SHOP CAUSE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Your not going to get A ROLLS ROYCE ON A SKATE BOARD BUDGET. Get a loan if you need to. Purchase a health insurance policy that covers bariatric surgery (just long enough to get your surgery) if you need to, set up a GoFundMe.com account if you need to, sell stuff on eBay if you need to. State Medicaid may pay for it. It does in some states. Look into that. There's a good book called weight loss surgery for dummies. It covers ALL aspects including financial issues. It's available on eBay, Amazon and may also be available at your local library. I recently saw a segment on "The Doctors" about people going to Mexico for plastic surgery. OMG! I wouldn't get a pedicure there! It's ok to bargain shop for your shoes... Your clothes... Even your groceries... But not your health... Not your very life and certainly not your child very future. Believe me I understand your weight struggle. I'm 53 and have been fighting for 35 years... Maybe longer than you've been alive perhaps??? I've Just now been approved for surgery so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But ten years ago my insurance didn't cover this. Even then I WOULD NOT have stepped foot into Mexico even if THEY paid ME.
  2. If you DO do it make sure you make sure you make funeral arrangements and care arrangements for your child before you leave. I'm just being practical.
  3. Then don't do it.
  4. A few weeks? She's two years out and still hiccups when she's approaching full.
  5. A friend of mine when she starts getting full her nose runs and she starts hiccuping. Any other quirks?
  6. Yes! 49 when I got pregnant 50 when I delivered! And yes a geriatric pregnancy is 35+ now. I was actually thrown into medical menopause at 53. I had one ovary left and tests showed I was NOT in menopause yet. A month later my one remaining ovary twisted and ruptured and had to be surgically removed. Instant menopause although it couldn't have been far off!lol! I lost my other ovary at age 40 to the same thing.
  7. I've never heard that. I've been cleared for surgery and I have bipolar. I've been seeing a psychiatrist for years but the length of time was NEVER an issue. What was the main focus was.... Was I STABLE. AS long as my condition was stable and I passed the standard psych eval that everyone must go thru.... I was cleared to proceed. Your bariatric clinics will put you through all the standard testing and make the determinations. In fact they never even contacted my psychiatrist. They asked for a letter of medical necessity from my primary care Dr then they put me through a psych eval with their own psychologist. I bet if you call the clinic and ask them directly if you will be automatically denied if you haven't been seeing your psychiatrist for at least a year for your bipolar you'll be denied....I bet dollars to donuts they'll tell u that's not true. Go ahead.... Call them. That's the best place to get the info u want.... Straight from the horses mouth. Sent from my moto e5 (XT1920DL) using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Although I'd like to add I didn't appreciate being referred to as a geriatric pregnancy lol!!
  9. I'm 53 and have a 4 year old. Yes it was a natural pregnancy, no fertility drugs or ivf. Complete surprise and I finally entered menopause 6 months ago. It was my 3rd pregnancy. My first was at age 41 aand my 2nd was age 46 and they were all natural healthy full term pregnancies.
  10. Oh and be sure and really do your research no matter WHO u choose. Dr. Now in Texas is being sued for leaving an instrument and tubing in a patient. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.intouchweekly.com/posts/my-600-lb-life-dr-nowzaradan-sued-156735/amp/
  11. I'm relatively healthy... Exercise a lot... I'm pretty sure they'll do my surgery lapaoscopacally .... I'm just wondering how bad the pain is for a gastric bypass? Will there be a lot of nausea?
  12. I'm not qualified to o evaluate anyone but last week I took my psych eval and while admit to overeating, and being hungry all the flipping time I was adiment I was not a stess eater. Well I had to wait a week for my follow up on my psych eval before being cleared to go proceed with my surgery. I was so nervous nervous about this psych eval! I really want this surgery. One day I found myself rummaging through the fridge.... Then the cupboards.... Not finding anything suitable aka: sweet stuff and then I stopped and had an epiphany.....oh my God!!!! I AM a stress eater!!! I just caught myself with my hand in the cookie jar!!!! I was SO SURE I wasn't! Its possible others can see things in us that we don't and I'm so glad I had that week to stress out and see myself for what I am. It's important for us to at least be open to the idea that maybe we could be wrong and they could be right. I'm saying just be open to the possibility and therapy can help you explore that possibility and put it to rest one way or the other.
  13. My insurance requirements are minimal. I have to pass a psych eval (done) see a exercise therapist (scheduled) and a dietician (scheduled) then follow up once with each of them two weeks after my first initial appt with them (already scheduled) then I'm ready to submit! That is all my insurance requires. No weigh-ins or supervised visits/diets etc. From my first appt with my surgeon to my surgery date should be approx 3 months.
  14. SO worth the drive. Google Mercy bariatrics springfield mo and you can take the seminar online to start the process then they will send you a packet through the mail to fill out. Once they receive your completed packet it takes about 4 weeks for them to review it and get back to you with your first appt. Things move really quick then. They received my completed packet Dec 18th. They called me Jan 15th and set me up with an appt to see my surgeon the next day. While I was seeing my surgeon they called to set me up to schedule my psych eval for the next day. Now all I have left is a dietician and exercise therapist consult then we submit to insurance. Looking at a late March or early April surgery. So from start to surgery will end up being 3-3 1/2 mos
  15. I passed! **Doing the happy dance**[emoji126][emoji126][emoji126]
  16. I sent in my first application to see if they would even accept me into the bariatric program on Dec 18th 2018 (they accepted me 4 weeks later) and I will have my last appt March 5th 2019 and ready to submit to insurance. It will take up to 30 days for insurance to approve so I'm looking at an April Surgery. So from Start to surgery day it will be 4 months roughly.
  17. Talk to your pharmacist. People often forget about their local pharmacist (pharmacy technician here) but they are a WEALTH of information and often more informed then physicians!!
  18. I live in Springfield MO and Dr Edwards with Mercy Hospital is AMAZING!!! I highly recommend him and his team!!
  19. It depends on your Dr. A lot of Drs do a "quantitative" test which tests for nicotine in the body and can detect nicotine as far back as 3-4 months. Tests are getting more and more sophisticated. If people are serious about getting this surgery and one of the criteria is to be smoke free for 4 months prior to surgery then you must be prepared to do just that and not be surprised if your gets cancelled because you think you can be the exception to the rule. Do you want the cigarettes more or the surgery more? You have to pick one because you can't pick both.
  20. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]I think that's pretty much what I did
  21. Piece of cake! I was worried for nothing! Now on to dietary consult exercise consult then submit to insurance andost likely aarch surgery. I started this process Dec 18th so not bad! Super fast and easy!
  22. Looks like my surgery is going to be late March. I submitted an application to the clinic on Dec 18th just to see if they'd accept me into the bariatric program. 4 weeks they did. The next day I saw the surgeon for my first visit. The very next day I had my psych eval. Today (a week after the psych eval) I go to review the psych eval results. Next I have a dietary visit and an exercise therapist visit. Then 2 weeks later I follow up with them then they submit to ins. Voila!
  23. You also might drink a couple cups of detox tea a day while hydrating yourself well while waiting to go in for your blood test. Wal Mart carries a good detox tea on the coffee/tea aisle called detox tea by traditional medicines
  24. If they are just doing a simple blood test I'd wait one week while hydrating the heck outta myself.... Take the test and pray to the powers that be!!!!
