  1. Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one! I've been banded 3 months and just this week started eating cereal again. I am eating some "heart healthy" mess, I'm eating it dry out of a baggie at my desk at work. I too am hungry mid morning, that's when I drink crystal lite and call it water.
  2. I weighed this morning, up 2 pounds. JanetC, I'm in with the no chocolate pact....Do I need to take an oath or something? I have decided I need to give up all obvious sugar, I understand there is sugar in lots of foods, but cake, cookies, candy, etc...Those things are not on the "good food" list. Because sugar has been my friend for so many years I believe I should say good-bye to it....Divorce it...Yeah, I'll see it around, but I will not have a close relationship with it anymore. Any ideas about a ceremony or something tangible I can do make our parting of the ways seem real? Anyone want to join me with a food divorce of you own?
  3. I am planning my second fill for early June, I haven't had the big drop in weight I expected after my first fill. I did get pretty good restriction...honesty time: I just started exersicing this week and I am SO battling my desire for sweets, I don't always win. What are you all thinking? Next fill in June or wait? The thing is my surgeon is in Monterrey and I have to plan my trips about 6 wks before. Thoughts?:help:
  4. Banded 2/3/06 Dr. Del La Garza Monterrey, Mx First fill 3/25/06 2.5cc in 5cc Inamed band -32 lbs Tammy in Tx
  5. Sweets: Anything with frosting, doughnuts, honeybuns, cookies with chocolate, oh and dark chocolate....and pretty much any bread, buttered please.
  6. Please don't think of it as "using up" DH's vacation on this...You'll feel fine, but you shouldn't be lifting the lil' angels. Consider this...vacation at home this year: Picnic in the livingroom floor, Go to your nearest zoo...(the animals are like the kids springfever is making them playful and fun to watch), get a sitter one day and have Mommy and Daddy day. Make this a treat...ultimately your whole family will reap the rewards so why not start the week of surgery with fun for everyone. Thinking of you, Tammy
  7. I was banded by Dr. De La Garza 2/3/06 and just returned from my first fill today. The care I recieved from the doctor and the hospital staff was wonderful. I was a little nervous before surgery, and then I saw the surgical suite...state of the art top to bottom. The facilities are extremely clean and the nursing staff is second to none. Dr. De La Garza is quite accessible, I don't know the story of the man who "recieved no help" after surgical complications. My first question for him would be whether or not he left the hospital AMA (against medical advice). These types of occurances are part of the risks of surgery, the question is not has a surgeon had a patient with a complication but how did he handle the situation.
  8. Too Fun!!! When I am thin I will: Take the stairs...and enjoy it. Wear a tong...on purpose. Lay on the beach...without a cover-up on. Be comfortable in my own skin. Admire my own muscles.
  9. I will have my first fill 3/24 and I can't wait, I lost 20 lbs so far (banded 2/3/06) and now I feel like I'm eating too much. I know I should count calories everyday, but sometimes I think, "Didn't I pay $9000. to avoid diets".
  10. Natural hair color (and skin color) can be a predictor of incision scarring, but I've never heard the anasthesia recovery thing before. Tammy
  11. Margo, You are doing great, you say you are snacking a little too much...think about counting calories for a ffew days just to see what you are taking in. You could be underestimating what you are eating, but then you could be getting too few calories...Give it a try for a few days.
  12. There is a wonderful presription med called Rozerem, it's meletonin but about 16 times stronger than anything you can get over the counter. Like OTC meletonin it doesn't work for everyone, but when I use it I'm out like a light and sleep a full eight hrs. Ask your doc for a sample if you are afraid it won't work, to avoid paying for a whole bottle. Sweet Dreams, Tammy
  13. I used Dr. Del La Garza at OCA hospital, they have a small 5 suite hotel there in the hospital. The Doc comes by a couple times a day to check on the patients, he sits, visits and answers questions...also comforts crying patients umm not that I would ever cry. I live in Texas and will be returning for my fills, one of the others girls he operated on the same day is from Canada. Three of us bonded there in the hotel and have planned our first fill trip together. The Dr. told us this is not uncommon. Dr. Del La Garza has proformed over 1800 lap band procedures, he is fluent in english, he recieved his training here in Texas and he teaches in Latin America. My friend from Canada had consulted with a physician in Toronto who was trained by Dr. Del La Garza, but he was too expensive. Dr. Del La Garza found the story quite amusing and offered to call and get her in with the Toronto Doc for fills. I can't say enough good things about the Dr. and the hospital. Oh, cost $8,750 which included airfare and fills. All my best, Tammy
  14. I'm so happy for you! You are going to do great, follow ALL the instructions your Doc gives you. I had mine done 2/3/06 and have lost 17.1# as of today. I'll be praying for you on Wens. Tammy
  15. I was banded 2/3/06 and have been coming here for about 6 weeks. I could not agree more with what Babs said about correcting medical advice as necessary. I would like to add that correcting medicinal advise is occassional necessary as well. We all need a Bariatric Surgeon and a Primary Healthcare Provider that we trust and talk to about ALL medical issues. Some of us have personal experience others are in healthcare and have professional experience, but all advise should be filtered through your Docs. :suspicious:
  16. Hey Sue, I'm self pay, so I went to Monterrey Mx $9000 Dr. Del La Garza OCA Hospital I was pleased with both. Tammy
  17. I bought a little pocket sized journal for about a dollar, it's not exciting but it gets the job done. I am also scrap booking my journey...now that's exciting!
  18. Hey Lisa, About the 82#, you will lose both fat and muscle. The trick is to workout regularly so that you can build muscle. My guess would be that the 2037 calories per day is what it would take to maintain your current weight. I was banded by Dr. Del La Garza in Monterrey, Mx 2/3/06...he told us that we needed to find a Nutritionist here at home...I haven't done it yet, sounds like we both need too.
  19. Thanks Kathy, I think it's wonderful that lap band is being researched for teens. It's a awesome tool and I look forward to seeing many teen and young adult successes. Tammy
  20. Dana, I found it for you: Rimonabant Dody, I get what you're saying, but as a practicing RN with experience working drug rehab I would caution anyone and everyone to take meds only as prescribed by their healthcare provider. Narcotic anxiolytics are a bitch to kick, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I'm sure we can agree that starting with the least habit forming med first and working ones way up as needed is the most prudent plan. I wish you the best with your panic attacks, I can't imagine the pain they must have caused you. I hope you've found a good therapist to help you with those issues. As you know anxiety disorders feed on themselves and getting a handle on them can be a massive struggle, but with your background I know you'll get it done. All my best, Tammy
  21. Dana, What exactly do you mean by "nerves"? If you experiencing anxiety talk to your Doc about Buspar...think Xanax, but non-narcotic. There is a new drug out there for smokers, but it is also said to help with weight. I'd tell you the name, but for the life of me I can't remember it....Maybe I should look into Alzhiemer meds...Hahahaha Tammy
  22. Hey All, I'm also Protestant as well, and I love the idea of thinking about what comes out of my mouth instead of always thinking about what goes in. I will give up complaining, it is possible to carry on a conversation without negativity. I believe in the book of James we are to "Speak little, listen much, and be very slow to anger." Tammy
  23. I'm an RN CMG coordinator (glorified nurse case manager). Tammy
  24. Hey Cyndi, My insurance doesn't cover bariatric...um....ANYTHING, so I went to Mexico. I used Xenical several yrs ago and of course counted fat grams, I lost about 11# and put it all back on a few months later. Roxanne is sooo right about the gas, go to the bathroom for every toot. Also, it only works for the meals you take it with, so take it 3 times a day. Good Luck. Tammy
  25. Banded 2/3/06..What's a PB?
