This was such a great post. It really is something to take seriously and I hate to see people treat as just another diet. There can be complications and has a major impact on the body.

I’m only 6 days post op and find your post to be so inspirational.

I’m six days out and getting your liquids in can be a struggle. I would check with your dr just to make sure you are doing everything you can to feel better. They might have some helpful suggestions or options to help. I know my body is having trouble adjusting to the changes and it’s challenging. Best of luck to you!!!

First of all, do what your surgeon said. With that disclaimer out of the way, listen to your body next. No driving for a few days after being put under--standard safety. Second, no driving under narcotics, right? If you are feeling super great by day four, and the strongest meds you are taking is Tylenol, then take a short drive if it pleases you. I had my sleeve done last February and I wasn't really ready to take a drive for a week. Not because I was popping pain meds, but because I felt like a melted poop pile and that was enough to make me feel like NO driving was safer for everyone. I had a revision to a bypass the Friday before Thanksgiving due to complications from my sleeve. Went in on Friday, came home on Sunday and I was ready to go out driving on Monday! Listen to your surgeon first, then your body next. Melted poop=no driving ?!

I DO KNOW WHAT IS AWESOME! We all are, we came from deprecation, being all but invisible to run-of-the-mill people, from NO Hope into a bright beautiful FUTURE. And if you and I still have a distance to make our Goals, why we can and will. And each pound / KG we lose, each,inch/ cm we decrease in our size, it is gone forever and we move ahead. And I know I have made so many friends sharing this journey on Bariatric Pal, and when my heart wanted to give up, when I was uncertain it was worth the effort, they were only a posting away, many had gone through this trial, and there might have been a little trick to get through and move on.
So today is only the prelude to better things
Yesterday is good, it was only the PAST
Tomorrow has not dawned, it is the FUTURE
Today is now, A wonderful Bright shining Day with promise, a True Gift?

I'm 5 days post op and I get what you are saying. I do feel like everyday gets a little better. Also, I know what you mean about the taste buds, a lot of things taste weird to me now. Somethings taste really metallic to me. I have no doubt it'll get better.

I'm 41 and hopefully getting sleeved in December. After having such a bad experience with the lap band I was scared to even consider another WL procedure. I feel like its now or never but, I do wish I had done it years ago.

Personally, I had a terrible experience with the lap band!!!! I was throwing up A LOT. Most of the time I would take one bite and it would get stuck. Sometimes I would take a sip of water in the morning and would end up throwing up for 30 minutes, and that's on an empty stomach. I didn't lose weight and eventually the band slipped and needed to be removed. I had such a terrible experience that when people tell me they are getting the band I always tell them my story. I even told my doctors office that they could give my number to patients considering the band and have questions. I'm so relieved to have it out. I'm not used to eating a meal and not having to stop because its stuck. I had the band for a long time, too long!!!!!
I'd advise you to start practice eating slower and chewing your food really really well. Even if you're not dieting eating slower and chewing more will help for after surgery. Also, I'd stop eating and drinking at the same time. After surgery you won't be able to eat and drink at the same time, the more practice you have the better. Some people really struggle with that as they are so used to taking sips while they eat.

I was going to ask my surgeon the same question. I honestly feel like I heal much better at home Andean never relax in the hospital. I was planning on asking him the next time I see him.

I realize everyone has different comfort levels in how much they like to share with people about their surgery. I have a few friends at work that I have told but I don't want to broadcast it to my entire company and am not sure if I want to tell my manager the specifics. What reason (if any) did you give for your absence from work?

Congrats on the approval! I know it can be a very exciting and scary time but staying positive and focusing on your goals will keep you moving forward. Hopefully those that disapprove will come around, you are doing this to better your life so that you can live a richer, more complete, and longer life. What better reason is there?????

You will do great!!!!!! I'm not having surgery until December. I had my lap band removed last month and VSG had to wait until I recover. I'm not too far behind you, maybe we can be a support system for each other???

The hospital just called to tell me my surgery is at 3:30 PM on Monday! I’m so irritated that it is so late in the day. It’s bad enough that I’m so nervous as it is and now I have to sit on Monday waiting for my surgery. Also, right now is that time of the month (ladies) and I am just so irritable in general. I just want to get this over with. Why would he schedule a surgery so late?!! 3:30 isn’t even the time! That’s the time I have to be in the building for pre-admission. SO ANNOYED!
