Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Long2Bthin, I LOVE chocolate, especially good dark chocolate. In fact, I love most food, salty, sweet, bland, crunchy, chewy, soft. That's why I need this surgery. I go Thursday for my pre-op and the dr. will give me a surgery date plus a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I go day to day from last meal syndrome to wanting to get a good start on my losing. I started water aerobics but I have been having problems with the treadmill walking as my lower back is giving me fits. I do not want to take too much Aleve and mess up my stomach, so I take my exercise day to day also. The water does not hurt my back. Janet, I love reading about Peter & Rina Decker. The Jewish rituals fascinate me. I too had a Jewish girlfriend when I was young. I lived in the Quad Cities, Bettendorf, IA, and she would go to Hebrew school at the temple in Moline, IL, after grammar school. I went to temple with her sometimes, but of course I remember the wonderful kosher food the most. Of course I am Episcopalian, so love the beauty of ritual. A couple of other authors I really like are Maeve Binchy and Amy Tan. mudhouse sabbath by Lauren F. Winner is also excellent. She tries to reconcile Judaism and Christianity after becoming a convert to Christianity. It is very short and a good read.

Hello Missouri
Deedra, I am from Lebanon also. I will be praying for you on Monday. I go the 10th for my 2nd consult and will find out my surgery date. All the pre-work is done. I am self-pay so I should not have too much longer to wait to be banded. Mary said three to four weeks. Do you know others in Lebanon who are banded or are going to be banded? It is always nice to know for the additional support. Check in again after your surgery so we know you are doing well and PM me if there is any thing I personally can do for you while you recover. Good luck and a speedy recovery. Dianne

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oh my! IndioGirl you look good! Those pictures are wonderful. I too am so excited. I received a call from my surgeon's office today and my last consult is 07-10-08. He will set the surgery date, I'll go to preadmission and have final labs, then I'll start my two week diet. I know it won't be easy, but I am so ready for this. I have finally told all my family and close friends. They are so supportive. I worried for naught. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!! We 50+ are the bomb!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Hi all, I have problems sleeping at night which I attribute to menopause and Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). I take Mirapax for the legs and have been taking Ambien 10 mg to help me fall asleep (not the CR). I have been having leg pain (Diabetes) and so I am up and down all night. The Ambien seems to lower the inhibitions so I find myself eating at night with proof of it because I see wrappers, leftovers, empty bowls. I have no memory of it until I see this proof and see a replay in my mind. Luckily I haven't taken a midnight drive or anything like that, just eating. I am sure I gravitate to my comfort item (food) rather than other things. I know Mirapax lowers inhibitions also. I have tried other prescriptions by the dr. but these two work the best for my problems. I have tried not taking the Ambien numerous times but was up all night and felt horrible the next day. I am worried about when I am banded. Has anyone found a sleep aide without these side effects? Does Tylenol PM work? :confused2:

Christian bandsters
Hi, Like you I was diagnosed with type II diabetes at age 48. Along with that I was diagnosed with colon cancer, then multiple comorbities followed. I wish the LapBand had been available in my 30's. Through all this I have gained many life experiences and am stronger for it. My faith has always helped me and I have always felt God's hand guiding and comforting me. I feel the LapBand is answered prayer.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
I am afraid this is going to be my problem. My DH has always eaten very quickly and I have picked up the habit in the last 35 yrs. Along with that the bites are too big. I am always going to slow down, but by the time I am eating this is forgotten! I'm afraid when I'm banded I am going to have some painful reminders.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
I like the Jay Robb, but you have to order on-line. I like the unflavored whey protein powder or the vanilla. For example, I use one package or one scoop of the vanilla, add 8 oz. of lactose-free milk (or regular if you can drink it,) 3 or 4 ice cubes, and 1/2 cup frozen peaches. It taste just like a peach milkshake! Of course, I have not been banded yet, so after surgery I will probably have to revise the recipe. With the vanilla you can add any frozen or fresh fruit you like. Wiith the chocolate I like a banana or strawberries. Okay, now I am hungry.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
SusieCat, I am glad your dr. helped explain some things that concerned you. Do you care to share what they were? I am waiting to be banded some time in July by Dr. Edwards, so I am still doing research while waiting and finishing all the pre-op requirements. Would appreciate any input you might be willing to give. Thanks.

Woo Hoo! I was told by our coordinator my surgery would be in July. She cannot give a firm date until I have my 2nd consult with the surgeon, but I will have all my requirments completed by the end of June and I also have to do a two week pre-op liquid diet. Do we have a group name yet?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Hi everyone, I had my first consult with my dr. and my psych. eval. today. I really feel good about this surgery. He answered all my questions and never once appeared like he was in a hurry. I go next Tuesday to go over the results of my psych. eval. I have my Behavioral Health class on the 23rd. and they are to call me by the end of this week with a date for my Dietary and Exercise Rehab. consult. When this is completed they will set a date for my second consult with my dr. and then will set the surgery date. It seems to be moving very quickly now. The coordinator said my surgery will most likely be in July! Woo Hoo... There is even a possibilty of starting a once a month support group in my area. The LCSW said she has at least 10 coming in for fills from my home area and she is going to send out letters to see if they are interested. If so, I would not have to do a two hour round trip once a month. I am getting closer to joining everyone on the loser's bench. Have a nice evening.

Sleep apnea!! Diabetic!!Any advice!?!?
Iam suppose to use a cpap, but am claustrophobic. Also I am a restless sleeper. My setting is 6. I do not use it most the time so I am really looking forward to being banded. Also, recently my blood sugars have jumped in the mornings to 170-200. I am only on Actos. I tried Byetta, but couldn't take the side effects. I hope the Band helps with some of these conditions.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Hi LindaK, I am new here too and love the site. Everyone is so kind. We and my daughter's family leased a condo in March on the West end of Galveston Bay. It was a beautiful area and we loved it. As it was our first time to the area, I had no idea when booking the vacation that we would be around 25 miles one way from the main tourist area! It worked out great though. We had lots of beach time, walking, shell collecting, and playing with the grandchildren. We went to the main strip once an evening to eat dinner. I would do it again in a minute.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
GrannyK, are you listening? There are 3 of us so far for a support group in our area. Do you know of others? Or can we make it work for now with the three of us? Let us know and we can set a time and place for a 1st meeting.

In memory of Denyell
Peter, I am holding you and your family in my prayers. May the God of Mercy shed His light on you and your loved ones during this difficult time. Words cannot express at this time the grief of losing her. Just know others are thinking of you and wishing you God's peace and strength.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Congratulations....I am so glad everything went well for you and you were able to return to work. I am looking forward to my first consult on the 3rd. I've requested my medical records to be sent to Dr. Edwards and informed my PCP I am having the surgery. It seems things are moving forward. Only problem is I am hungry all the time!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Hello all, At my seminar, the surgeon said we should all buy saucers and baby utensils. This is so we become accustomed to eating this way as that is how it will be after surgery. Is he for real? Do you have to take bites that small? He has a dry humor so I really did not know. :confused2: If you are taking bites this small and chewing and chewing, will not all know when you eat at a restaurant? :leaving: Should I just get over myself!

help me narrow down mexico surgeon choice
WASa, you stated earlier in this thread that you were having a revision done. Can you be more specific about this? I am a newbie and I am self-pay so I am very concerned about the need for revisions. Thanks.
