    None of Your Business!

I'm having surgery on Aug. 20th also. Im not telling anyone. I may even have to go to the hospital alone, but it's ok. Diverticulitis surgery has a very similar recovery period to gastric sleeve surgery. No eating, heavy lifting, etc. for a while. Most people are not cleared to go back to work for approx 1-2 months. And a lot of people lose weight after the diverticulitis surgery because they are on clear liquids for approx 1 month. Good luck & prayers to you.
  2. I had a boob job at my 2nd husband's request in April 2003 (15 years ago). (I had small B size boobs.) Honestly, it did not help our relationship at all!!! I thought it would improve our sex life, but it didn't. I was a regular size person at the time - size 12. I was the same size the entire relationship (2 1/2 years), so it wasn't a physical issue. The relationship ended about 1 year later and my boobs, big or small, had nothing to do with it. I have had several issues with the implants over the years. And I have had 2 more surgeries to correct some issues since then. I would like to have them removed but the doctor told me that I would have a lot of extra sagging skin & would need a breast lift also. I had a breast lift on one breast when the implants were done & it was SOOOOO painful! I don't want to have to go through anymore surgeries on my boobs. I will probably have them removed after my sleeve surgery & I lose some weight. Overall, they have been more problems than anything. (I am writing this now with an ice pack on one of my boobs).

    In absolute shock

I'm very sorry to hear this but of course, it sounds like it was in your best interest for them to stop. A word about the cash payment; In 2009 I had elective surgery that I paid cash for. However it did not correct my problem. The Dr did the operation again about 1 month later and I only had to pay for the Anesthiologiest again, nothing else. I believe may be the case with you as well. My heart goes out to you.....

    Stigma with WLS

I can totally relate to what you are saying. I told a few friends I was "thinking about it" and the reaction i got was negative. Some examples are : - That's crazy, I would never do that! - Just exercise & eat right - People die from the surgery - People gain weight back after the surgery - You won't be able to eat what you want And the list goes on..... So I chose to not tell anyone except 2 people. I find a lot of strength here on this board & a friend I talk to, which I met on this board. She is my biggest support system & I am so grateful. Just a suggestion, only discuss it with supportive people in your life. It's your life and you can do what you want with it. Kind of a related story; About 12 years ago I saved up & got a "nose job". I always had a very big nose, but I was very afraid of the pain after surgery & the surgery itself. When i finally decided to do it; people told me I didn't need it, your crazy, that's the nose God gave you, you will be in a lot of pain... etc. Basically not supportive. I did it anyway and I'm so glad i did!!! I love my new nose and am no longer self conscience looking people face to face and talking to them, like I used to be. Yes, there was pain afterwards, but It was worth it to me. I KIND OF view this the same way. People may not be supportive, but we all have to do what's right for ourselves!

    One Week Cigarette Free!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Quitting smoking was the HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE! BUT SO WORTH IT!!! I was a 3 pack a day smoker and honestly had cravings for about 6 months after I quit. I quit in 1991 and didn't have access to patches or nicotine gum, so I went cold turkey. What I did to stave off cravings: I filled up an empty jar with cigarette butts & ashes. I kept it tightly sealed in a kitchen cabinet. Every time I craved a cigarette, I would open the jar & put my nose in it & smell it for a good long time. It would somehow curb my cravings & help me to not want a cigarette anymore. It sounds crazy, but it worked for me. I kept that jar for about 6 months. It's been over 25 years and I have haven't had the desire for another cigarette since. I find them repulsive actually. Good Luck & you can do it!!!

    Welcome

I'm so sorry to hear this. I haven't had my veg surgery yet, (July 30th), but I have done a lot of reading on this site & I believe what you are going through is extremely common. I have had 2 cosmetic surgeries (nose & breasts) and I can tell you, I regretted it & cried like a baby for several days afterwards. Could sleep or breathe for days with nose surgery & could barely walk or go to the bathroom myself after breast surgery. But after about 1 week, I felt that there was hope I would be normal again. It took about 1 month for me to feel ok after each surgery. I'm guessing the same thing with bariatric surgery. Search post op diet on this site and there are options for post op diet, such as strained soups, jello & sugar free pudding. Of course check with your Dr to make sure those things are ok. Hopefully you have someone at home helping you. But there is a lot of support here and on other message boards too. I'll pray for you & pls keep us updated.

    July surgery

Just got my date; July 30th. Happy but scared of surgery! The more I read about "complications" such as blood clots, I get a little afraid.

1 week po... Dilation & IV fluids anyone?

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I haven't had surgery yet, but I really feel for you. Maybe you can ask your doctors office for a different note, not on bariatric letterhead? Maybe explain your situation to one of the office girls and they can help you? Keep us updated pls. Prayers....

    Did Anyone Have Second Thoughts?

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it . I'm glad to know I am not the only one! I guess the date can not come soon enough!
  13. Did anyone out there have second thoughts? I don't know why, but I am fearful.... not sure of what! Surgery not going well, hunger and not being able to eat, it not working correctly.... Some of my crazy thoughts. Did anyone have 2nd thoughts, but went through with it any way? Can you pls share your experience with me? If so, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm going to have surgery sometime in July, will get my date soon. Maybe that is part of it? Fear of the unknown..? I will surly appreciate anyone who can relate and share their experience with me. Thank you so much in advance.

    July surgery

I'll be having surgery in July, not sure of date yet. A little terrified!!! I'm 53 yrs old (live in CA) and think recovery may take longer because I'm over 50 yrs old? I hope I'm wrong. I'm hoping for early July, as the anticipation is rough! Can't wait for it to be here....

I'm glad you posted this! I feel the same way! I'm fearful of complications, although it seems like most people are doing very well afterwards. I'm looking forward to replies. Thanks again for posting.
