How often do you weigh in?

I weigh in daily - first thing in the morning and naked! Consistency is important for me :)

    5-weeks post-op H20 still hurts

I’m a little over 4 weeks post op (Sleeve) and water (any temp) feels like bricks. If I add crystal light or water flavoring it helps. But sometimes plan water just makes me want to throw up.

    When was your first plateau?

3rd week was my first stall!
  4. We bought the Weight Guru scale at Bed Bath and Beyond .... but here’s the link for it on amazon! We’ve had it over 2 years and it works as well as the day we bought it! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00N9ENKDI/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1535065656&sr=8-1&keywords=weight+guru&dpPl=1&dpID=41mW5BeGZHL&ref=plSrch

    Insurance Approval Q

My insurance card had a specific pre-authorization phone number on it- but in general you can call customer service and ask for the pre-auth department. I worked in Medical Billing for years so I spent many hours on the phone with them. And yes, for my sleeve surgery I called everyday to check the status :)
  6. Same here. Sleeved in July. Period should have started day after surgery but it didn’t. PMS symptoms have been around since then (moodiness, cramps, headaches)... but still no period. I’m not too worried about it since I’m sure the shock of surgery and reduced food intake has a lot to do with it.

    No period since surgery (May)

I had surgery in July... period is way beyond late at this point (should have had it right after surgery). PMS symptoms have been present since then.. moodiness, cramps, headaches. I’m sure the shock of surgery/reduced food intake has something to do with it. I’m not too concerned.
  8. I have a desk job- surgery was 7/23 and I was back to work the following Monday 7/30. I was tired and sore but I made it. My 2nd week back to work has been MUCH better!
  9. So I’m 7 days post op and realizing while I sit here recovering just how many food commercials are on TV.... and then how many are on social media as well! This really has brought up some feelings in my head (and I know this process is a psychological one). My question is does anyone have any recommendations for good books that address food addiction/breaking free from obesity lifestyle? Any help is appreciated!

    Books about food addiction/obesity

Thank you! This looks like a great one to read! 😊

    Hungry hungry

I’m 7 days post op and I THOUGHT I was feeling hunger but it’s definitely Head hunger kicking in- which I was told can feel very similar. Even after I drink protein I still crave my old snack foods... but I realize that I don’t need them and that I just think that I do. The “hungry feeling” eventually goes away once I rationalize with myself.
  12. I had one night in the hospital and was released the next day after I passed the barium swallow test and also was able to consume 4oz of water/hour for a few hours. I know some individuals had to stay one extra night in the hospital just because the water was hard to get down at first.

    What to drink

I would definitley call your surgeon right away - diets vary from doctor to doctor. I had to start with protein shakes the day after I got out of the hospital. But of course water was a requirement too.

    July surgery

Surgery on the 23rd - and honestly the gas pains were just that...a pain. The worst part for me was the nausea - I felt sick from the anesthesia and then from the narcotic pain meds that were given in my IV. Finally they switched me to tylenol and I was okay. Water has been hard to get in (doc wants me to work up to 64 oz a day and I'm maybe getting 20-30/day right now).

Surgery went well! I’m still in the recovery room as they are waiting for a bed to open upstairs... but overall doing well

    First step in the process

I was also VERY overwhelmed after my first visit. My surgeons office gave me a list of the things I needed to do - Psych consult, gastro clearance (with endoscopy), pulmonologist (which included chest xray and sleep study), and cardio consult (only EKG needed), as well as 2 months of nutrition visits. The coordinators only scheduled nutrition visits and the rest was up to me. My advice would be to get a calender book/agenda (or print out calender pages) and plan out your visits for the docs. That helped me visualize how much time I needed to complete things. Also - schedule in advance...even if you can't get your cardiac clearance until closer to the surgery - still get on their schedule as soon as possible. I had a cardiologist in my last 3 weeks to surgery tell me he "just didn't have any time to complete my necessary testing" - of course this was after he took my copay. Thankfully found a new cardiologist and was back on my way. Anyway, have a backup plan for docs if you don't already have a regular cardio/pulmonolist/gastro doc. And lastly be patient with yourself. Over the 6 months you will learn A LOT. It's a process but it's all about changing for the better.

    Finally Here!

My insurance approval literally came last Friday morning (only 4 hours before they would have tossed me off the surgery schedule for Monday). I'm absolutely not writing this to scare you - more to give you faith Keep pushing, keep calling the insurance company - and most importantly visualize that approval letter!!

    July surgery

Mine was 3 protein shakes a day with about 4 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies, and 1/2 cup greek yogurt also included per day. I only had to do the pre-op diet one week prior to surgery but I started about a week and a half out.

    July surgery

Tomorrow is the big day! Supposed to arrive to the hospital at 6AM sharp. Nervous and excited but I can't wait to get to the other side!

    July surgery

I need some good vibes and prayers- surgery scheduled for Monday January 23rd- already on my pre-op diet and got cardiac, psych, gastro, and pulmonologist clearance. However- my insurance is still “pending”. The girls at my surgeons office said they sent it on the July 2nd but the insurance company is saying they got it the 10th and they have 14 days to review. That would mean they have u til the 24th to approve and it could be too late. Please send me some good vibes and prayers- this stress is sending me through the roof right now!!

@emkaybee21 mine is July 23rd also!
  24. My doctor is requiring pulmonary clearance but I have no pre-existing conditions like sleep apnea or anything. Did anyone else have to do this? What was required?
