    Help 😭😭

Let's try it together maybe?! I've been reading about the pouch reset diet and I think I'll try that. I'm very down about allowing this to happen but I honestly feel like the sweets and crisps cravings are worse now than before I had the op. I remember the weeks after surgery I was able to eat much quicker than I expected to be able to but because I hadn't had any sugar I wasnt craving it at all. Maybe the pouch reset will help break that cycle again.

    Help 😭😭

This is me too. I'm a year post surgery and not anywhere near my goal. I feel like it hasn't worked because my appetite has barely changed. I fill up fast ish on meals but I get hungry again really quickly so I basically eat half my meal but then have to come back an hour later and finish it. I'm doing the same thing with crisps and sweets. I'm vegetarian so find it really hard to get that much protein every day. I'm really depressed about it honestly and absolutely disgusted at myself for allowing it to happen. After the surgery for a couple of months I felt great because I was full so easily but now I feel like my appetite is the same as before the op. Maybe protein shakes might help?

    Digestion problems 11 wks out

Hi guys! I haven't been on here for a while but I'm 11 weeks post sleeve and generally feel good. I've lost 20kg and haven't thrown up once! however I've had some issues with stomach bugs - I had h pylori before the op and the antibiotics I took didn't eradicate it so I had to take another course afterwards. In the last 3 weeks I started to have issues with diarrhoea, stomach cramps and sometimes constipation. At the same time, I feel like I'm not digesting food properly. Sometimes it feels like it's stuck in my throat. I also feel my stomach moving a lot and it makes lots of noise! I've had tests and I now have salmonella and c dificil and am on yet another course of antibiotics. Sorry for the long explanation but my question is, are my digestive problems (food getting stuck and "moving around" in my stomach, not the diarrhoea ) normal or would you think they're related to the bugs? My surgeon tells me there's no connection to the op but I can't help feeling the food getting stuck definitely is. I'm eating small and slowly and chewing well - should I try digestive enzymes or something? I have 8 days of antibiotics left. Thanks guys 💜

Hi thanks for the reply! It's weird, I've had a lot of issues but I feel okay about it, I think I would have had them anyway even without the operation! I was on probiotics but I didn't notice any difference but I'll try them again now for sure. I'll also ask about the upper GI too - thanks for the suggestion

    H-pylori bug

Hi guys. Has anyone had h-pylori after the sleeve? I'm 5 weeks post op and before it I had an endoscopy that uncovered h-pylori. They wanted to get rid of it before my op so I went on what they call triple therapy, 2 types of antibiotics and a PPI. After the op the histology showed that it hasn't been eradicated and now I'm on quadruple therapy which is the same again but with bismuth. In total it's 10 pills a day and they are giant. One of them tastes so bad it leaves a taste all day no matter how many times you brush your teeth. I am feeling awful from this. I think it would be difficult for anyone but trying to do this with the sleeve is awful. The pills are so large and disgusting that I need a lot of liquid to get them down but that makes me feel so nauseous I can't eat. I also have diarrhoea. Finally I have insatiable hunger but mixed with nausea so that I can't eat but when I force myself to the hunger doesn't go away anyway. The pills feel like they're stuck in my throat. Sorry for the long post I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone through this treatment.

    H-pylori bug

Part of my pre op test was an endoscopy and it came up in that. I had never even heard of it to be honest but I had gastritis type symptoms for quite a while and the doctors suspected it was gall bladder issues which it turned out not to be. They then said it might be IBS which they didn't really seem to know what to do about. So when they came back and said it was h-pylori it made sense and it seemed like an easy enough thing to fix. I assumed the antibiotics I had beforehand would clear it up and it was fine to take them then. It was only because the histology came back after the op and said it was still present that I have to take this therapy. If you had an endoscopy before your op I think you can assume you don't have it. Also I'm sure your surgeon follow up will give you info about your histology -it might not require an extra test. But don't worry about it, I'm having a hard time with this now but a lot of people have this and don't even know. @2shea October is ages away the treatment is maximum 2 weeks and absolutely fine pre surgery! Good luck!

    H-pylori bug

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds it hard, I wasn't sure if I was just being a big baby about it!

    Newbie here from Ireland

Hi I'm irish too! I had surgery (sleeve) a month ago and I feel great. I've been living abroad for years though so I didn't do it in Ireland, however I did explore the possibility. I decided not to do it as I don't have VHI there and it was a very long wait and hugely expensive. It's different for everyone so it's difficult to tell you it will all be fine but my own experience has been that I was very scared of the surgery and it wasn't half as bad as I feared. I was up walking after I came round from the anaesthetic and it did hurt but the pain was managed really well. I didn't vomit or anything and was able to drink water. I came home from hospital after 2 nights there. I needed plenty of help in the days after just because I was very tired and my incisions were slightly painful. But within a few days I felt a lot better. I've only told a handful of people about this surgery not because I'm ashamed but it's not as common in Ireland as elsewhere and I don't want to have to explain my decision or constantly talk about the operation or my weight for the rest of my life! I would say it's your decision completely who you tell, and the weight isn't going to drop off you overnight -you'll still have to work at it and it will come gradually so it probably won't be as dramatic a change as you think very fast (although everyone is different). For me, I'm really glad I had this surgery even though I'm still very early on in the process. I feel that my tastes have changed and I don't crave the same junk I did before. It's great to feel full and satisfied after eating a healthy meal! Best of luck with whatever decision you make but don't worry about the surgery, it really isn't as scary as you think!

    Protein struggles

I find it really hard too. I'm finding edamame beans, chick peas, kidney beans and small handfuls of unsalted nuts good. Greek yoghurt with a handful of Brazil nuts and some raisins is a really good breakfast. Hard boiled eggs in a salad, hummus. It's definitely difficult though:(

No weight loss, unable to eat more

I was pretty surprised too, to be honest. I've spoken to the nutritionist and the doctor and they felt it was worth trying. They told me to stay away from spicy food and bread and gave me sample menus and my target calories and macros for each day. It's actually been completely fine. I was nervous but I haven't felt sick or hungry once. I think this pain is related to air because I felt it even on water and soup stage. Aside from the pain which is lessening now, I generally feel much better since I've been eating solids. I have my follow up with my surgeon tomorrow and they contacted me today because the histology from my op came back and the h-pylori I had before the op hasn't cleared up yet. I was on antibiotics to try and get rid of it before surgery but it's still there, so that might be contributing to the discomfort. Anyway hopefully the stall won't last - as Nevermore says, I'll have to lose weight at under 1000 calories so I'll just have to trust the process!
  12. I'm almost 3 weeks post sleeve. My recovery seems to be good in that I'm already eating solids and they don't feel any different than soups or purees. The problem is I can literally eat two bites of something before it becomes painful. I'm chewing lots and eating so slowly that I have to reheat every meal but I go from really really hungry before eating, straight to so full I feel like I might burst and I have to sit still for almost an hour. It feels like the food is stuck in my chest almost, and when it reaches my stomach it's just like waves of pain. This even happens with soup. I'm not struggling to drink my water and I'm getting about 1.5-2 litres a day. My main frustration now is I haven't lost any weight in over a week. I think im eating about 600 calories a day but i cant eat anymore with how uncomfortable eating makes me. I've been reading about stalls but I've tried eating more carbs etc and nothing is working. I know I'm early days still but I'm losing heart, it's very frustrating.

No weight loss, unable to eat more

I have my follow up the day after tomorrow so I'll discuss it with him then. I thought I might not be ready for solids either so I went back to soups and still get the same feeling, almost like it's air being trapped there. I'll see what the surgeon says, just wanted to see if it was a common feeling.

No weight loss, unable to eat more

Thanks Glamgirl I hope the same for you!! I'm doing well with my water but definitely struggling with the protein as I'm vegetarian so it's not easy but we'll keep trying. Hugs!!

Moving to next stage of eating

Well I've been eating food since posting this and I'm relieved to report everything has been great! I'm finding it a big change to eat really slowly. I was never a fast eater but I need to slow it down to the point where the food is going cold! But that's a small inconvenience and I'm so relieved that so far I haven't had problems with anything I've eaten. It's shocking how little I can manage but that's the whole point I suppose! All in all it's going great. Xx
  17. Hi everyone. I've loved having this here as a resource I think I'm on it 10 times a day So thanks everyone! I'm now 11 days post sleeve and I've been eating pureed soup, starting with thin and strained and now fairly thick but still blended, and protein shakes with no problem and feel like I could eat solids for sure. My dietician just sent me my diet sheet for the next 3 days and to my great joy it has boiled chicken and mashed potato. I've been so hungry since the op I'm really excited to eat some solid food! My question is that it seems soon compared to everyone else from what I'm reading online and that concerns me a bit. Did anyone else begin that phase at this stage? Just FYI my programme does seem different to a lot of people's. I didn't do a pre op liquid diet just low calorie until the day before and then I had no food at all
  18. Hi all I'm new here! I had my surgery a week ago and overall I think im recovering well, I'm sleeping, walking, and drinking water. My problem is that when I eat strained soup, shakes or even water sometimes, it seems to hit the top of my pouch (I imagine) and although it goes down it causes fairly intense pain for a moment followed immediately by this wave of the most intense hunger I've ever felt. I'm hungry all the time anyway but this is the type of hunger that makes you feel you might throw up, if that makes sense. The liquid then comes up a little bit but I don't vomit and it'll go back down again. I haven't felt not hungry once since the op which is getting me down but this pain is making it difficult to even eat the tiny amounts of the soup etc recommended by my dietician in order to curb that hunger. Anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance.

1 am post sleeve , strange pain when eating

Hi all thanks for the replies. I spoke to my doctor and like Jess said it's acid. He put me on a tablet (not a PPI I can't remember the name I'm sorry) and now it's fine.
