  1. I have just started the Soft Food stage and every time I eat a meal, about an hour later I feel lethargic and kind of yucky. Not really sick but not good. Right in the middle. For example this morning for breakfast I had 1 egg fried with pam, and 1/2 an avocado. It went down no problem, but about an hour later I feel like I could curl up and sleep. Just a touch of yucky feeling but not really sick. I hope i'm explaining this right? Is this dumping syndrome? and what could be causing it? I haven't overate, nothing high fat or surgery.
  2. Hi all, today is my 1 year anniversary. I am down 57 lbs, and all my issues have resolved. I feel completely healthy with absolutely no eating or "exiting issues" anymore. I still weight train 3 times per week and run 5 kms 2 times per week. AMAZING that I can do this. This is the best i have felt since I was teenager. Best decision I ever made!
  3. Hi all, I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 25 pounds. I find I have very low energy by mid morning and this lasts until around 4 pm. I am taking my vitamins and iron religiously, eating the right foods and making sure I have my required protein. I think I may be losing too fast, considering I am a low BMI (33) when I started. I wanted to start back at the gym by week 6 but all I want to do right now is curl up in bed and sleep. Has anyone else gone through this?
  4. Hi again. The meds only helped as long as I was taking them. As soon as I stopped the problem came back. Is this devrom safe? How long can you stay on it? Is it for life?
  5. Thank you for this information. I too, have begun to eliminate foods I think are the culprit. Sadly the very first thing i stopped and started to just test was COFFEE. It breaks my heart that I can't drink it anymore but I finally know one thing that's causing me problems. It's probably a good thing that I can't have it anymore, coffee is bad so this ends up to be a good thing. I will be watching my food intake and seeing which affects me the most and continue the elimination. I will be reading more about SIBO as well. Thank you for your post, I appreciate it.

    Low energy

Wow, you are doing so great. Congratulations. This MGB was a life changer for me. Absolutely happy with my decision. Keep up the great work, I'm sure you'll hit your goal weight.
  7. Thank you for this. My Dr put me back on prescription meds. He said this shouldn't have gone on so long. Two weeks of strong meds and hopefully this will clear up.

    Low energy

Yes. the homestretch. I can't believe were I am. I haven't been this small since my early teens. Oh yes, because of the quick weight loss and my age, I definitely have loose skin. But I am working out and trying my hardest to fix this. I know it won't completely tighten up but I'm ok with that. I find it has been easy, mind you I also work to lose weight. I don't leave it up to the surgery. I work out 5 times per week, drink lots of water and really watch my intake. If you use the surgery as a helpful tool, you'll be successful. How are you making out? Are you feeling better?

    Low energy

Sorry, for the late reply. I am now 4.5 months after surgery and everything has fallen into place. Tons of energy, still losing weight. I'm 11 lbs from my goal weight. I have started back at the gym a couple of months ago, and now that we are on COVID lockdown, I am working out at home. I have so much energy that I can't help but exercise. Things are great! I hope things will as smooth for you as they did for me.

Thank you, I needed to see this.
  13. I am only 6 weeks out, but I have the same problem. I talked to my surgeon and he prescribed Cotazym ECS, Amylase & Protease & Lipase. This is very effective, but I also have to keep my intake at very low fat and sugar. Try this, it helped me.
  14. That's exactly what I was thinking.....that new foods/textures is a shock to the stomach. I'm sure it will pass as i move towards solids and my stomach becomes accustomed to the foods.
  15. thank you for the suggestion. It's just good know that I'm not the only one going through this.
  16. Thank you for this suggestion. I will give it a try. I love tea.
  17. Good morning, I go in for MGB on Thursday this week. I've been on the shakes for 11 days but only lost 8 lbs. I did cheat with one pizza crust and some potato chips. (just this in the 11 days) I drink more than enough water throughout the day. I am getting scared that if 'm not losing on Optifast, what if I don't lose anything after surgery? Has anyone else gone through this? Is this normal? I've seen where other people have lost twice this in the same amount of time.
  18. I had my revision done on August 27. Absolutely no pain. The only problem I had was nausea afterward. I don’t handle narcotics well. I ended up dry heaving for the first day. But day 2 hit and it was all forgotten. I’m doing well, following the all the rules therefore swelling is going down and a few pounds down already. Starting to get energy. Looking forward to the next 3 weeks.
  19. Thank you for this response. It makes me feel so much better.
  20. Hi all, So I've decided to have gastric bypass after lap band removal, but now the question is do I get the Mini or the RNY? I already regret getting the lapband in the first place and feel that I could have saved myself money and another surgery had I just bit the bullet the first time. I don't want o go half way again? Has anyone regretted the MGB and revised to RNY? Reflux was a major issue with my lapband. Also, I am presently between 195-200 lbs (lost 60 with lapband and regained 30) what kind on weigh loss would I expect with MGB and RNY? Any advice, thoughts, would help.
  21. this is so awesome to hear. I'm looking forward to not feeling stuck with every bite.
  22. Thank you to everyone who has responded to my post. I appreciate all of your thoughts and advice. I have decided to go with the MGB and I am booked for surgery on August 27th. I start my shakes tomorrow. I am so looking forward to this change. I have high hopes and high expectations on myself. Once again, thank you for your help!
  23. I'm sure some of our experienced patients can offer some insight on this. I feel that bypass is the way to go for me, because i have issues with GERD. We just need to really follow all the rules and make an effort to eat consciously. This will ensure the final surgery is successful in the long run.
  24. I have been thinking a great deal about my lap band and the struggles I've had for the last few years. I had my lap band surgery in 2013. I lost 60 lbs and everything was great until 2017, when I traveled to Hawaii. The flight messed with my lap band and since then I can't seem to get it right. I had another surgery to fix the placement of the lap band because it slipped but that still hadn't gotten me back to my original success. Since this time, I've had fills and defills and nothing seems to work. I travel allot (before Covid) and the flights always mess with my lap band. Right now, I am waiting for another fill but can't get it because of Covid. However, I'm having issues with the band. Some days I can't eat anything, not even coffee, the next day I'm starving and everything goes through, bread, pasta, chicken etc. I checked in with my Dr, and she says that stress and hormones are a factor in the band tightening. Well, I'm hitting menopause so my hormones fluctuate ALLOT. I have diligently tried everything. I have been following all the rules, eating protein; small bites, chewing etc. I'm getting tired of this constant back and forth. And to top it off, I'm gaining weight again. I am considering having the band removed. A friend suggested revision surgery to gastric bypass. She had it done and she doesn't have any problems anymore. I also heard that some have the gastric sleeve. What does this group suggest?
  25. That is great to hear. It gives me hope. Congrats on great weight loss and most of all, on the freedom of feeling good while losing.
