I hate it when people post just to post.....

Froggi, I was banded on Oct. 1 by Dr. Nease at Cabell Huntington Hospital. I am getting along great. My incisions are beginning to itch (I've always heard that's a sign that they're healing). I'm on full liquids. Go back for return appt on Oct.10. Take care. Dixie

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Hi MarybnSC, I had surgery on Oct. 1 and I'm taking 2 weeks off. I work as a nurse in a women's maximum security prison. I went into surgery about 1pm and was on my way home by 5pm.
  5. Hi, My name is Dixie, I am 51 years old and I live in Pt. Pleasant, WV. I have relatives living in Longbottom, Brad and Staci Holsinger. I had the Realize Band placed on Oct. 1 at Cabell Huntington Hosp by Dr. Nease. Do you have problems with certain foods? How much weight have you lost? Thanks.

  6. How many protein drinks do you take in on a daily basis, do you go by the grams of protein or what? I was banded on Oct. 1 and am drinking 1 protein drink that has 60 grams of protein and I drink water, soy milk, sf popsicles and real thin cream of wheat. Just curious. Dixie

    ?ctober ?dyssey 2008

Hey everyone, Good luck to all the Oct. banders. I had mine done yesterday, went in about 1:00 and was on my way home by 5:00pm. I am doing well, still a little sore, I'm keeping full liquids down. I was only on a pre-op diet for 2 days (clear liquids). I had my surgery at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV by Dr. Nease, he is a wonderful surgeon. I have to stay on full liquids until my return office visit on Oct. 10. I haven't felt hungry yet, I haven't had the bad gas pains that I've heard so much about (at least I haven't had them yet). I wish you all good luck with the surgery and a speedy recovery to all. Dixie:thumbup:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Glad to hear about the 50 & over gang. I am 51, had my lapband yesterday (Oct. 1). I'm a little sore today. I have not had any gas pains yet, I have been belching, but nothing else. Could someone tell me how to add the little tickers to my posts to show my weight loss progress? Also do the October band group have a name? (I saw some other posts with Smashing Pumpkins) but don't know if that is for all the Oct. bands or not. Thanks, Dixie

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

I was banded yesterday. I am a little sore today, no gas pains yet:-) I took a dose of the liquid lortab the Dr. prescribed last night and slept well, that is, until my cat jumped up onto my stomach (OUCH!). I went to Walmart today, walked about 30 minutes. Glad to hear everyone else banded on the 1st and 2nd are doing well. Good luck to everyone who will be banded this month. Oh by the way, I only had to be on a clear liquid diet for 2 days before my surgery, it seems like everyone else had to be on some sort of pre-op diet for a longer period of time. Could it be because I am diabetic and on insulin? I'm off work now for 2 weeks. I'm so happy to finally get banded. I've been trying to get approved for almost a year and a half. Cigna wouldn't approve me. My company changed hands and we now have Blue Cross Blue Shield and they approved me in about a month. I was able to use the psych eval, nutrition class, etc. that I had done in May 2007. Dixie:regular_smile:
  10. Spayneuter2008, The abdominal binder is an elastic binder (like one would wear with back pain) it is for support because of my bigger stomach. About the 64oz of water, I think you are right, as long as you're getting 64 oz of any type of sugar free beverage, it's ok. Sounds like you're doing pretty good also. Have you had any bad gas pains? I haven't yet, been belching a lot, but no pain so far. I had some thin cream of wheat about an hour ago, so far so good, no problems with it. I got some protein powder today, haven't tried it yet.Take care and email me anytime. Dixie
  11. I had my surgery yesterday, Oct.1,2008. I arrived at the hospital at 9:45. Went into the holding area at noon. I had to have blood work first, it took a while to get the results. The nurse started my I.V., gave me a shot of Lovenox (Blood thinner), checked my sugar, took my vital signs. Dr. Nease came in and talked to me. The anesthesiologist also came in to get my medical history. Then an nurse anesthetist and a student came in and asked me most of the same questions. They gave me Versed, and put an oxygen mask on me. The next thing I remember is being in the recovery room, with the nurse telling me that the surgery was over. It was about about 3:00. I was taken back to the holding area, drank some water, went to the bathroom to pee and got dressed. First they put an abdominal binder on. I have to wear it daily until I see the Dr. again. I was given a prescription for liquid lortab and did take a dose last night. I slept well, I slept on my back with 2 pillows, I'm used to sleeping on my side so I did wake up a few times. I take a lot of meds, nothing changed except my Lantus insulin, I was taking 65 units a day, now I'm taking 30 units daily and have to record my blood sugars 3 times a day and take them to my return appt. I am not hungry yet. I am taking fluids well, I was on clear liquids yesterday and can start full liquids today. I'm off to GNC to get some protein shots. I can drink 1/3 of a tube 3 times a day and get 60 grams of protein. I was told to eat 6 times a day, and to take in at least 64 ounces of water a day. So far so good. I enjoy reading all the posts and have been waiting to have this surgery since May of 2007.:cool2:

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

I have been approved, my surgery date is Oct.1. But, I am having some problems with HTN and have to see a nephrologist. My appt with him is 9/25, my pre-op education appt is 9/17, my pre-op dr. appt is 9/26. Hopefully I'll get to have the surgery on Oct.1, as planned. I am an RN in a womens max. security prison and my DON says I need to take 2 weeks off work after the surgery. I am happy to have the surgery approved, but then again I'm worried about the kidney problems.Good luck to you. Dixie

Anyone from the WV/OH/KY Tri-State area?

Hi, I'm Dixie, I haven't had the lap banding done yet. I just got new insurance and don't know yet if all the labs, psych eval, etc(that I had done last year )will be able to be used. I am 51 years old and am a nurse at a women's prison in Mason County WV. I am going to Dr. Nease at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Write to me anytime.

    Wow! You look great!!
  15. I was turned down by Cigna, I had all the pre-op tests last year. My medical insurance is changing to Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Sheild soon, if they will pay for the band, will I have to have all new tests?
