  1. Welcome! Glad to see another self-proclaimed geek girl around here.
  2. I do all the same things! Plus, at home I only weigh before my shower because wet hair weighs more. Lol
  3. Lol! Perfect!
  4. Day 3 - watch a performance? Not really any opportunity for that today. But my husband and I have been rewatching GoT past seasons (yes we're watching the new season too), so I'm going to count that this evening. Other than that things have been a bit stressful... my trusty laptop gave up the ghost yesterday. We're still helpful that we'll be able to salvage my hard drive (all my writing, pictures, lesson plans for a class I lead at church), but I'm very bummed. I have limited back ups of stuff because I'm an idiot. And add to that, McD's messed up my once-a-week coffee (2 sugar rather than 2 splenda) and I drank it all before I noticed so now I'm feeling completely gross (blood sugars spiked). Other than a nice 3lb loss when I weighed this a.m., it's been a rough 24 hours.
  5. Are you on any meds for diabetes or high blood pressure? Dosages might need to be adjusted. I'm on day 2 of the all liquid diet too, and am a bit loopy... felt like my blood sugars were low while I was grocery shopping (a new kind of torture). Checked my sugars when I got home, and they were actually high. Turns out that my once-a-week coffee from McDonald's had 2 sugar in it rather than 2 sweetener. [emoji35] Now I'm just praying it levels out soon because I feel like crap.
  6. I live in central Alberta. I've seen snow in every month except July (and I'm sure it snows in the mountains in July). Less than a week ago we were using the bbq and my wee-lings were wearing shorts and tshirts to school. Spring and fall are fickle... We don't plant our gardens until after the Victoria Day weekend.
  7. Exactly. We have to look for those non-scale victories when the stalls hit.
  8. Weekdays are easier for me at the moment as I'm a SAHM and getting through without family distractions is helpful. My cycles have been erratic for the last couple of years, due to perimenopause, but if things hold true to my luck and the pattern I've been on, surgery day will also be cycle day 1. Fun times! Eyes on the prize, as my grandfather would say!
  9. For me, it was anxiety about leaving my husband with two small kids if I were to have a heart attack. Rather dramatic, I know, but it was ultimately what pushed me over the edge to ask for the referral.
  10. Hi! I think we're surgery twins... May 16th! I started phase 2 of my liquid diet (5 meal replacement shakes, 200 cal specific veggies) today. For the first part of my liquid diet, I struggled a bit initially with cravings. The worst has been cooking for my family and not being able to join them. Now I've become pretty good at distracting myself. Any time I feel cravings or hunger that can't be fed at the moment, I do a mini workout. Some stretches, a few wall push ups, or some marching in place. It helps a bit. As to the vitamins, definitely check with your surgical team. I am to stop mine 3 days prior to surgery, and then all but one of my prescriptions the day before surgery. The nerves are real, but this is a good step. Good luck on your journey!
  11. I'm not into camping... I'll go out to a campsite for the day to hang out with my family, but then I like to head home, sleep in my own bed, and have a nice hot shower to wash off the campfire smell :). As for bears, I hear ya... bears and mountain lions are always a possibility if we head an hour or two west. Although, my scariest camping experience was an 8yo, I was trapped in a campground outhouse by a flock of wild turkeys, with my little sister who was terrified of the outhouse. Very traumatic ?
  12. I'm not an outdoorsy type of person, but I do love being with my extended family around a firepit, telling silly stories and laughing until my cheeks hurt. Hopefully the weather will smarten up because we have a big family event planned for the Mother's Day weekend (MIL's 80th bday).
  13. Day 2 - Make some art. My creativity takes two directions... cooking for my family (thankfully the wee-lings are adventurous eaters) and writing. I'm planning on a bit of both today. Making a casserole for the freezer for post op and I'm going to do a little work on my romance novel that I've been plugging away at since last fall. 5 push ups and one (of three) walking workout done. The attached is the view out our bedroom window at 2am. I'm quite ready for this nonsense to stop.
  14. In my program, full liquids are things like cream soups, yoghurt (no chunks of fruit), refried beans, cream of wheat, unsweetened applesauce, etc. Hope that helps.
  15. If you haven't already, I strongly recommend (along with pre-op pictures) taking your measurements before surgery. I started taking my measurements once a month in January, and as of today I'm down 17 inches overall. I can't wait to see what June 1st looks like!
  16. Back in January I started recording my measurements. Today I'm down 17 inches... [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. It's a bit chilly outside today (spring cold snap complete with a blizzard a couple of days ago) but I'm going to drag myself out there anyway. As for the push ups, I hope wall push ups count, because that's all I can do right now. And nothing on the junk food list is on my pre-op diet, so they have been banished from my life.
  18. Ooo... very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
  19. Never had whataburger (don't have them here), but popcorn is my weakness and it's not on my pre-op diet at all. That hasn't stopped me from having some a couple of times in the last couple of weeks though. Thankfully the only popcorn we have left in our house is a package of microwave popcorn, which I find revolting. Today is my last day on my hybrid diet. No more food funerals for me. Time to buckle down.
  20. I'm looking forward to more shopping opportunities (only two decent plus size stores here) being able to leave diabetes/high blood pressure/high cholesterol behind saving $$ on prescriptions/food/plus size clothes not getting winded bending over to tie my shoes being able to keep up with my husband and kids being able to attend events like fan expo/comic con and not be in agony after a short time being able to order my cute geeky t-shirts in women's cuts, rather than the boxy men's cuts not worrying regularly about dying before my children get into middle school
  21. I guess I'm a rarity, but I've told everyone in my life and talk about it regularly on FB. And so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. There's really only one person in my life who's been negative (in a passive-aggressive way) and I know it's all about her worrying that I won't be the biggest in the family any longer.
  22. I'm going to sign up again, and hopefully I will do better in May than I did in April. *sigh* I'm currently pre-op, although my surgery is on May 16th. I know I won't be doing much in the way of activity (certainly not push ups) in the last couple of weeks of the month, but my goals for May are: lose another 5 lb before surgery (currently 245.6) by being very strict with my pre-op diet hit 12000 steps every day before surgery, and to walk at least 10 minutes 3x per day after surgery (more hopefully) finish prep for my family for post-op (finish spring cleaning and making freezer meals for them for the first 2 weeks) keep a positive outlook during and after surgery, and to be kind to myself.
  23. Hello all, I'm a couple of weeks away from having surgery (rny), and I'm trying to find some products/brands that will fit with what I'm allowed to have for my post op diet. The thing is, being in Canada, many of the brands mentioned on these boards aren't available, and I'm a bit flummoxed. For example, I'm trying to find some sugar free popsicles to have on hand, but I've struck out at my three usual grocery stores. Are there products, like sugar free popsicles or protein powders, that are your go tos? Things that you can find in Canadian stores or from Canadian websites?
  24. Congrats! Thankfully, I've already gone off one (of three) diabetes meds and my hbp meds have been cut in half. Hopeful that after surgery the others will be unnecessary quickly after surgery.
  25. My surgery is a little over two weeks away. I've been on a hybrid liquid diet since April 1. Phase 2 of my liquid diet starts Thursday (5-6 glucerna shakes and 200 cals of veggies per day). Hopefully it will knock out the last three pounds I need to lose before surgery. I need to get active again... I want at least 12000 steps a day between now and surgery. I've also been prepping for my family, cooking freezer meals for the first couple of weeks post op when I know I won't want to be in the kitchen at all. This Friday I'm going to hit up a couple of health food stores for some samples of protein powders to try before I commit to stocking up on something in particular. Good luck to us all...
