  1. If you are willing to pay completely out of pocket for the surgery your BMI is not as important. A cash payer can go to a willing surgeon with a BMI of say 33 and request WLS and there’s a good chance the surgeon may do it. A good surgeon would still evaluate your history including previous weight loss attempts and so forth. Insurance companies have strict requirements in order for us to qualify for these surgeries, one of which includes BMI. It depends what you are willing to pay for surgery it seems at this point.
  2. My surgery was rescheduled twice. The second time shaved four days off of the liquid diet for me. I was really worried that my liver would be too large, but the surgeon was able to do my bypass without difficulty. I remember asking him the next day how my liver looked lol. Get back on plan, you’ll be fine. I’m sure lots of people have a nibble here or there. It’s a huge change going to a liquid diet. I found eating warm items like cream soup if you can have them helped me feel less hungry.
  3. Lots of surgeries coming up still. Praying everyone else that has had surgery this month is doing well. Don’t be shy, come update us how you are!
  4. As a nurse in a hospital, this is unacceptable and needs to be reported to the charge nurse or supervisor. No patient should be waiting an hour for pain medications. So sorry you are receiving such poor nursing care.
  5. One thing I have realized reading these forums....we all have differing amounts of pain, especially as all of us have different levels of pain we can tolerate. I had a lot of burning, stinging pain at an incision on my right, but no gas pain as I was walking so much. Others had lots of gas pain, or left side pain. How I have measured my progress is this....Am I improving daily? The answer is yes. Follow any restrictions. Take your medicine as prescribed. You should see small improvements daily. I am one week out today.
  6. Thanks to everyone for all these great ideas!
  7. Thanks for this. These last few days post op have been difficult and this cheered me up a bit for some reason.
  8. Yup. It was the scopolamine patch. My vision is ok now. Good to know for anyone else. Still having a lot of right sided pain which seems unique. Just taking it a day at a time and trying to be patient.
  9. A hematoma is a collection of blood in the tissue. You are basically waiting for it to resolve on it’s own. Take your pain medicine and walk and follow the surgeons activity orders. They can be slow to resolve, but it will slowly go away on its own. I’m not aware of anything to speed the process though. Hope you feel better soon.
  10. I’m day 5. Day four and 5 have been tough. Lots of nausea, pain is tolerable but I’m so nauseated.
  11. Thanks for the tips. Once I’m off of clear liquids I will definitely be mixing with yogurt or SF pudding. Its so difficult right now as I can’t really drink a lot at one time. Can’t wait for this part to be over!
  12. I have one incision on my middle right that is a bit larger than the others. It burns like wildfire when I stand, sit, walk, etc. The others are not as bad. This seems common that one incision area will be worse. My surgeon said yes that’s the “stinger” when I told him about this one on my right side. Some of us are here pulling through with you, don’t worry!
  13. The banana premier protein is my favorite so far.
  14. Well I’m 3 almost 4 days post op and we are instructed to crush all our medicines and mix with liquids before taking. One of my medicines appears to be extra super bitter and disgusting when crushed, almost making me vomit when I try to take it. So my question is this....What are your tips and tricks for getting through this crushing medicine phase? Ive been really nauseated today to so it’s been tough to drink my Water and such let alone swallow that stuff with bitter pill powder mixed in.
  15. Yes it’s been hard to post while in hospital. I’m not sure if it was the anesthesia or what but my eyesight has been very blurry if I’m trying to read. Doctor says probably four weeks for me off of work because of my job. Sending good vibes everyone’s way for their procedure this month...we have a bunch.
  16. Had my surgery the 2nd. Just got home tonight. Doing ok, pretty sore on the right abdomen, I suppose it’s normal. Drinking my water and some protein shakes.
  17. The first few days are the toughest. After 4 or five days you will get used to it. Maybe it won’t be easy, bit you will be used to it.
  18. I drank a combo of pure protein shakes, and ate lots of Greek yogurt. I ate jello, broth , sugar free pudding, etc, i had surgery yesterday ?
  19. Awesome! Well my operation is over. I’m a bit sore in my tummy. Up walking tho without difficulty just a bit of nausea and dizziness..
  20. Here at my preop appointment after night shift and two hours sleep! Power through!
  21. Well this has been a rollercoaster. First my surgery was on the fourth. Then it was moved to the seventh. Now today I woke up to work my shift and the office manager is calling me and they want to move my surgery to Saturday. Apparently it’s an elective procedure so I can be bumped all around.... I’m a bit stressed and anxious now ?
  22. I chose bypass for myself. Although not diabetic or having gerd, I have struggled with my weight my whole life starting at about 11 or 12...maybe not obese but always a bit larger than everyone else my age. My surgeon gave us the information on both procedures and I researched them both and I feel bypass will get me where I need to be. Best of luck to you.
  23. You may consider looking into if your area has a bariatric support group. Sometimes programs have monthly meetings where you can go and speak to people that are in all stages of the operative phase....considering it, fulfilling insurance requirements, post op, maintenance. It’s a great way to talk in person with a mix of people in each stage of their journey. Our group is led by the bariatric program coordinator. You may have something similar near you. Good luck no matter what you decide!
  24. Your face is much changed even after only six weeks! Look how much bigger your eyes look while smiling in your second picture, how much thinner your cheeks are, even up by your forehead is thinner. Way to go!
