  1. I haven't really lost in 3 months (I lost; gained it back, lost it again- and I'm in the same exact place I was 3 months ago. What's different is that I'm snacking. And I'm not good snacking. I'm craving cakes and cookies and the bane of my scale- crackers any time anything feels a little overwhelming or stressful. Willpower is a wonderful thing - It's failing me though and I'm giving in often. Even still, I'm not exceeding about 12-1400 calories per day. I can think of no other reason for stall. I'm 5'4". Starting 270; 265 surgery day, 180 today. I still have about 45 lbs to lose. So- what's your go to method of dealing with head hunger, stress eating, and the cookie monster?

    Barely, but it counts!

    Heck yes, it counts! Congrats!

    The weight on my mind

I haven't had any surgeries due to weight loss YET. But I will. I've had other plastic surgery in the past though and it has been my experience that some doctors are better than others at getting things covered by insurance. Maybe it's tenacity or maybe it's thoroughness or maybe it's just better demonstration or wording- have you tried working with a different surgeon? I know it's tough when you want something so badly- we work hard to reach those weight loss goals! I hope something changes for you soon.
  4. This happens to me as well! I still gravitate towards the plus sizes and reach for the XLs first. Before the surgery, I told my husband about all the fabulous shopping trips I was going to have. I came home sad and empty handed time after time because I couldn't wrap my head around a smaller size. That has probably been the hardest thing about the weight loss! I still want to gravitate towards plus sizes and I'm still reaching for the XL's first. He goes with me now, which has been fun and it has helped a lot
  5. December 2017 here! All is well! Thanks for checking in, Jade! Congrats BlueCrush! How amazing that you're at goal already! FabNFit - You can do it I'm not at goal yet. I don't know if I'll hit it before my one year, but I'm 85 lbs down. And that's OK. (I've come to terms with this after lamenting for an extended time over not being a 100 in 6 months loser). I've worked out regularly since about February, which may have affected the numbers. Size wise, I'm down from a 22/24 dress to a 12/14 in most brands. Right now, I'm struggling with a very long stall. I've complained a lot. And whined a lot. It doesn't help. lol. In retrospect, I realize I might be stress eating and eating when not hungry and loading carby/sugary things because I'm TIRED. All the bad old habits. I'll work on them though and hopefully have a better run for October.

Turtles, sloths, DMV lines, my weight loss...

Great poem, Frustr8 Here's mine! I do not like that stall, is all! I do not like it here or there. I do not like it anywhere. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing a very long one. And I've less carbed and more carbed, less cals and more cals, exercised more, moved a little less. And these pounds just want to hang on FOREVER. I haven't had any real loss since July. Or any inches. I'm just sort of hovering in the same place. I'm trying to chill and be OK with it though as it's certainly better than where I was this time last year (+85 lbs and barely able to walk). Just kidding. I'm weighing myself every day and begging the universe for a number drop. But congrats on 153lbs lost! That is AMAZING!

All I want to eat is cheese!

At least it's not cookies (me. sad.) The Ricotta bake is a good idea- I also like it with zucchini. If you're on solid foods (I was eating anything by this point), maybe a taco salad with cheese on top. Cheese doesn't have to be terrible- get lower fat varieties. I liked cream cheese or laughing cow wedges on bell pepper wedges or celery stalks.
  8. I had this fear before surgery too. I'm sure a lot of people do! Don't let it scare you - it's a temporary thing that you can handle! For me, the pain was no exceptional. It was several days of fatigue- and feeling like I'd done A LOT of crunches. The fatigue was worse, but since I'd taken time off from work, I simply slept right through it. It wasn't unbearable by any means. Once leaving the hospital, I didn't need pain medication to get through. Don't be afraid.

    Waste Food

I follow a lot of these tips too - the small plate, splitting meals with family if we go out. I also adopted 2 new thoughts that help me with accepting food waste: On throwing it out: Better in the trash than on the thighs. In your belly isn't doing the kids in Africa any good either. On lamenting spending on just a few bites: If fat me was worth the price, then thinner me is too. (Or: I am worth the cost of this meal, even if I can't/won't eat all of it. )

    Damage Done?

Hi! I had surgery in Dec 18. I don't have an answer for you - I'm actually here for the same thing! I did want to let you know you're not alone in it though It happens! I lost 6 lbs between June and August. I gamed them all back the first weeks of August. And I dropped them all around the last week of August. Not an ounce since! I'm not going back to liquids, as this would be the equivalent to a slider in my opinion. (Which wouldn't matter, I suppose, if I'm choosing low/no calorie things). I thought about cutting back carbs (this IS where I am doing something different- open faced sandwich or piece with a salad). It isn't a lot of calories that I'm consuming that way, but maybe it's affecting me in other ways. And back to the very basics- measured, to boot. Simple protein, simple steamed veggie. I know others will probably chime in with advice or maybe even instructions for a proper reset- I hope you find what works for you! Best of luck!

    Flinstones multivitamins??

I'm 8 mos post-op. In general, I have a history of intolerance to most multi-vitamins- my doctor thought it could be the binders used. I've been taking flintstones (2 a day) with an extra 100mg b1. This was recommended by my doctor. Recent bloodwork was perfect. It's possible that the bariatric vitamins are better or have more- but if you can't tolerate them or if you're not going to take them, then they are useless to you. Also, 2 days of no vitamins isn't the end of the world if you waited on a re-order of your usual. (And of course- something is better than nothing!)

    Intolerance to Artificial Sweeter

I use stevia too and if you want something that's quick and easy flavor in your bottled water, TruLemon is great. It's sweetened with stevia. I can't tolerate aspartame and similar sweeteners (even before surgery) but I have no problem with stevia.

    Fast food

I like Wendy's- I get a small chili (no cheese, crackers, or sour cream) or I get a half berry salad. I also go to Subway sometimes and I get a salad there.
  14. I don't really need anyone to tell me how awful this is, but I did feel like venting my frustration with myself. Today, I totally binged. I wasn't even hungry and yet I ate. All day long. And not even good things. As soon as I didn't feel full anymore, I felt the urge to eat again. And I KNEW I wasn't hungry. I just wanted to feel full. And I'm not even talking good choices. I'm talking chocolate chunk cookie from wendy's, small chili with 3 packs of saltines!, white cheddar popcorn, a slice of pizza, salad, another chocolate chip cookie. And probably something else I've forgotten by now. Also- sweet tea. I know better than all of these things. Does anyone else ever experience this? What triggers it for you? While I can't control something that's stressing me out, I can control how I react to it, so I'm looking for tips For others who experience the desire to binge, what are some things you do to distract yourself or turn that off?
  15. oopsydaisy

    Today, I totally binged.

Yum! I like salmon this way too. I also like to mix a little pineapple juice with soy and a little ginger and marinate in that. I broil it for about 7 minutes. Also, so good!

Thank you all for the positive words ♥ Today has been easier and I feel better armed for these things going forward!

    Modesty question

This is an interesting question. I still like some of the same styles. Before surgery, I boasted to my husband about all the cute new clothes I was going to buy. I fantasized about how fabulous shopping was going to be when I could choose most anything in the 'normal' section, rather than the picked over dregs in the plus sizes. It turns out that shopping for new clothes has been the hardest part of this whole experience. I avoided it until everything was literally falling off of me. I had a hard time wrapping my head around smaller sizes for my body. As I'm coming to terms with this (thanks to my hubby who ushers me to the right sizes), I find that I'm getting more 'fitted' things, rather than oversized flowy things to hide in. I'd say that's much less modest.

    Hospital must haves

I wore the same clothes home that I wore to the hospital. I barely had them on any time at all. If I wasn't sleeping, I was walking or getting settled in to sleep. I took a light robe, as the hospital gown isn't for the modest and I appreciated having that when I was walking around. Everything else- socks, wipes for bathing, toiletries- was provided by the hospital. I could have taken just the robe and the lip balm and had everything I needed for comfort.

    TODAY SUCKS!

Hi Don't be so hard on yourself! We forgive ourselves and move on. The pre-op diet isn't easy. If it was, we probably wouldn't need the doctors or the surgery anyway. Try to keep temptations at bay- no reason to keep the left over chinese or bagels around This is really terrible and I shouldn't even admit it, but I will. If it's tempting me and I'm having trouble resisting it, I shove it right in the trash. (much to the dismay of my kids, sometimes. lol.) No one is touching that! ew!

    How often do you eat?

I really appreciate the answers here. Thank you! I was finding that I was not recovering from work outs well and I'm just generally well fatigued. I think a little more structure will help me plan for better options. And I won't feel like a mass failure for eating lunch or something
  21. Hi, everyone. I'm close to 6 months out. My last visit with the doctor was in March. He recommended only one meal a day. I have no protein goals or calorie goals or other guidelines other than to stop eating before I'm full. It's the thought that counting calories puts one back in 'diet' mode when we should just learn to eat naturally, intuitively. Naturally, I'm hungry more than once per day! I've found in attempt to stave off hunger, I'm grabbing less than healthy (aka: quick) snacks that are lower cal that a meal might be. And I don't feel I'm losing as much as I should. I've tossed around the same 3 pounds for almost a month now. I've found this ridiculously hard to do, especially on work out days. I know everyone's doctor recommends something different, but I'm curious if anyone else has been recommended once daily. If not, what's your plan? Do you have protein goals? Calorie goals?

    Hi

I had surgery a month and a week before you. Started at 265. I'm 199 as of yesterday. Also guilty of weighing ever day. I have grumbled about being a slow loser too - and I have mentioned before that I want to be one of those 100lbs gone in 6 months sort of people. I'm not We have to learn to focus a little less on the scale numbers and a little more on the inches, sizes, and overall wellbeing! Are you measuring inches? Have your clothing sizes changed?

Recommendations for sugar free treats please

SF Popsicles and SF Jello are my goto. I buy the jello already made in the little snack packs - no work for me. I also like yogurts. Not sugar free, but low in sugar. (some.)
  24. It's a good thing you're doing this for you and not for him then In my experience, the surgery isn't disabling, so if he isn't there to wait on you hand and foot once it's it said and done- no worries. Getting up to get your own protein shakes and jello is good for you. You'll need to move some anyway! Also, you can still love food! You'll just enjoy smaller tastes of it. And- you won't fail! Men! Who needs them? (Disclosure: I do like mine most of the time, but we can disagree too.)

    NSAIDs

I discovered I was allergic to tylenol during my recovery from WLS. I also suffer chronic headaches and migraines. OOPS. I talked to my doctor about it and he gave the OK on nsaids. I've been taking motrin since about a month post-op. I've taken Aleve on occasion as well. I didn't experience any issues at all. I don't take it every day though, but often several times per week.
