Question about hiatal hernia
I too had the sleeve, hiatal hernia repair, gallbladder removal and regular hernia repair at the same time. None of them were that bad although any pain I did have I couldn't tell you which was which pain.

Almost 60 and getting sleeve on 4/24/18
Welcome. I was almost 68 when I had my gastric sleeve August 2017, along with gallbladder removal, hiatal hernia repair and regular hernia repair. It wasn't bad, I stayed 2 nights in the hospital. The worst problem was at home sleeping in bed just didn't work. I sleep in a recliner for at least a week. Pain wasn't too bad either.

Has anyone taken this journey alone? Tips?
I agree you will definitely need someone with you when you leave the hospital and perhaps to pick up a prescription or two. Get your supplies in beforehand and other than leaving the hospital and maybe picking up a prescription you will be fine.

How important is it to have a companion (family or friend) during and 2-3 days post op?
I w 68 when I had the gastric sleeve, hiatial hernia repair, hernia repair and gallbladder removal. The only things I needed people for was picking up a prescription and pick up and drop off at the hospital. Otherwise I did it all on my own. My family is all out of state but I wouldn't have wanted anyone there anyway. Barbara

Anti Turkey Neck Cream
Not sure if it works as I remember to use it seldom but gold bond has a neck cream that seems to help.

Post op nerve damage/pain anyone?
Yes I had it in one leg and one arm and it is miserable. It lasted probably about 4 weeks and then gradually went away.

I had the gastric sleeve, gallbladder removal due to gallstones, hiatal hernia repair and regular hernia repair all done at the same time on August 2. I guess it is just the doctor's preference.

Coffee after surgery: days, weeks, months?
I had a gastric sleeve and could have decaf coffee right away. Unfortunately it did not agree with me. I waited 2 more months and tried regular coffee and it still didn't agree with me. I keep trying every few weeks. For now I am drinking tea which is ok but I want my coffee back! Barbara

Advil? Tylenol?
Nothing else but advil works for my arthritis so my doctor is allowing it. I was only supposed to take omeprazole for 6 months but if I take advil he suggests just continuing with the omeprazole for as long as I take advil.

multivitamin that won't make me gag?
I had lots of problems with vitamins. I am now using Centrum liquid. Don't care for the taste but it doesn't make me nauseous. Barbara

Am I too old to have VSG
No you are definitely not too old. I am 68 now and am now almost 3 months post sleeve. I think I am losing slower than a lot of people but that comes with being older.

Taking vitamins makes me nauseous!
That didn't work for me.

Taking vitamins makes me nauseous!
I started with I think it was called Nasocobal because it had B12. My insurance paid most of it and I paid a copay and besides the B12 I got calcium, magnesium and something else in combination, iron and multiple vitamins. They have both the chews and pills and I got nauseated with both. So now I just take citracal ( I don't know the brand for calcium), Iron I don't need. The multiple vitamin is Centrum liquid and I think I am going to try the one of the under the tonque B12. Good luck! I think it is a lot of trial of and error unfortunately.

Taking vitamins makes me nauseous!
I am almost 3 months post sleeve and have been having lots of problems with the vitamins. For me one problem was the multiple vitamins. I have tried several brands and all made me nauseous. I just tried Centrum liquid and so far so good on that one. I was also having trouble with the one that was composed of calcium, magnesium and something else. I am now using Citracal instead. My doctor also recommended a liquid one called Bluebonnet. I haven't tried that since Citrcal seems to work for me. Try and narrow it down and see it one or more is making you sick.
