  1. My apologies for not posting on the 7th! It was the day after surgery and I may have been busy that day Naturally I weigh-in every day and I was 272 on 7/7 starting:278 goal:250 Thanks! I'll remember to post tomorrow -Raquel
  2. I was told to stop drinking water at 10pm the night before by the team of people who were going to cut me open, so I didn't bother to complain, surgery was around 9am or so. Yes, I drank a lot of water at 9:59pm, but that was in preparation for post op in case I had issues with getting water down. My question is this: Who is honestly so unquestionably dehydrated prior to surgery that they are unable to go 13hrs without water??? You're sleeping most of that time anyway! Where is it that the temperature is really 45 degrees? I was in Tijuana and it only hit 37...
  3. Well I'm in my clinic room with Netflix for the evening, we go back at 7am tomorrow to our hotel.. surgery was surgery, I kind of slept through the whole thing. I didn't wake up in an ICU so I'm assuming in went good. I have been walking the hall lots hoping the gas pain in my abdomen goes away. I've been given ice chips and water and electrolite water and unfortunately everything that's passed my lips makes my stomach really hurt, hoping that'll pass by the evening. The staff are great, and the other patients in the clinic are so awesome..
  4. I'm from Canada and I was kind of going for something speedy, my province can take years to approve you, but after all is said and done, the Alberta govt program covers it essentially 100%. Privately having it done is around $20,000.Tijuana took 30 days exactly from first phone call to surgery, and I just paid the $9,000 cash.
  5. I can let you know tomorrow? my surgery is in the morning, just at flew in a few hours ago. I'm with Dr.Ariel Ortiz with the OCC, for anybody that's curious, Tijuana is a ****-hole, but the Marriott they put you up in is gorgeous! They'll feed you broth, whether you want it brought to your room or served to you in the restaurant so your companion can also eat. There's a wal-mart super close by. The hotel will bring me popsicles and jello anytime, and the bathrooms are nice and big!! Unfortunately the woman I came with who brought her son went to a different hotel because the Marriott is full right now, so I don't have a surgery buddy unless I see her tomorrow.
  6. I've also heard before about rubbing scars to break up the tissue and I tend to forget about it. Great advice!Thank you!
  7. I love food prep! What all have you got made there ?
  8. Hahahaha I am currently on google with "what does 80 grams of protein look like" The answer is, a LOT The sad part is that an egg white is only 3.6 grams . Thank goodness for chicken breasts, tuna and beans because I can't stand yogurt and it's so highly recommended all over the place for protein.
  9. Odd question, but..how DO you release the gas? Do you just walk around farting? lol
  10. yes thank you @TheUnrealJohn , I thought I was the only person who was like way too in my head about nonsensical things. Funny that I've even wondered the same thing about espresso, we have it at work instead of drip coffee and its fantastic.. I wonder about foods that I'm not going to like anymore and I specifically think of salt and vinegar chips. Occasionally I think it would be easier if I could just nap through time, and wake up right after surgery.. I read half way through 'The Big Book on The Gastric Sleeve', btw the first half is just a gigantic list of possible complications, a tad unnerving to say the least, I try not to read it before bed. I wake up in the morning and post op is literally the first thing on my mind...2 more days.2 very long days hahaha

Did you guys want some cheese with your whine?
  12. Not always, sometimes through the navel only, Perhaps like a bypass when sometimes they do the old fashioned way where they cut you from the belly button to the chest line and open you up like you're a miniature box of cereal (In honesty I would get a surgeons opinion, laparoscopic is the least intrusive way to go as far as I know, anyones pictures will show how minimal the scarring is, and look very impressive)
  13. June 30th Current Weight: 275.8 Goal Weight: 250 Surgery in 6 days, very excited and slightly nervous about a bunch of people poking around inside of me with sharp tools haha
  14. You're more than half way there! Great work Hunger comes and goes. A complication during surgery because of not following the plan might last forever. I'm on the 6th of July so I'm in the same boat. Every time I get through a craving I give myself either a mental or sometimes literal pat on the back. These experiences are all small successes and deserve to be acknowledged, you'll be done in no time!
  15. I think I've cried more in the last 3 weeks (usually at romantic comedies) then I have in the last 3 years combined haha. I wasn't told to stop my BC, however I take get DepoProvera. Have you emailed to see why? Is it specifically because they are pills?
  16. oh heck yes, I had bought an all natural organic 100% pure jar of peanut butter right before I decided surgery. I had learned the trick to pour all the oil off the top to lower fat a lot, and I did. For the last week or so, I've had a small spoon of peanut butter almost every day, teaspoon at most. Its so unbelievably thick from the fridge that it takes almost 10 minutes to slowly eat a spoonful. I enjoy every second of it. Besides that, the only other cheats I did were on day 1 of my all shakes, then all easily edible food was removed from the house or thrown in the garbage. Down 20lbs in 3 weeks so I don't exactly feel bad about it (well secretly I feel a little bad..)
  17. Okay so it's come to my attention that I'm not sure how to edit this post more than once, can anybody help me out with this? I'd really appreciate the help Or am I just going crazy? I think support from the other people going through this is important, and I want everyone to be able to connect with the people who might be going through this at the same time if you want. So this isn't meant to be more than informative in case you want to message or follow people having surgery in July. If I've made any mistakes I apologize, just message me and I can edit the list There are certainly noticeably busy days! If you'd like to be added msg me, again sorry if I got an incorrect date, I just wanted to try and help because there are a lot of threads about July, and it's fast approaching. 18. I read through all of the July surgery posts, made a calendar and started writing down everyones awesome day Congratulations on changing surgeons, I hope everything works out extremely well with the new change!
  19. I had to lose 15lbs, she wants me to be at 280 for surgery. I essentially quit sugar cold turkey. After about 3 days I knew what foods I just couldn't stop eating in my house (I'd grab a handful of trail mix, all candy, cheetos etc) and asked my fiance to take it all to work. Now I was without sugar, and my nutritionist listed the veg I couldn't have (corn, potatoes, snap peas-essentially high carb veg, and no fruit). I lost all 15 Lbs within the first week without sugar. I ate meals that were small meat portions, and vegetables. If I was hungry I'd munch green vegetables, or even grab a pre made portion of protein from the fridge. I more or less learned how to stay out of the kitchen eventually after learning that opening cupboards wasn't going to make snack food magically appear. We don't have snacks at work at all, and my fiance would never let me eat sugar at home haha

  21. Are you flying in the day of? I'm scheduled the 6th and fly in on the 5th. Perhaps we will cross paths!
  22. Same surgeon for me. He's got some decent YouTube videos as well. It's like meeting your surgeon before you go down there. I'm from Canada, and after our crappy exchange of .76 it totalled $9300.00 . In my opinion you likely get what you pay for, plus a private clinic in Alberta will cost $19,000 and up so it's still the cheaper option.
  23. I cook for one, not a veteran, but I've spent my fair share of time alone, or needed lunches etc. I prep on Sunday typically, after grocery shopping, portion everything into ziploc bags or tiny tupperware, and then organize on a single shelf in the fridge. Even snacks I portion (typically hard boiled eggs, they smell like farts but I love the taste). Its a lot of vegetables, and it is just very easy to grab and go as opposed to a bunch of whole vegetables sitting in my fridge going bad because it was easier to grab something else. Oh! You know what, I've seen some pinterest 'bariatric recipes' that would be great to cook and portion down for one Best of luck!
  24. When I first spoke to my nutritionist I was given a 4 week food plan, the last 2 weeks are 3 protein shakes a day (18g protein, 0.5-1.5g fat depending on the flavor, and <1g sugar) plus dark green vegetables at in between times. I have literally scheduled out my food in order to remember to drink/eat as I get light headed often. I don't want to take the risk of getting super hungry, walking in the door and ruining my liquid diet by stuffing my face with whatever is convenient. At 8am, protein shake and vitamins,10am-snack,12-protein shake,2pm-zucchini (yes the whole thing, uncut), 4pm-shake,6pm-green salad, or I just fill my shake from 4pm that is unfinished with water and call it done for the day..Voila. Its been the only way I can manage to get the recommended amount in. I don't chug any shakes or water because I know after surgery I won't be able too, so I take my time. My first 2 weeks of pre op dieting were Atkins, and I was more strict than I've ever been with anything, which meant about 6 days of intense sugar withdrawal. The first two I barely ate, I was so tired I spent all weekend binge watching netflix on the couch, extremely thankful it was a weekend, and thirsty, holy crap was I thirsty, but every day of that experience was a different adventure I tell ya. Tired, Thirsty, Cravings,Mood swings, crying at romantic comedy movies. Then eventually it was all over.. I've had my days of eating nothing because hunger just never came up. Hence, my food schedule. Sorry if this is not helpful at all, it is just what worked for me. I know there are some members on here who have fantastic advice to give. Plus congratulations on the surgery date!
