Leaving dieting behind
I think it is great that you emphasized this point. Now it will be more clear to anyone reading this thread that they should follow their Doc/Nuts plans to be successful losing their excess weight. I have decided to stay away from these controversial threads, but I just wanted to say thank you and Good Luck on your journey. I hope you are successful keeping the weight off and remain happy.

May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
Thank you!!! We will need all the prayers we can get...lol There will be 3 of us leaders along and one 19 year old volunteer so hoping we will have all of our bases covered. We usually only take the kids for weekends, but this is a special trip with all of the different clubs in our church conference coming, so there will be lots of kids around. I will be sure and try to post some photos during the trip.

I am going to take plenty of my own food to supplement. We have something at every meal I should be able to eat, but there will be lots of carbs too. Sandwiches for lunch, which I will be prepared for. I am looking forward to it, but I know 6 nights camping with 12, 10-15 year olds will be a good test of my endurance and patience. My grandson and my niece will both be along, and it will be Isaiah's first camping trip. It will be a blessing I am sure. I want to be prepared though.

Here I Go (My Journey Thus Far)
This may explain why you were in the bathroom a lot. Drinking a shake too quickly was something that caused a similar problem for me. I would still drink them a little slower.

I think that is the best course. I hate the negativity. It is like some people just can't let anything drop or agree to disagree. Life is too short to let some stranger on the internet effect you so strongly. It feels like some people are back to high school days with all the drama they create..

Yay for the gym time. I bet that workout felt good. Eggs are good for you so keep eating them...lol... I go through stages and eat them a lot and then go 2 weeks not. Since I have chickens they are always available. I think eating meat every once in a while especially if you are craving it is not a bad thing. Most definitely if it is turkey My dh will take a picture of something before he buys it just to make sure he got the right item...lol he doesn't want to come home with the wrong thing. Our men sure are sweet I had a good day, but I have been so tired this afternoon. I ran 2.6 miles this morning and the heat really did me in. I have been sewing patches on my Pathfinder uniform trying to get ready for the week long camping trip we have coming up the first week of August. That is going to be a big test for me. Trying to eat good and well away from home with camp food.

I only had a one week pre-op diet and it wasn't all liquids either. I was allowed to eat dinner which was 4oz protein and 2 oz vegetables. The day before surgery was all clear liquids. I think I lost 6 pounds that week.

@Newme17 you have said this so much better then I have been able to. You have a gift for expression in writing. I agree 100% with everything you have written here. We will live our lives and as a part of that of course we will have treats every now and then and make some poor choices. The point is we will have changed. Those foods won't control us anymore and our treats won't be half a bag of Doritos or 3 pieces of cake. I am so glad you brought up the exercise part of the equation because I BELIEVE it will be very important during the maintenance part of our journeys. If we make it a habit now then it can only help us then. ?

I am losing hair too. I have thick hair though so I am not too worried. My nails look horrible though?Thin and splitting. I am worried about lose skin too. I also think my face is gaining some wrinkles. I guess like you said, we will just have to wait and see how things tighten up as we go along. Have fun at the gym tonight!

When my kids were the ages of yours I wasn't even thinking about grand kids yet. It doesn't really seem all that long ago really.. the years have flown by... Grand kids make you think about all the things you wish you had taken the time to do with your own kids. It is almost like a chance to do better. They are the best bonus to having kids. They have taught me that taking time out to play and just be silly is good for the soul. We are off to church. Have a great Saturday everyone.

I love making a eggs for dinner. I often do just what you did and throw in a lot of veggies and cheese...yum. Eggs sit heavy on my stomach and I can only eat about 3 oz also. Great job @Newme17 with weighing. I think sometimes our eyes are still bigger than our stomachs...literally..lol My grandson spent the night last night and he kept me busy. We played hide-n-seek with all the lights off... lol.. it was fun. We have a spare bedroom right across the hall from ours, but he preferred to camp out on the floor of ours.. I was stepping over him this morning.. My grand kids keep me young and I love them. I feel blessed to have them living so close.

You are right in that it was probably head hunger. I had a little of that at first, but it seems to have gone away. I think the longer you go without eating carbs, sugar, whatever your craving, the desire just goes away. I feel so much more in control of food now. I can eat steak also just fine, but I am trying to limit red meat to two servings a month. I think some of us just heal faster because honestly I haven't had a problem eating anything as long as I eat slow and chew well. One thing I have noticed about restaurant food is the sodium levels are high. You may hold onto some water weight for a day or two after eating if that was the case. I still eat out occasionally and I haven't had a problem finding healthy selections. I was "hangry" all day yesterday. We use this term for how you feel after working out. I snacked a little more than usual, but I did keep it healthy. I think some days our bodies just need a little more fuel and as long as we don't go crazy we will be fine.

I have always used my scale. It is a more accurate form of measurement if you really want to know how much you are eating. I might weigh out 3 or 4 oz of food, but it doesn't mean I will eat all of it. Then I can simply re-weigh what is left and I know how much I ate. If I just used volume I wouldn't really be able to figure that out easily. Not everyone likes or needs to be as precise as I am. I think as long as the system you are using is working for you, stick with it. and welcome @Missy161. It is great to have you posting on our thread.

Definitely start weighing your food if it will help solve that issue with one bite too many. I think this is a constant learning situation for a while. I had an experience on Monday where I almost vomited for the first time because I ate too much salad. I had weighed it out, but I guess when it comes to salad 3ozis too much. I was eating too fast or I probably would have noticed I was getting full. Are you tired because you worked out or had a rough day at work? Maybe up your protein a little bit and see if that helps? I sure hope you feel better tomorrow.

Ok, point taken.

I've Lost It Today!
No it wasn't you. Someone else on this thread said don't listen to all the idiots giving advice about what not to eat. It's ok though. I have tough skin. I just brought it up to make a point.

I've Lost It Today!
I never extrapolated anything. I commented based on the information in the original post. I was simply wanting to offer a caution to the OP. She replied with more information and said she was fine case closed. I don't think my post was out of line at all. It isn't about making someone feel guilty, but offering honest advice while also not just saying hey don't worry it is ok to go ahead and eat a couple of donuts if you want as long as you feel ok about it. Did you read the link Greensleevie posted? I have heard very similar advice from veterans and great doctors alike. We can't keep eating junk and expect to be successful long term. A treat once in awhile sure, we are all human. Will we make mistakes? You betcha, but I would hope my support system of friend here would speak up and tell it to me straight especially if I posted about it. I always try to be respectful in any post I make or advice I give, but it doesn't even matter because giving advice gets you called an idiot around here.

Why do we fall off the wagon? & How to get back on?
I have to respectfully disagree. It don't believe we all fit into this category at all.

I've Lost It Today!
I certainly wasn't guilt shaming anyone . My point was that we can't continue eating junk and expect to be successful long term. The link that was posted was good reading and great advice for all of us.

I've Lost It Today!
Thank you for posting this link. I know I am still early in the process, but I have been doing my research and Dr. Weiner says the same things. You can't keep eating the same foods that got you overweight to begin with. You must change your eating habits to have long term success.

I've Lost It Today!
So everyone here that gives advice to those who post for help are idiots??? I don't even have an answer for that except. Good luck.

I've Lost It Today!
I agree a treat once in a while is not going to hurt anyone, but the OP said she ate 2 donuts. In my mind that is way more than a treat. Honestly most people of a healthy weight don't pig out on sweets that is why they are a healthy weight. The further out you get from surgery the more you will be able to eat so I am guarding against getting back into the habits that got me overweight in the first place. I intend to live my life to the fullest also and the only way that is going to happen is if I maintain a healthy sustainable diet and exercise program. I am happy that you are able to indulge and keep losing weight that is great. I feel better than I have in 10 years so I will keep doing what works for me. There are no chains on me and never will be. We all make our own decisions everyday.

Why do we fall off the wagon? & How to get back on?
I understand what you all are trying to convey, but I also understand where Jeffrey is coming from. I don't think it is a bad thing to be determined to conquer our weight problems. Enthusiasm and motivation is never a bad thing. Sure as newbies we can't know the future and we need to be making the changes now that will stick with us and always be aware of the pitfalls. I am not doing this for anyone's compliments so for me when they stop I am going to be perfectly finewith that. My motivation is my health and getting fit. I think we are all on the same page here. We must remain vigilant because as time goes by it will be easier to over eat and gain weight back. Establish the good habits now with diet and exercise so we will have a solid foundation going into maintenance.
