  1. I had a blood test a week post op, and that showed up for me too. I googled it, and apparently it's really common and caused by the weight loss. The liver processes the fat. At least I hope it's true!
  2. Nausea is really common. Not everyone gets it. You might mention it to your team and they can make recommendations as to what to take. Also, take note of changes in diet to see if there was a trigger. Good luck, hope you feel better!
  3. We need more details. Sick how? Fever? Pain? Vomiting? Tiredness?
  4. Lucky you having the pouch.. I have the sleeve, so have to get something like this!
  5. You poor thing! Avoid cheese for a while yet. The egg might have been a trigger too. Next time you try egg, make it egg drop soup. Since you are getting gas at the evening meal, is what you are eating then different from earlier in the day? You need to start eating more times a day. Even if the only thing you can stand is broth, you should be drinking a quart of it a day. (Preferably homemade so you can control the sodium). This is a full time job for you to keep trying things so you can get your nourishment. Keep trying different types of protein powders and drinks. If all you get is gas, don't let that stop you from eating. Do eat right up until 2 hours before bed. I'm assuming you had the bypass?
  6. Some herbs may be contraindicated prior to surgery, particularly ones that have blood thinning properties. Like Marinagirl said, please discuss this with your surgeon.
  7. I also found it easier to sip as I walked. Within a couple more days it will get better. Congrats on the surgery!
  8. Another thought... There are other kinds of animals that have a pouch. Any marsupial: Wallabies, possums, koalas, wombats, gliders, tasmanian devils
  9. Sorry, had to jump off and didn't quite finish. We were thinking a boxing kangaroo to represent the struggle, and then I thought what if he had a medal to show he won? Here is something similar, but instead of the shirt, he should have a medal around his neck with your pounds lost # inside.
  10. That is better. My hubby recommended trying a boxing kangaroo.
  11. What time is your last meal? See if you can move it to at least 2 hours before bed. Use the last 2 hours to catch up on your water (or maybe warm herbal tea).
  12. Amazing!!! Congrats!!! How long did it take?
  13. Please do NOT take alka-seltzer! I heard of a patient that died due to it. The gas bubbles expanded his not-yet-healed stomach and popped some staples! They do make dairy free protein powders. Homemade broths can have lots of protein and taste good. Once you are cleared, try thinned refried beans.
  14. How is this going now?
  15. It's worth trying a ketogenic diet to see if it would help before going under the knife. Complications from surgery are no joke, and so surgery really should be relegated to a last resort... Especially for a very young low BMI person. What is the harm in trying a diet for a year or two... The surgery isn't going anywhere....
  16. Yes! I feel this way too! And, then there is the added,"be careful what you wish for, because even if/when you get to goal, there will be loose skin!"
  17. I worry about this too for my future. I think it comes down to wearing minimizing clothing. Compression and shapewear. Good luck!
  18. My plan specifically permits steak at 8 weeks out. Beef is permitted earlier as long as it's crock pot tender. Cheese is proving harder on my sleeve than beef. Lol.
  19. You are only a week out and were just vomiting for three days. Don't put anything in that's thicker than plain milk. Can you tolerate milk? If so, spend the next two days just drinking that and water. (Personally I don't mind the fat in 2%.. Personal choice). Drink a couple quarts if you want. This early out, it's all about healing.
  20. Ok, so during the first 6 months, as long as you are staying on plan, I give you permission to completely ignore the upward fluctuations on the scale. As you weigh each day, you will find that for every two pounds that go down, it will jump up 1-3 pounds before that. Weight loss is a dance... two steps forward, one step back. It's just how the body works! I agree with Matches. I didn't weigh myself prior to surgery, so gained a ton without realizing it. I now weigh every day. This is good during the weight loss phase. During maintenance, weekly might be enough. I record my weight each Monday, but I write down the lowest # I saw on the scale that week, rather than just what happens to be the Monday #. By doing it this way, I can actually see that for all the jumping up and down of the scale, the loss is pretty linear right now at 6.5 weeks postop.
  21. It really wouldn't help, even if they could do it (which they most likely can't, sorry.) It is common to regain a little. But since you need to lose more, you are going to need to change your lifestyle. Go back to basics. Protein first, plenty of water, veggies, and exercise. Cut out the empty carbs and sliders. You can do this!
  22. Update.. Even though the shirt was comfortable all day, I woke up with sore muscles. Lesson learned: definitely wear your usual size. Still happy with the shirt, I'll just wait until I lose a bit more weight before I try it again.
