    The struggle is real

My surgeon sent me to his bariatrician pre op. She put me on a low carb diet and phentermine. Low carb took care of the cravings for carbs and the phentermine helped with energy and head hunger. Low carb was also a great way to adjust to post surgery eating. I was able to lose 35 lbs in three months.

    Questions

Im losing better with my sleeve than I ever lost with the band. Good riddance to that torture device!
  4. I would not add sugar. It can stimulate cravings for carbs. Have you thought about following a strict keto diet to get the remaining pounds off? I did keto pre op and now post op. Once you are off carbs, the weight melts away and you won't have cravings for sugar. My husband has lost 40 pounds since I started my pre op diet.
  5. As long as there is no sugar it's fine.

    Rash around incisions

Holy crap! Did it clear up on its own or did the doctor prescribe you something? I was prescribed prednisone which did nothing. Basically, had to clear up on its own. My skin was like it had a chemical burn for about 6 weeks. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Rash around incisions

I broke out in a terrible rash over my torso and thighs, arms and even my eye swelled shut. Turns out I'm allergic to the surgical prep they used called Duraprep.

  11. I'm two and half weeks post op and finding that eating again sure is a learning curve. I'm in the "soft mechanical" stage now. Yesterday I could eat two boiled eggs with 2 T of guacamole. Today, nope. And since I wasn't eating mindfully I had a bite too much and earned myself 15 min of discomfort. So now I know just because something worked yesterday does not mean it will work today. A couple of nights ago I was eating a ricotta bake and again, not eating mindfully, I didn't chew well enough and was rewarded with that painful stuck feeling. The other learning curve area I'm finding is juggling food intake. I go back to work next week and hoping I have this figured out by then. My pattern pre op and now is Water, Vitamins, coffee before solid food. Post op I've also be having a Protein shake. At this point I am not hungry and not interested in solid food so not actually eating till after 11. So Breakfast is at 11, lunch is around 2. Late afternoon is another shake, dinner is 7 or 8. As I type this out, it doesn't seem like an unreasonable schedule. I am reaching protein and water goals. This rambling post is mostly for self analysis but feel free to chime in. 14. Pain would not have prohibited me from going back to work after a week but adjusting to eating differently and juggling food prep would have. I am taking three weeks and I'm glad for it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Phentermine AFTER surgery?!

I used phentermine pre op so I wouldn't gain after my band was removed but before I was sleeved. It really helped me to kick start my weight loss and adjust to a lchf diet as recommended by my dr and bariatrician. It totally curbed the head hunger I was dealing with in addition to giving me energy to start moving. It's not a long term solution but if it helps someone get back on track then it's another useful tool in the tool box. My drs practice allows it post op if needed. 19. Mine was 2 weeks of less than 40g carbs per day, 90g - 100 g of Protein. Day before full liquid from 6-midnight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I'm was sleeved 12/27/16. I treat getting my 48-64 oz of Water, 90+ grams of Protein as a full time requirement. I'm holding right at 800-900 calories a day. I know I need now but current restriction isn't allowing that. I eat 5-6 times a day, including 2 shakes. My drs plan says eat that many times a day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Coffee

I drink quality decaf. I get good, fresh Beans and I don't miss the caffeinated version at all. I was sleeved 1 week after you. My plan allows decaf. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  25. 1) I gained all my weight back plus 15. My band worked initially but I could never get a fill I could live with. Even the slightest fill caused food to get stuck. I gave up on fills within the first year. Even unfilled I struggled to eat right. Protein first meant I was throwing up. I learned to eat around the band rather than go back to surgeon and deal with it immediately. 2) I waited 10 yrs from band to revision 3) I started pre op for sleeve 3 months before surgery by choice. I was mentally ready even if I had to jump through all the hoops first. I lost 35 lbs. 4) I've lost 46 lbs. I am 2 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
