Birth control
DONT TAKE BC PILLS. Please. My surgery team warned me about this for a long time. Your body will not absorb the hormones after the DS. I have an IUD instead.

Trying to decide
I've never heard of a DS called a "sleeve plus" but I guess that's exactly what it is. The main issue with the DS is the fat malabsorption. Too much fat in diet = diarrhea. Pros vastly outweigh the cons in my case. I've lost 50 pounds in the first 2 months.
-
Honestly did anyone CHEAT on their liquid diet and was still able to get the sleeve done?
I had 1 week of 5 shakes a day. During that time I ate one French fry and had a cup of broth from Mexican chicken soup. I did totally fine and was able to have my surgery.

Pre Op Binge
I did it subconsciously, but tried to keep it in check. Once the pre-op diet starts, you'll kick it pretty fast. I had a last meal, and then did well with the liver shrinking diet before surgery. Just remind yourself that you'll be able to eat again. Binging isn't the way to go, but a lot of us do it. Just keep yourself in check, and try to do small portions of your favorites.

Ideas on the liquid
I did it cold turkey. 5 protein shakes a day. It's really not as bad as you think once you get past the first few days.

Who will you tell that you are having WLS?
I'm really not shy about it at all. I typically tell people when they ask about my weight loss. All of my family knows. I don't post about it on Facebook or anything though.

Bariatric Brides!
Thanks! I'm beyond excited.

What would you do differently?
I wouldn't have stocked up on the same kind of protein. I have two jugs that I will probably never use.

Bariatric Brides!
That's actually super helpful. I'm thinking buying off the rack was part of the plan anyway, so that solidifies that decision haha

What's Your Favorite Store Now?
I shop almost exclusively at old navy tbh haha. I really like Maurice's, and I can't wait to shop at places like New York and Company and random boutique shops. I still have a hard time believing I can wear a size Large.

Tell me about your favorite sports bra
I really love Torrid's sports bras, but they're pretty dang expensive. I get a lot of my active wear at old navy, and Walmart. Danskin brand at Walmart is surprisingly good.

Bariatric Brides!
Hey everyone! So, my boyfriend (fiancé?) and I are planning a wedding for December. The situation is a tad unorthodox since we've definitely started planning before the official engagement haha. BUT, my question is, has anyone dealt with getting a wedding dress post op? When did you start shopping? How many alterations did you have to get? Our wedding will be right around my one year surgery anniversary. Help!

When can I eat a salad?
I started at 8 weeks when I started my regular diet. I could hardly wait! I focused on the protein, but would have a few bites of the rest of the salad along with it.
-
Sashimi?
Thanks everyone! I tried it once I got to soft foods, and I was very happy haha. Tuna sashimi is my favorite, and I was able to eat it with no problems!

Hunger and stalling
Hi everyone! I'm about a month and a half out from surgery. I had a DS on 12/14/16 with a SW of 260. I'm currently sitting at 228. So, generally I feel like I've been successful thus far with my weight loss. However, sometimes I feel like it's very slow. I stalled for about 10 days, and am slowly climbing out of the hole. I find that I'm having a very hard time controlling cravings (particularly for sugar...) also find that I'm hungry really often some days, and not hungry at all on others. Does anyone have tips for craving control? Why am I so hungry sometimes, and not others? I expected to never be hungry, but I definitely am.

Post-Op Getting Protein + Liquids in
Try Syntrax nectar. It's water and protein so it helps meet both goals.

Mechanical - soft food
I didn't have a "mechanical" phase. What types of food are you eating? I was just told to stay away from coarse fibrous foods, crunchy foods and dry foods during my soft phase. Aka no salad, chicken breast (without gravy or mayo or anything) and no nuts of any kind etc.

Really need help with advancing food
Start and end the day with a shake. That should get you to 40-60 grams. Chicken salad was my life saver in puréed stage, and was full of protein! Eat the puréed foods in the middle of the day, while still trying to get your water in. You'll probably feel like you're constantly eating, but that's okay!

DS Vitamins
Multi ADEK 3x a day, iron, b12, vitamin D, and 5 calcium chews a day. Right now I use all bariatric advantage.

If I had known then what I know now about my DS...
@@jessgnc small world! I love Rex hahaha

I wanna know about carbs... Seriously!
Once your body switches to ketosis, it's perfectly fine to do extremely low carbs. Your body will start to use fat for energy rather than carbs. It's really really easy to get kicked out of keto so it can be a little difficult to keep keto going until you get used to it.

If I had known then what I know now about my DS...
Yeah it definitely depends on the brand, and the office. My doctor also has a store on site, with the same prices you could find online.

If I had known then what I know now about my DS...
The Vitamin kit I got was 125 for 3 month supply! Some have to be replaced periodically, but it's worth it for what you'll save in food I wish I had really known how much better I would feel after even 40 pounds of weight loss. The DS has its quirks (lots of burping for me) but it's so worth it!

Tummy Tuck and Inner Thigh Lift
OP, how long was your recovery? Once I hit goal, I'm thinking of having the inner thigh lift, along with a breast lift and (maybe, depending on funding) having my bat wings removed. Tummy tuck is an option, but honestly not a huge worry of mine.

Sex after sleeve
@@nolaguy I've definitely noticed a change. Less cushion in the bottom=deeper penetration. Make sure you're not hitting her cervix! We've had to make a few adjustments because of that.
