Proteinaholic by Dr Garth Davis
You will get there before you know it. It's hard to imagine that it's only been 3.5 months since surgery for me, I'm sure you'll feel the same at this time as well and to enjoy your veggies!

Was at the grocery store today and ran in to a lady at the vegan/produce area. She gave me such great reviews on so many of the products. I was buying some veggie "hotdogs" (hopefully I can get my kids to like them!) She stated that she went plant based after watching a few documentaries back in April and hasn't turned back since. Now I can't wait to try some of the other items...it really has been fun with the variety of WFPB dishes. There really is no end....?

Totally forgot to take a pic, but I made this awesome recipe today. One of the times I wish I couldn't just eat a few bites! Lol Had to eliminate the bun after two bites so that I don't get too full too quick though. http://peasandcrayons.com/2016/09/buffalo-chickpea-veggie-burgers.html

I too agree. Incorporating more fruits and veggies and making it the star on your plate helps. It's easy that I didn't really care for meat in the first place, but I don't mind having it sparingly...maybe special occasions or if I'm invited to dinner and the main course is meat. I have to be respectful. ?

Not really. I've done away with most dairy....but I am not adverse to having an egg or using them in recipes once in a while. I wish I liked kim chee....my mom used to make it all the time when I was little. Who knows, maybe my taste buds changed and I'll like it these days. The recipe actually sounds good.

I finally finished Proteinaholic! YAY!!! So I can now start How not to Die...when I get to it. But yes, you sharing those points about the pesticides and the scraps are just astounding and makes me want to stay on point with the wfpb diet. I've always been one to not ever want to take prescription meds and even OTC meds just because I always think of them poisoning my body (even hated the fact that I had to take ppi's), but I didn't think about the food aspect in depth before and now that it's knowledge for me, it's hard to think about ever going back.

Hey there lady! Welcome to the thread! I agree, it's one of the best decisions I've made too and I don't regret it a bit.

My prayers and heart are for all those getting hit with Harvey! Even more rain is expected in Houston. If you can get out please do so!

Yeah, wasn't the same experience, cooking wise, but I got the job done. I've made fajitas some time back before surgery using portobello mushrooms with peppers and onions. Used corn tortillas with them. It was really good, but at the time my husband really wasn't on board with WFPB and complained about it. Lol. I think I'll make them again sometime.

Yum! I ended up making beef fajitas for my brother and his family and my hubby. I didn't eat any though, didn't appeal to me. I had some leftover white bean and spinach enchiladas. (I brought my portioned frozen leftovers with me to SA, lol). I can't wait to be back at home to be able to focus in my own kitchen again.

Well the last couple of days has been off, not bad, but just off due to Harvey. Today I had some cold brew coffee, kale salad, roasted pumpkin seeds, & 1/2 c of cheese & broccoli soup. I'm about to have some pistachios in a few mins. I don't think about anything other than "I'm hungry". lol

Follow away hon! ? I'm going against the flow here and I'm loving it too. I personally don't want to feel like I'm always on a diet. In my opinion, it's more freeing not always thinking of the next meal, how many calories, proteins, carbs, fats, etc. Not thinking of a scale number to define how I'm going to feel or what my body is really going through (because fluctuations always happen), is freeing for me. Eating a WFPB diet has definitely helped me to enable the not worrying part, since most everything I eat is pretty healthy. Lots of veggies. Hope I can inspire!

Well, all is good. We're praying for our family members that decided to ride it out. Smh. Very unwise decision! Hope the Lord shows mighty grace. Well, here's what the radar shows right now. The dot on the pic is where my home is.

Update: stuck on 37 heading north. It's been a long day here. I haven't eaten anything decent but my stuffed poblano pepper earlier. A few pistachios and a couple of handfuls of light popcorn. I think I had a good workout from all the running around town this morning, packing, and helping my husband board up the house. I managed to trip over a crack on the driveway and a pain jolted up my left leg, I pray it's nothing, even though 1.5 hours later it's still bothering me. ? Hope you all are having a great day!!!

Well, it's been hectic. Most of the folks are leaving the island right now. Had to run some errands and getting my large dogs for kennel boarding. Packing up important documents and clothes now. We'd stay through it if it wasn't going to linger, but the lingering is what's going to make it a bigger mess with flooding, etc. Got to take pics of everything in my house. I should have done this previously. Usually I have a hurricane prep bad ready to go, but this year, I didn't and it just so happens to be a hurricane. Go figure.

SA is San Antonio. We love to abbreviate our cities here. Like mine is CC. Lol i went to church tonight too. Didn't like it. Lol. First time ever! I hope they don't do it again. I'll have to explain in a pm if anyone wants to know. As for the storm, the well we're not walking in fear, but we're prepared anyway. ?

Best way to Stop Losing Weight
I wish I had this problem! LOL Apparently I'm just 35lbs to goal (according to my surgeon)...we shall see about that! I love how close you are to goal though. All that running and changing your diet surely did it. I should get to running....NAAAA! Not happening, YET! One thing I know, is that you'll figure it out while enjoying it and you'll be able to teach us behind ya the way of maintaining on a WFPB diet!!! YAY!!! haha @Berry78, love your posts here! Funny too.

I'd like to know this too. Although I haven't had a dexa scan, and went to plant protein (obviously a lower protein count--if I were counting), my strength hasn't gotten lesser at all. If anything I feel it's getting stronger. I still do my weights and I'm still building my muscle on a WFPB...so, based on my experience, I don't believe that the high protein has much to do with how much muscle you put on. If anything, IMO it's a overdose of protein for the body that route. My husband is bodybuilding on a WFPB diet as well. He's lifting heavier each week and he's pretty surprised with it all. I surprised myself too last night...I usually lift about 60 pounds on triceps, but I did 80...and all my sets too! Whoo whoo!

Hey everyone. Hope all is well. Us South Texans are watching Tropical Storm Harvey, currently looks like it's headed straight for us. There's talk of it strengthening to hurricane status by week's end. We shall see. Kind of exciting! I LOVE bad weather, but obviously, I don't love the damage. So, we're getting ready here and will keep watch to see whether or not we need to leave. Weather status is a storm surge watch now. (Where I live, we're surrounded by water for the most part), so I'm filling up the tanks tomorrow and getting some foods that won't perish (blah!!!) just in case. Canned beans will suffice. HAHA! If we stay because it's not life threatening, then we'll probably be out of electricity. In my neighborhood, the slightest t-storm sets off the electricity. Imagine a tropical storm? If life threatening, we'll haul out of here and make our way to SA to my brother's house. Other than that exciting news....all is well with my tummy. Went to the gym and did a good workout last night. Debating whether I want to do the gym or go to church tonight. Or maybe do both???

Hope so. Too bad about your brother. I hope he changes before it's way too late. Did you see the special on PBS with Dr Greger? Or maybe it was a video I saw. It showed the lungs of smoker being healed basically (I don't remember percentages) from changing diet to plant based and obviously not smoking. It was fascinating. I'll have to find something on it.

I actually just asked my other brother a question regarding my mom and her health (obesity, cancer, etc). I asked "why doesn't it seem like mom (or anyone else) doesn't want to do EVERYTHING possible, including going on a plant based diet, to combat cancer (be in better health)???" There's so much evidence to support it....I guess not everyone can be like me (or you).

Me too. I just found out that my brother and his wife decided to do a low carb-high fat diet???? (Hanging my head).....I'll be calling them to share some things. My mom of all people (who is a proteinaholic) did tell him that lowering his carbohydrates is dangerous. HAHA! Go figure. I'll send him a copy of the book.
