May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
Sooo, I am not in the gym as I would like to be. Apparently even losing the weight I’ve had, the old injuries like to pop their ugly beads out periodically or if I move the wrong ways. I was thinking of what I can do that wouldn’t wreak havoc on my frail body. Okay, it’s not really that frail, but that’s how I feel currently. I found an app for a squat challenge. I’m on day 6 now and after the first two days, I was thinking to myself “no way is this going to make any difference”—I was doing just 10 squats (day 1) and 15 squats (day 2). Well, by day three, I felt all my quad muscles being pretty sore when I get up and down from sitting. Oh ok...it does work!!! So, yesterday was a rest day (barely moved, lol) and today I had to do 30 squats. Which I did and I felt my heart rate go up. Good!!!! So far so good...if I can’t be doing my weights and cardio the way I’d like to, at least I’m working my butt out (and legs) pretty good. I’ll add in some bicep and tricep workouts that don’t require me to use my shoulder as well. Oh, I decided to start on beginner level 1 on the 30 DAY SQUAT app. I’m sure I could skip a few levels, but now doing this one, I know I should gradually ease into the advanced in six months or so. There are six levels.

I am hard of hearing, both ears. I need captions most times especially with heavy accents. I missed a little not knowing what some have said but got the most of it (wore earbuds and loud). I did try to find cc though and couldn’t either. Hope you find something!

HEALTHY Vegan/Vegetarian Recipe Swap and Pics!
I don’t consider myself one or the other. I don’t care for labels, but I do tend to say whether the dish is a vegan or vegetarian one, as my dear friend @Apple1 mentioned. But it’s ultimately up to the person to figure out a recipe if I decide not to mention it. Also keep in mind this thread is specifically labeled Vegan/Vegetarian.

Yikes! As much as I really don’t care of the calorie content of evaporated milk, it really is pretty high. I may or may not try a substitute next time.

I did use the milk. I teeter totter between vegan and vegetarian meals. This one was awesome, but I’m wondering if I decided to substitute with maybe some almond milk and to thicken it up with a tad bit of cornstarch might do. ???? Not exactly sure what evaporated milk is made of or how it’s made. I guess I’ll look it up!

True dat! Lol. Heres a nice tidbit of info about beans...I need to find it though. The more you eat, the more your body adapts to them, so the less gas you have. So I can imagine those who don’t eat a lot of beans, would have terrible gas in the beginning. But if it becomes a staple in the diet, you’re immune to all that gas. I’ve noticed that I’m not gassy after beans anymore. I can eat a lot of black beans (my fave) and feel quite normal still. Have you noticed anything?

I bought a disc for my chair at work. I forgot what it’s called. In fact it came in today and is sitting in its box still. But it’s to place on your chair and kind of make you work your core. Better posture, better back, etc. I need to strengthen my abdominals. Let me find a pic.

Oh boy....well, that was interesting. Thank you all for posting your links. Gives me more to read up on (even though I’m a full supporter of IF-as I have done it and seen pretty awesome results from it). I’m always up for more info to better my health.

Unfortunately no, I just took a little excerpt from an article. But I’m sure I can find something on nutritionfacts.org perhaps. I’m still amazed on the garlic info. ?

Garlic!!!!????? Amazing info!!!!!!! Eating the equivalent of 1 lb of strawberries a day for 6 months was found to reverse esophageal cancer in 80% of those studied. Considering that esophageal cancer has only a 13% survival rate, we may want to start thinking of actual food as an alternative. What about liver cancer? With “high peach concentrations, cancer cell proliferation drops about 10%, but bananas and grapefruits work about 4 times better, dropping cancer growth rates by about 40%. Red grapes, strawberries and apples do even better, cutting cancer cell growth up to half at only half the dose, but these two fruits are the winners, causing a dramatic drop in cancer proliferation at just tiny doses, lemons and cranberries.” What about vegetables? Dr. Greger found that there is “one vegetable that completely 100% stopped cancer growth in seven out of the eight tumor lines. One of the most important findings of the year.” So which one is it? Garlic. Let me state that again, clinical research showed garlic 100% stopped cancer growth in seven out of the eight tumor lines. Shouldn’t your doctor be mentioning this? All the fruits and vegetables studied discriminately went after cancer cells leaving healthy cells to do their work. Maybe- just maybe, if we start eating better we won’t be getting cancer in the first place

Am I really about to do this?

Pre-op Weight Loss
If you’re going through insurance, be sure to get the specifics with it in regards to a weight loss requirement or not. Your team should know, but you should definitely know in case you’ve been given the wrong info. (I’ve read some stories that didn’t add up). I called mine and got the info for myself (no loss requirement) and followed up with my doc office as well. I lost 15 lbs pre-op anyway.

Am I really about to do this?
Everything you mentioned is normal behavior for many of us. I researched for two years. I canceled two initial appts to finally go on the third and keep this journey going. Thoughts of backing out (cause I can do this if I really just try!!!!) always popped up. But trying on your own success rate is less than 2%. So, I stayed with the program. Had to practice patience through it though, the waiting can really mess with your thought process. Lol. Hang in there! Before you know it, you’ll be done and enjoying you new self. Just stick to the program your doc gives you. ? you can do it.

Intermittent Fasting
She’s further out and maintaining, right @jess9395? So her calories for the day would be much higher (and given that she’s very active physically too) she can do this without a hitch. ?
