  1. I hear ya there Mandy...I would of rode in the rain as well because I really wanted to learn. Besides...we're bound to get caught in the rain sometime while we're out there
  2. xx how was your slippage discovered? What type of test did your doc do to find it?
  3. Mandy you're going to love the riding part. You really do learn alot. There will be times they're going to tell you to do something and you're going be "DO WHAT!" oh yea...you'll be leaning that bike almost on its side and riding up on the opposite side of that bike to make the lovely figure 8. You know...the thing that you'll probably and more than likely never have to do in your lifetime. They had us riding over 4x4 boards too one right after the other. When they ever told me that I thought...ok here is how you learn how to dump your bike hahaha. I hope you have great riding weather because around here they do it rain or shine...I was thankful it was a cool but sunny day. We rode from 7am until 7pm...my arms were killing me when I got home but I loved it! Have fun! Kat....that was a very romantic thing your DH did. I think that's great! Do put up a picture of your new ring sometime - I'd love to see it!
  4. Hey everyone.....I took tomorrow off so I could run around and clean my house for my son's 18th birthday party tomorrow. Need to pick up burgers, hot dogs, buns and sub rolls for meatball subs etc etc. Nerve wracking getting it all done but, I will  Seems funny to ask for tomorrow off when I had all of last week off but, I have over 225 vacation hours to take yet. Tired of not taking days off actually...getting burned out so it's best I take them. Has anyone tried the snack food "Pirate's Booty" ? It's kinda like a cheese curl except healthier for you. 1 oz is 130 calories but, 1 oz is quite a bit. Nice and crunchy if you're going to snack ya know? Just finished some yummy. So this fill of mine has calmed down...to the point that I feel like I can eat a freaking house. WTF? One day heartburn/reflux...now....geesh! I just don't get these bands sometimes. Finicky little things sometimes huh? When I first got the fill I could barely eat or drink for 4 days or so...then TOM came...then bingo I can now eat. I lost 4 pounds then gained 3 back geesh! I guess I was dehydrated. Anywho.....just the tipsy turvy life of band life I guess. So what's everyone's plans for the weekend? I have the party on Saturday and then an IET (Integrated Energy Therapy) class all day Sunday. (It's like accupressure treatment) So my weekend will fly by for sure. Looking forward to having friends over Saturday though. Ya'll are invited if you're in the neighborhood *hint, hint* someone come visit NE sometime ok? lol Work...it's still crazy. I was kinda numb with it all this week for some reason. I guess just getting back from vacation and all. I went through the motions and got my work done but, hoping I'll be full steam again next week. I'm suppose to be moving offices again (4th time since I've been in that building - less than 3 years) Seems I keep downsizing each. I started in a cubicle, went to a huge 20 x 15 office, to one that's about 12x12 to now one that's about 10x10. At least this one has a window  So now I'm waiting for our IT person to move my computers (yeap I work on two..two different billing and email systems) then I can move my personal stuff and files. Hopefully he'll be moving my computers for me tomorrow while I'm out. Then I can move my stuff on Monday. Well DH is out there snoring on the couch....DS is in his room playing video games and oh yea...he broke out with some funky rash on his right side. I'm praying its not shingles  He said it's really sore and it just started. He's had chicken pox before so it's not that but, I know that means he could get shingles. I haven't changed soaps or anything. I'm going to have to take a peek at it again in the morning and he may have to go into the docs just to be sure. Boy oh boy! I'm pooped.....should be making a "TO DO" list for tomorrow and Saturday morning huh? My ExHusband is suppose to be bringing the ice cream cake and munchies but, I haven't heard from him since he said he would bring it. Grrrr I like knowing for sure it's coming and he hasn't responded to emails. Drives me insane! Fortunately the grocery store is around the corner if I need to quickly pick up a Carvel Cake. Suppose to have 10-12 teen boys here all playing Wii plus family for this party. We'll see what happens. Doesn't it aggrevate you when people don't RSVP? grrrrrrrrrrr oh well. I can always freeze the burgers and hotdogs for my son's graduation party next month....then i'm done with parties! (ok for now anyway hahaha)
  5. I started a new MAY 2008 thread for us. Here is the link... http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f51/nj-may-2008-chat-62038/#post826212 See you there. Man we're slacking if I'm the one making the thread..I'm usually the one that's lost hahaha!
  6. Thought I'd start the new thread for us. I couldn't find one already done. Sherry
  7. Kat...absolutely no need to apologize..this is something that is effecting you, your daughter..you're whole family. You're a friend and we're here to lean on sista! Keeping you, your DD and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Love ya!
  8. I had about .65 put in my band. Actually really weird but, the first 3-4 days I had some heartburn again but, now...its as if I didn't have a fill. I feel like I can eat a horse UGH!
  9. Oh and I suppose for some the port can be seen...but that's not the case for me. It's under my skin and yeap I still have some padding so it's not noticable. And think....just how attractive you will feel when you shed the pounds you want to shed
  10. MTVLMOM - It's absolutely normal to be nervous about the surgery. ANY surgery is scarey stuff and you really do have to think about the entire package when having it. But...I can tell you it's the best decision I ever made for myself. We mom's don't always do things for ourselves...instead we do it for our families but, you know what...you need to do this for YOU. Reason being....lapband is just a tool...you'll still need to work at it, make good food choices and yeap that swear word...exercise in order to lose the weight. Sure some will come off at the beginning no problem but, it slows down and we need to adjust our movement to get the weight to move downscale again. I was nervous too...but even more nervous that I wouldn't be here for my son or if I were...I wouldn't be able to function without pain and/or being more sick etc. The nervousness doesn't really stop about the surgery until after the surgery is done...then you know what? WE end up nervous about other things...will this work, did I screw it up, am I eating right....I can only tell you to take one day at a time and it gets easier I can remember two days before my surgery crying my eyes out because I was scared not only of the surgery but, whether or not this would be the answer for me and the biggest thing that got me upset was.....WHY THE HECK DO I HAVE TO DO THIS TO MYSELF IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT? Well......then I came to the realization that I needed help...I needed a tool to keep me on track and THIS was it for me. I'd do good dieting for the first few weeks...then hit a plateau..diet a bit more than blow it because the scale didn't move. THIS tool keep you going because you can't quit (well yea technically you can drink ice cream shakes, eat chips etc if you really think about it but, even then you can't eat as much as you used to prior to banding)..it keeps you on track long enough to kick up the eating right again. I too used to be so out of breath having to take a flight of stairs or walk any distance to my car or store etc...but, that's so much better now Clothes fit better, I have more choices in those too. You can do this! You can definately do this for YOU and for your kids! The best way to get over the nervousness is to ask all the questions that come to you....doesn't matter what it is....nothing is silly or stupid when it comes to Your Health and Your Life so ask away. i wish you the best on your band journey. Goodluck and best wishes!
  11. nikki anything is possible! depends on how much someone has to loose, how much they are willing to make good food choices and how much they're willing to exercise to get there
  12. Marie....that sounds odd to me with your back issues that it wouldn't be approved by your insurance. Is the doctor even going to try to see if it gets approved? If not...I recommend trying another bariatric center or surgeon because BCBS is generally very good to deal with. You know you can always call BCBS yourself to see what the qualifications are for the surgery in their eyes. They will be able to tell you that and also they'll be able to tell you if your employer or whoever you get the insurance through has any stipulations towards bariatric surgery. Some companies allow it others do not or do but, with certain requirements. Good luck!
  13. Hey T-Bird happy almost bandaversary! I've been banded a little over years now and long term I'm still loving it. I went through a rough time with some reflux issues but, things seem to have settled down with that and I was able to get a fill again FINALLY. I'm hoping this helps to kickstart my weightloss once again. YOu've done fantastic - Keep up the great work!
  14. Wow Carol that would get me going as well. Good luck with your call to the docs. Hopefully it's not for something they forgot to tell you about UGH. Good luck!
  15. I've always been told to ask your pharmacist if pills can be crushed or broken into pieces because not all medicines can be. There are plenty of chewable vitamins on the market you just have to find one that you don't mind chewing on. I use Flintstones Complete for myself and I use Caltrate chewables for calcium supplents. For pain meds I've been told we can't use NSaids because they sit in the upper portion of your stomach too long and can cause problems. Tylenol is about all that I've been told I can use other than prescriptions by my doc and even those should be NSaids unless they are in liquid form. My bariatric center also said that any pill bigger than a birthcontrol bill is a no go unless it is chewable or crushable mainly because it can get stuck depending on the fill amount in your band. So it's best to always check with your Bariatric center/surgeon or doctor prior to taking any meds. Even then...if you find you've been prescribed something by your PCP that is a bigger pill as your pharmacist if it's ok to crush or break prior to taking it. Good luck with your surgery and definately ask these questions with your Lapband surgeon :huh2:
  16. Kat so sorry your daughter is going through all this. I do hope they figure out what's going on and soon! She's in my prayers and I do hope she's feeling better soon. Very good way to put the diet/band thing in perspective...thank you for that. Kat you have done so well with your weightloss you really have. You must be so excited about your up and coming TT...oh you're one hot mama already and to think when that extra skin gets taken away how much better you'll be feeling about that. WAhoo for you! Eileen - Sorry to hear you have to put your pet down :huh2: It's actually very thoughtful of you and your family to do that for your pet if she's suffering and not doing well. So many folks let their pets suffer too long because they don't want to see them go. It's a hard decision, one I may face myself someday...I hope it all goes well for you and we're here if ya need a shoulder to lean on. Pat - Hope you're doing ok. Diane/Signgirl- Hope you're feeling better about you plateau and have been able to kick things back into gear. I'm going back to using my bodybugg Monday and I bought a new Biggest Loser DVD to try so my goal is to put that in tomorrow and give it a whirl. I know it's me...not my band...I need to move my butt to burn the cals. Betty - How the heck are things? have you been out riding your motorcycle? I went on the road with my bike yesterday...drove about 3 miles and came back because I was freezin! Ended up on the back of DH's bike cause he blocks alot of wind hahaha. We need to put a windshield on my bike...my mom got me one last year when I got the other bike and we let my friend borrow it. Time to get it back and put it on this bike. Hope all is going well for you! Jessica - How are things going for you? You're doing great with your weightloss and you mini goals! Mandy - How are you healing up? Knee surgery I hear is one of the worse dang ones to heal up from..slow and steady wins the race on that one I'm sure. I hope you're feeling better. Ivan - How the heck are ya! If I'm recalling correctly wasn't your wife getting the band the last time you were on here? Might just be my brain though so straighten me out if I"m thinking wrong. How are you both doing? We have some new folks and I welcome ya'll. I can only get back so dang far with this posting thing so I can get your names to personalize but, I do hope you're doing well. Cindy - Have we lost you to your retirement not really retirement? lol You've got to be the busiest retired person I know hee hee. I hope things are going well for you and they're not too crazy. Darcy - No clue if you're able to peek in or not...but I miss ya! Patty - your computer still broken? Hows the gym job going? Man....talk about motivational place to work! Ok so I'm probably forgetting someone...sorry about that. My memory isn't that great lately lol...getting old I guess or just plain so braindead from working so much. This vacation week has been very pleasant but, unfortunately all good things come to an end and today is my last day. Man one week goes by so freaking fast! I really could of used another week. Didn't accomplish nearly as much as I was hoping but, that's ok too...at least I'm rested. Today just trying to figure out what I can cook for dinner that's different. I'm so tired of eating the same things too boot I have to make sure it's super moist and tender to eat because of the fill this week. It's so freaking weird how finicky this band can be. The day of and couple days after I did all I could to just get some Water down and a few spoonfulls of something soft...TOM is here for a visit which usually causes me to get even tighter but, instead yesterday and so far today I'M STARVING and could eat a horse. UGH. Too boot yesterday my band was allowing quite a bit in my mind for just having a fill. I swear this thing is able to flip up and down and when it's up I can't eat when it's down I can eat more .......wish there were an easy way to know if that's what this thing does ya know? Do you folks go through that...one day can barely eat the next day you can eat more than you want to? I'm sure some of you have this.......fill me in on what you do :w00t: It's cloudy and going to sprinkle around here today. I had a perfect weeks vacation..sunny...warm....today the last day is rainy hmmm whats the Earth trying to tell me hahahahah. What's for supper people? Tell me something new! I'm sooooo bored with the "usual" foods yuck.
  17. Sounds good to me. I just had a fill this past Wed then TOM came for a visit so I'm hoping I'll be up and running for Monday to try the DVD and get this scale moving once again. I'll definately let you know what I think. Thanks for the reply and I'm so happy for you that your scale has moved and you're liking the results of your workouts! We all know how important it is to SEE some kind of result right away in order to keep us motivated..that's for sure!
  18. Thanks! I bought some yogurt yesterday so I'm going to try that later today :huh2: Worth a shot!
  19. Congratulations AllisAngels428! That's great news and great progress!
  20. Hey Kristie...Congratulations on your Surgery date. It will be here quicker than you realize. Good luck!
  21. swstacey...I actually just bought one of those DVDs myself and still need to try it. I guess for me the exercise so far came from picking up the DVD and bringing it to the register :w00t: You've just renewed my curiosity with it and I'll have to give it a whirl and let you know how I make out :tongue2:
  22. jillrn...I recommend you ask your band doc what this could be just to play it safe for you and your baby. No harm in calling to see what it could be :w00t: Good luck.
  23. Hello Singininthe rain - I have HPHC and I went to Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center (BIDMC) for my surgery with Dr. Jones. I highly recommend BI's Bariatric Center. The nutrionists, docs and surgeons have all been terrific and they really work with you and the insurance to get things approved. Good luck!
  24. Hi Liz, The best one to explain anything with your surgery and any complications would be your own physician so ask him the questions for sure! I can tell you that my port is slightly tilted right now mainly because of the weightloss. Ports do flip for some people...if you felt a little pain there is a chance you moved yours. Depends on how far out you are from surgery, how well it was sewn into place...how hard did you do something to cause the pain you had etc. So sounds to me like your doc is doing the right thing by getting it xrayed for you, IMHO. From my understanding people who ended up with a totally flipped port were able to have it corrected in the office too. Good luck!
  25. Shellhisto...I guess I'm not understanding your question. Hardness in the belly? If you mean your tummy is still sticking out well...everyone loses different and for some the losing of weight seems to show faster in some areas versus the others and unfortunately the stomach is usually one of the last places for weightloss to show for most people, myself included.
