Calcium Supplements and Eating Dairy
I am not scheduled to see the dietician and my surgeon until 12/27 when I receive my second band fill. I love dairy and eat FF cottage cheese, FF Fage yogurt or good quality FF cheese daily without issue. Do I need to take a Calcium supplement? Has anyone discussed this with their nutritionist and what guidance did you receive? Banded 10/12/16

Submitting Today!
Unless you met your deductible for 2016 you may want to wait to have the surgery until January 2017. A friend was approved for WLS last December and her doctor said he had a cancellation and would get her in on 12/30. Her insurance counted the surgery toward her 2015 deductible. So far everything has been out of pocket for her for 2016. Good luck and best wishes. Banded 10/12/16

Hunger
Do you like Hot drinks? I drink hot tea or sugar free hot chocolate and it helps me feel satisfied. Oh, I still dream of pizza so I'm looking into trying some of the crust free low carb recipes in the future. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Pre-op diet cheats
You risk going open versus laproscopy if you don't follow the pre-op diet from your doctor. I don't know about you, but the thought of a bigger surgery, bigger scar, longer hospital stay and recovery, more money spent, were enough to keep me on the straight and narrow. Plus, I want(ed) to be successful and that won't happen if I give in to short term thinking/actions. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Ducking in my stomach
When I stand or walk I'm sucking in my stomach muscles. It helps remind me what I'm working toward. It may sound weird but little things like this help me walk away from the holiday treats. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

10 Things Successful People Do
http://www.success.com/article/10-things-successful-people-never-do-again They adapt and change behaviors. They don't choose short-term comfort over long-term benefit. Once successful people know they want something that requires a painful, time-limited step, they do not mind the painful step because it gets them to a long-term benefit. Living out this principle is one of the most fundamental differences between successful and unsuccessful people, both personally and professionally. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

No weight loss
I have to be careful that I don't wash the Protein down too quickly. So I don't drink 30 minutes before or after I eat. This morning I've had a big glass of Water, two cups of coffee and now (after waiting 30 minutes ) I'm nibbling on a Quest Protein Bar. This help me. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

New to the banded life
Yowza, call your surgeon's office and ask if there is a dietician you can meet with. Each surgeon is different and not knowing which of the two techniques your doctor performed tells me you need to meet with his/her office and receive education. By not doing the liquid diet you can tear your stitches, cause your band to slip, and more. Call your doctor. Advocate for yourself. Good luck. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Information session
Like you, I did a lot of research. I reached out to a bariatric center of excellence. I took six months of classes pre-surgery and learned about the various WLS options. I learned about lifestyle changes pre and post surgery and then partnered with my surgeon to determine the best choice for me. I felt well informed pre-surgery and now I am part of a monthly face-to-face support group led by a registered dietitian that is associated with the bariatric center of excellence. I appreciate this online support group, my face-to-face group, and my appointments with my surgeon and his nurse. I suggest you research the surgeons in your area and learn what resources are available to you pre and post-surgery. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Splenda
How much Splenda are you planning to consume in a day? If I'm having fat-free yogurt or a cup of coffee I use one packet of Splenda. If I'm going to bake something I use Swerve. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

How has your family changed since your WLS?
My husband, who is not overweight, is awesome!! We have a food scale, measuring cups, and measuring spoons. He is weighing and measuring our food. I work in a professional position and I can do my job from anywhere via computer, cell phone, WebEx, Facetime, etc. Therefore, I pick and chose which days I go in the office or work remotely. He is so supportive and if I say I'm going into the office he will measure out my food and put it in containers and into my bag. He knows one of the things I have struggled with in the past was sips, bites, nibbles, and tastes. Since he is dishing up the food I am no longer eating an extra spoonful, sampling a taste, licking the spoon, etc. My husband also plans what he is going to eat in front of me. So if he wants a cookie he knows that would be hard for me to watch. He quietly takes his cookie and goes into another room or waits until I'm in the shower, etc. I can smell on Sunday morning that he made toast, and I'm fine as long as I'm busy and not watching him eat it. I walk downstairs and he has a bowl of FF yogurt with blueberries ready for me. I love my husband.

Snack
Head hunger is real, but you won't be successful if you don't learn to overcome it. Surgery is only a tool. You need to develop techniques and new healthy habits or you will be a fat girl with only 20% of her stomach. Do you want to be fat, out of shape, struggling to walk and more because you didn't change your habits? I'm not being harsh. I ask myself these same questions every time I walk by the break room and see the holiday goodies. Don't feel sorry for yourself. You made a choice, now invest in getting the results that come from healthy changes. Big hug of support. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16
