  2. ,@@OCgirl ty soo much for the article reference..my surgery packet instructions include the ketosis liquid diet but it's not individual to me however I can call the clinic or wait until my pre op consultation coming up in a little over a week for better direction. I'm definitely concerned... thanks again
  3. Aww boo good thing you went in and got checked out...good fortune with healing and getting out of the hospital ASAP
  4. I'm insulin dependent diabetic and had DKA before which put me in the hospital....
  5. I'm kinda confused...I've read a bit about the five a D sometimes ten day fast designed to bring about ketosis but it scares me as a diabetic because it sounds similar to DKA or diabetic ketoacidoses. Is it similar? I'm sure it can't be and I'm not understanding. I have the teams surgical nurse I could call but I don't feel much warmth from her so I feel better asking here!!!
  6. Breathe breathe breathe positive guided imagery or mindfulness is good. Helpful for the mind and body to reduce anxiety and relax before surgery...good fortune
  7. Oh I'm so happy to see this thread and so many responses and interactions. I'm biracial African American and Asian. I have a surgeon whose partner is African American but I ended up with the other surgeon for experience reasons. I still have the other one to consult with if necessary. There is also a African American nurse in the office that I like to talk to so this helps me. I wear my hair natural but my hair is weird. It's allergic to a lot. I also get keloids. I get sleeved next month on the 24th. I'm in San diego and I'm 39. I have multiple health issues some weight related. Others not. Autoimmune disease, chronic pain disorders.i was supposed to get RNY but surgeon felt it wasn't a good idea due to my preexisting conditions so we settled for the sleeve. I love to eat diverse ethnic foods and moderately spicy wondering if I will be able to continue that?? Anyways thats a bit about me...
  8. I had my surgery yet but I appreciate and love your post. It's definitely something I'm going to have to work on
  9. Oh interesting about the pain pump in the stomach I guess it's a alternative way to manage pain post op. I would not want to have to pull that out!!!!!!
  10. Thread is called patient guidebook to those that didn't get one
  11. There is a thread on here called something like those who didn't get binders like to share and it has a hyperlink inside to s PDF file with loads of information including nutritional and recipes too you might find that very useful
  12. My friend had a pain pump catheter in her leg for her knee replacement and the doctor or nurse removed it latter when it was time. I had a PCA patient controlled anesthesia pain pump once for abdominal surgery and it was part of my IV. It was removed before I left the hospital I do not know if these answers help you much. I'm not sure why you would have a pain pump that goes home with you unless you have special circumstances. I am a chronic pain patient and they told me they didn't think o would need a PCA pump.
  13. I hope you are seeing a therapist....therapy can really help the root of depression and CBT cognitive behavioral therapy van work even better then meds or with meds have the best efficacy. My hope is that you won't have to stay on abilify or maybe try another one that doesn't cause weight gain because sometimes they don't cause that side effect. I was on abilify before and have been to many dark places you mentioned. I was misdiagnosed with depression for many years but recently found out I have bipolar l. Anyways, exercise helps the mood as well as weight loss so I encourage that but therapy number one and don't give up. Keep a weekly gratitude journal... sounds cheesy I know bit it helps to keep you appreciating life and open to positive possibility
  14. If it's like what o had its the diet class of the five day liquid pre op and what you eat after the stages it's not the same as all the other dietitian visits bc it's more specific to the surgery. Don't know if that's what your going to but that's what my final pre op class is
  15. I'm going to check this out if my phone let's me add anymore apps lol
  16. My office sent me a medic alert card saying what I got,nwhen...next month, and that I can't have any nsaids or cox 2 inhibitors and on t h e other side it asks food places if I can have half portions or choose from the children's menu it also has the Weight clinics number on it. It's a wallet card. I thought this was is quite handy and cool to use if necessary
  17. Hi, I'm 39 single, never married biracial black and Thai female with my BA in human development from UCSD university of California. San diego. I focused in sociology, psych and neuroscience. I've spent a lot of time volunteering at various places such as the local children's hospital and arthritis foundation. I've had multiple health issues all if my life including chronic pain since age 5. My weight started at around age 10. I'm facing spinal surgery and need to loose a lot of weight so after a year of deliberations, I finally decided to get the sleeve. I was originally going for roux en y however my surgeon felt medical history is to complex for it. I'm also a published poet and wish to write a book of poetry. I also paint and do some crafts.

  19. I think you just need protein powder is the main thing. I have food allergies and diabetic and they told me I could make my own popsicles and home made broth as long as it's not fattening lol
  20. I have the sleeve one for my tablet which is what led me to this site. I love the book and find its helping me prepare to be sleeved next month.
