    Exhausted....

I'm in the same boat...sort of. I'm 3 weeks post op and I've lost 30 lbs. I lost 25 within the first 2 weeks and only 5 this past week. I had tons of energy my second week after surgery (my first week i was in the hospital) and it's ironic because i was barely getting any fluids at that point at all!! I even ended up passing out from dehydration the day after being discharged. But the last week i have been extremely lethargic. The director at my weight loss clinic has been giving me b12 shots and another one as well...maybe a Vitamin D shot?? I'm not sure. But anyways, I'm struggling to get anywhere near my Protein goals and even my fluids aren't where they should be. I'm probably burning more calories in a day then I'm even able to consume. I'm scared because i know I'm probably losing muscle mass at this point and according to my dr, am showing signs of ketoacidosis. Despite losing 30 lbs, i don't really look like I've lost that much weight and i fear that the reason my weight loss has slowed down recently is because my body is trying to hold on to its stores for dear life because it's in starvation mode. I wish i could get the amount of protein i need...or even half of it!! My nutritionist even lowered my goals to give me a more attainable goal because 60g just seemed impossible. How do you do it?? I can't seem to tolerate anything with protein. Ther only fluids I'm getting are from popsicles and crystal light. I haven't even been able to get any Vitamins down. I walk about 30 minutes a day but i literally have to force myself to do it because I'm so tired i have a constant headache from exhaustion. I'm getting so little calories and nutrients that they are talking about feeding tubes in my near future if i can't start tolerating things. I'm at a loss. I don't mean to hijack your post i just figured I'd tell you that you're not alone with the tired feeling and remind you that you're not doing anything wrong. Sometimes it just takes a toll on your body when you put it thru such a drastic change. You could also be burning more calories than you're taking in, in which case you are causing your metabolism to slow down and therefore making yourself more tired. Talk to your wlc about this and see what they say. Any tips on how to get in your Proteins?? I'm desperate for any advice i can get at this point. I'm terrified of having to go back to the hospital. I have 2 kids that depend on me and i just can't afford to be back in there with a feeding tube! Any help would be much appreciated because although you have been tired, in retrospect, you're doing great. You should be proud. Not everyone is able to accomplish half of what you have so early out...Not even just with the weight loss but with the nutritional, fluids, and exercise requirements. Keep up the good work!! 2. Thanks so much for all the great info! I'll check out the recipes Can I ask how you measure 1 cup of miscellaneous food like meat and greens and so on? This is my entire challenge, I just don't know exactly how to gauge the meal sizes, though I know the technical amount I "should" be eating (1/2 cup) ... So, for example, let's say you have a 2 ounce piece of chicken, 2 tablespoons of low sodium salsa, a tablespoon of reduced fat cheddar cheese shredded, some leafy greens, and a low carb small tortilla... how do I determine what "cup" size this is? This is a typical dinner for me, and it's usually around 250 calories with 32 grams of Protein... I know this is a good meal for me, and some days I can't finish the whole thing and others I absolutely can with no problems... This is where the worry comes in, since it together looks a whole hell of a lot bigger than 1/2 a cup... the greens alone are 1/4 cup, so I just feel lost at determining whether I'm eating the right portion size or if there's a chance I don't have the restriction I should (eg: stretched pouch). Does that make sense? @Djmohr I'd love your opinion on this, since I always see your posts on here and you seem to be a wealth of bariatric knowledge! Thanks guys! I watched several informational videos on you tube made by a baraiatric surgeon and he says in his videos that the theory of stretching out your pouch is a myth. I'm not a Dr so I'm not sure if it's true but he claims that after the first 6-8 months after surgery, it's more about the quality of foods you eat then it is about the quantity. I can send you the video links if you're interested. I found them to be quite informational and his information definitely seemed to scientifically make sense. It definitely makes you think because i do believe alot of what we're told is misconstrued and miscommunicated. I think we have this idea that our pouch can just be stretched after eating a couple of meals that were too big for it, but it's definitely not that easy. He says in his videos that even looking at the stomach of people that gained almost all their weight back, their pouch size didnt change much in size at all...and by no means can our stomach go back to its original size...it would be almost impossible for that to happen. So, while i do understand your fears and can appreciate your concern with doing everything the right way, i wouldn't worry too much about exact measurements. As a matter of fact my weight loss clinic tells us that it's not even necessary to measure your food after awhile. You just need to focus more on listening to your body's full signal and put more attention on getting in good quality foods as opposed to empty calories that hold no nutritional value...as long as you're doing that...you'll be fine. Hope this helps. Sent from my LGMS550 using the BariatricPal App

Why I'll Never Say, 'You Look Great!'

Ive lost 25 lbs since surgery on 9/12 (SW 261 CW 236) and 44lbs since my highest weight(280)and not only have I not noticed a change, but it seems that no one else has either. Kinda wish someone would notice...even if it was just me!!! Sent from my LGMS550 using the BariatricPal App

    October Surgery Buddies

Yes!! They even bring it to you in the hospital like a day or 2 after surgery...or in my case 4 days after. So dont overdo it and make yourself sick of it now because you're going to want to have some options for post op!! Believe me! Im 2 weeks post op and am struggling to find anything I like or can tolerate =/ According to myfitnesspal Ive consumed 1,100 calories since surgery on 9/12 ???? Feeling anxious.

Same. I'm exactly a week post op and I'm not super interested in food either but I have to stop myself as opposed to my stomach signaling to me that I'm full...which I had always thought would be loud and clear. I had always thought the full feeling after gastric bypass was so obvious it practically slapped you in the face and I'm very sad to find that just hasn't been the case for me. =( Although, I too have lost weight (12 lbs) I relate that to only eating popsicles for the last week. I am SO afraid that once I'm able to eat solids, that weight loss is going to come to a stop and I'm going to be utterly screwed. I'm trying to remain positive though. Good luck with your journey! Too early to worry?

I'm in the same boat. I just had my surgery on 9/12 and I just tried out some fresh pineapple to help me get some fluids because I haven't been able to tolerate many and, thinking I'd get this overwhelming full feeling, never really stopped eating and almost finished the entire container (about 7 medium size pieces). That would make me full BEFORE the surgery but all I got now was an uncomfortable feeling in my chest...nothing close to a full feeling though. If that's what the full feeling is, I'm screwed!!!
